Noticed these $98.00 AWA DAB / Internet / FM radios for the first time today in Big W Blacktown. Must be a new product line. Excellent value for a Frontier Silicon based Internet radio.

As with most of these I would say it would be preset Internet radio stations.
I have a Kogan Internet Radio which has the Frontier Silicon setup. You can 'add' custom stations manually to it but not 'all' playback formats are recognized. I have added several of my ISP supplied 'free' internet radio stations perfectly.
DSE's SKU C9886 (DAB+ / Internet / FM Radio, with iPod / iPhone dock [for pre-iPhone 5] was selling as late as last week for under $ 52.00
(The dock is just a "dust collector" for folks - like me - who don't have a [costly, DRM encumbered] compatible iPod or iPhone to plug into it. In fairness, others can play media from such Apple devices.)
It's also got a Music Player Mode (client to Windows Media Player), as well as an Aux In (but -no- earphone or line Out, for some reason).
Presumably, the C9886 had to go, eg, after the iPhone 5's introduction made it "obsolete for Apple users"
We see -three- design "faults" (IMO) in it:
no Line Out (or earphone jack, even) - hard to record from
Apple dock - can made it -prematurely- obsolete for Apple mob
no internal battery operation
OTOH there's a "subtle feature" in this box, ie, if you can wire-up a 12 V DC power car-adapter or a cable to a 12 V Seal Lead-Acid (SLA) battery, this radio can be run in a vehicle, outside (eg, camping or at a BBQ), etc. (AC Adapter is 12 V @ 3 Amp.)
Since its intro price was $ 199 (& it's later sold for $ 149.00 & even $ 99.00, before the recent price-drop to $ 51.75) - it's Excellent Value [at least for those who don't need an up-to-date Apple dock interface].
Some rural DSE stores had stock last week (as did 1 Adelaide suburb store), but we can't see nation-wide stock… any remaining stock won't last.
"1. no Line Out (or earphone jack, even) - hard to record from"
That's a deal breaker straight away!
Thanks for the tip re DSE. Last time I looked they were fairly expensive. We haven't got a decent sports station in Adelaide and have had to listen via my phone.
What model is this AWA radio?
The box seems to have IR706+ on it. The picture certainly looks different from the AWA WF900i that got good reviews and used to sell at Big W for $178.
Got one!
Anyone know if there is anything one has to do to get it to use the radio stations in IINET's Freezone?
Just curious, how does this unit handle internet audio streams can this play? Is it just a matter of plugging in the URL of the audio stream that you want the unit to play?
