  • Jaycar has a small one for 4.95, not as good.

    • There's also one for $9.95 that has a higher safety class rating.

I don't own a multimeter nor do I know what they are used for but why would you not spend $3 more for one from the shops with proper certification?

I am genuinely curious as I'm planning to buy one after ordering and reading http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/103854 's comments with regards to the li-ion batteries the torch comes with.

  • +1

I bought the flashlight - can never have enough flashlights…

    • +2

I keep telling the wife this, but she does'nt believe me. I figure the only way to convince her is to buy more.

      • +2

Maybe you need to buy bigger flash lights ;)

      • Perhaps someone should set up a torch fetish support group. I'd sign up for sure.

        • +1

by torch fetish, do you mean fleshlight?

        • No I mean a normal torch. I've got stacks of them and I keep buying more.

  • Thanks, missed out last time. Got it. Chairs.

  • where do you put the code ?

    • +2

after you click "secure checkout", you still can use paypal after you input the code.

      • Thanks for that.

  • +2

I don't know how to use it but if it's on sale, I need it!

    • is there a good tutorial site for this kind of stuff? Like, "how do I fix my blender" and that kind of bollocks

      • +1

About 4 year tutorial as an apprentice electrician and then still probably cant use it properly.

To test batteries put on DC, red lead to + black lead to -.

  • the leads are thin and cheap

    • +4

There's nothing wrong with them as long as you don't mind a bit of 240v action when they start falling apart.

      • +4

Thats why there is 2 leads, one for each nipple :D

    • +3

The leads are fairly thin and fairly cheap. They will last reasonably well if you take care of the meter (based on experience). If you want better quality multimeter probes (that fits the meter - I have tried them) you can buy a set from TMart as well:
      http://www.tmart.com/New-Screwed-Multimeter-Probe-with-Cover…
      or ebay: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/300873041898?ssPageName=STRK:MEWN…

      • Thanks mate. I bought my MM about 15 years ago. Leads are exactly the same and they are crap, need to be fixed from time to time. Let's see how these will work.

  • I was waiting on a deal like this, thankyou.

  • Thanks, got one

  • I already have 4 digital multimeters. So can any one explain why I bought another?

    • +4

to make 5 of them :P

    • Because this one has a beeping continuity meter? I have 2 MMs but only 1 has beeping continuity. Tempted to grab this one so I have a spare for when my main MM is lost in the piles of ozbargained crap I have stockpiled in my house…

  • Still working… even though 620+ clicks. Guess we are a curious bunch.

  • I think this is a bargain but why do I needed a multimeter?

    • Car won't start? Diagnose whether it's the alternator or car battery. Saves you buying a new battery when something else is busted.

  • Thanks Op, got both the deals you recommended!

  • Much appreciated legend, ordered both of the hardware. Oh and Ohms law here I come.

  • A multimeter is one of the best tools you can have in your toolbox.
once you know how to use one you will be able to diagnose many electrical faults in vehicles, trailers etc.(probably best not measuring 240v etc if unfamiliar with operation because DEATH can easily occur)

I have several also and these "cheapies" are just great to leave in the car, shed, caravan etc

  • +1

    Bought one, thanks!

Comes to AU$7.30 when you select USD and use your 28 Degrees card etc.

  • +1

I gave away the previous model meter to my customers, as a freebie.
I have pretty much complete, realistic details on how to use the meter here:
    http://www.airborn.com.au/circuits/meter.html

Before anyone complains about the price listed on the website, please note that I ALSO tell you where you can buy it cheaper, my business is not about selling meters. Note this model pretty much equates to the "Aldi" meter and is unfortunately probably missing the continuity buzzer, which is a major feature in a meter. That said, it is a good meter - I personally use this model all the time.

  • So, what features does one look at when choosing a multimeter?

Sure, it seems cheap. But they even cheaper ones as well as slightly more expensive ones that might be worth the extra $.

    How to choose?

    and also

    How to use?

  • +4

I'm an electronics engineer so my advise is simply buy the cheapest unless you have some specific need e.g. to measure AC current.

As many will advise use extreme caution with mains voltage but for stuff around the car etc this will be fine.

The most useful thing is an audible continuity sensor which is great for checking out broken wires/fuses etc. It's easier just to listen than to look at the display then.

I've got a few models but honestly the cheapest (2 for $15 at DSE ages ago) cover 99% of my needs although sadly they don't have the audible sensor as above. Still, if I break them at that price who cares?

    • Still, if I break them at that price who cares?

      The environment & planet.

  • Thanks. Got one.

  • When I apply the coupon I get "sorry, this coupon is not available for you"

    Guess its expired?

    • Still working for me just got 1

    • I had the same problem - but I was doing it via their mobile site (via my mobile). Jumped onto a PC and the code worked on checking out. Unusual.

  • The website claims meter will auto turn off after 25 minutes. Still waiting for this to happen after a week.
Good meter though except the leads.

    • +1

Still waiting for this to happen after a week.

You should probably get some sleep…

      • Hahahaha,…well said :-)

  • If the deal ends, but you still want it, its $8.48us from here:
    http://www.buyincoins.com/new_en/details/digital-lcd-multime…

not as good as the original deal, but cheaper than the standard price.
I brought this model over a year ago. it works fine for everything apart from current readings over 1 amp. thats probably more to do with the leads though.

  • Jumped the second deal. Will be handy in the studio.

    Cheers!

  • Thanks Op , code is still working .

  • The code still works. Thanks OP. I actually do have an occasional need for one of these, and had so far missed on the previous discounted deals. I also bought the better quality multimeter probes listed above for USD 2.77

  • Bought. I purchased a 'cheap' ($15) multimeter at BigW that was totally worthless. Its display never settled down on a particular number, even when measuring something as challenging as a 12V battery. Hopefully this is better. Hey, at US$7.02 I'm willing to give it a go.

  • Heh, BankWest just called to confirm the transaction with TMart on my credit card. It looked suspicious to them.

  • -1

This coupon could only be used 300 times. - GAY!

    • I prefer the word 'disappointing'.

  • -1

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-AC-DC-LCD-Digital-Meter-Test-…

Almost half the price and seems better but doesn't have a backlight.

  • Expired. All used up! :(

  • Hi, dear ozbargianers. Thanks for your attention of the deal. Unfortunately, for the multimter is unexpectedly popular, there are too many orders both from ozbargainers and other Tmart mail subscribers. The multimeter is out of stock very soon. Some of the orders has been
shipped out in last two days, but some of the orders will be shipped at the rapidest speed on this Friday after we have restocked the multimeter.

So if you don't want to wait until Friday to ship your multimeter, you can mail [email protected] and we can refund you. We feel sorry for this.

  • …the orders will be shipped at the rapidest speed…

That's what i like to hear.

For future people following this thread: My meter arrived just over two weeks later in a padded bag. "Excel XL830L" is the model number. Best of all the continuity buzzer (which is a major feature in a small multimeter) DOES work in this model, this year.

    • Helpful highlight about "continuity buzzer", thanks for your further information.

      • Thank you dear friend.

  • Just received mine after almost a month. Works as advertised.
