So 1 month for half price and an ongoing fee for potentially full price?

Are you a rep by any chance?

    • I'm actually not sure! If I had to hazard a guess, it would probably be for one year! I'll call up to confirm!

Not a rep, just like supporting developers who price their work sensibly.

      • Just called, sales rep advised that it will last for a year. :)

Just watch in the terms and conditions it is 12 months paid every month (on sign up date) + tax (if applicable).

It is AUTO renewed and the onus is on you to cancel when it goes to $24.99.

As far as I'm aware it is full versions with something like Office 365 (a special launcher) which asks every 90 days for you to relogin and the program calls home. Currently looking at it for the sister.

Nice post OP! A good price considering how much boxed versions have cost previously.

On a down-note, Ive used Adobe CS from the first version. After a number of (in my words) "screw the customer" tactics by Adobe, I refuse to buy their software anymore. My last purchase (CS 5.5) left me gobsmacked. InDesign 5.5 files could not be opened natively with InDesign 5.0. This was the final straw for me. As an alternative, I've started moving over to open-source software. Namely Scribus (InDesign alternative) and InkScape (Illustrator alternative).

If you have any gripes with them or their software, I suggest you voice them here.

Isn't it normal for older software to not be able to open files created by newer versions of the software? Things like compatibility mode for PS is not the norm.

You do have a point, but we are talking 'half' a version here.
        5.0 to 5.5

    • Thanks for the tip about Scribus - I was just thinking about needing an alternative to InDesign. How do you find it? And did you check out any other free alternatives?

Oh, and I know a tired meme, but this was pretty well done to add to ca6leguy's video:

"Published on Feb 15, 2013 - In a press conference in Sydney today, Adobe chief executive Shantanu Narayen refused to answer questions about how the company can justify charging Australians up to $1,400 more for its traditional software than US residents, instead pushing his view that Adobe's Creative Cloud software, which is broadly harmonised with US pricing, is the future for customers."

This whole Creative Cloud subscription model is just soooo bloody broken.

    • It's quite well-suited to businesses who always upgrade to the latest version.
Home and non-business users, not so much.

Just called them up and they changed my $24.95 subscription to the new price. Mind you, I had 4 days left of my first year's subscription. (I'm a multimedia teacher, so subscription is totally worth it for me. Plus, no depreciation tables at tax time.)

    • Did you have to hassle them? What did you say etc? Thanks.

      • Nah, just say you have an existing account and want to take advantage of the new promo.

  • Do they need Proof that you are a teacher/student?

    • Yes; you need to upload scanned proof, in the form of a student card, etc.

    • I just popped in my uni email and presto! I don't remember scanning my student card.

A nice intro to the new features of Adobe CC

The disadvantage here is when or if the subscription runs out (and you don't renew), you lose access to your files, at least as far as official Adobe apps go.

No soup for you - unless you have an older version already (and even then compatibility might be an issue)

    • I don't think it's mandatory to save it in the cloud, I have mine saved locally.

      • +2

You're right, but I think he means you lose access in the sense that you no longer have access to the software to open the files.

i.e. you still have your PSD files, you just "lose access" to the images in them because you don't have photoshop anymore once the subscription runs out. Previously you could still run the copy of Photoshop that you bought 6 years ago to open the images you created 6 years ago.

        • Ah right! Yeah I can see that being an issue!

        • thanks eug, that's exactly what I mean.
