  • With solar, the size (of the panel) is everything.
This would need to be about 10x bigger to have any appreciable effect.
    See this testimonial:
"plugs in to my phone but does absolutely sweet F.A."

I would class this as comedy-nonsense.

I have my suspicions about the effectiveness of these small devices. Something that really works currently needs more surface area, e.g.:

    http://mashable.com/2013/04/03/solar-charger-2/

Also what is the point if you have access to mains power or a running car? You'd generate more pollution manufacturing and shipping this gadget than you reduce in mains or car power. Maybe if you were going camping.

  • Surely this is too small to charge in 2 hours? Charge what is the question, a keychain light?

The REP is a bit short on detail about this product…..and with good reason.

Here's the specs from the wholesaler's website:

"Contains a 1400mAh rechargeable lithium battery which is said to take around 13 hours of direct sunlight to reach full charge"

So in short, it will take 13 hours at least to capture 1400mah of energy (the same capacity of an iphone 4/5).

So after 3-4 days of direct winter sun, with your phone switched off whilst charging, you'll be good to go with a full charge!

      Wow.

Yep, way to save the environment by mass producing more garbage and claiming its green.

Good for the arctic/antarctic summer where a day last 6 months !!!

    • Have to agree with you there, "Recharge time: approx. 2 hours"
No way this is possible with solar only, The specs say you can charge the battery via USB, So the 2 hours refer to the time it takes the battery to charge the phone, Not the solar panel alone

Might be ok if you leave the solar panel on the dash of your car for a few days but with only a 1400mAh battery it would take a day to charge but would only fill your phone up around halfish.

Not entirely forthcoming with details from the Rep.

      • Perhaps they meant time for the battery to charge the phone?

    • So, you can have this thing just sitting around catching sunlight 12±6 hours per day, keeping to itself… until one day your phone is running flat and you think "crap, if only I'd remembered to charge my booster-battery-recharger thingy."

Then you think "Ah ha, lucky for me, I have a booster-battery-recharger-thingy that automatically recharges itself!"

You can plug in, slurp 1400 mAh out of it, and continue playing Angry Birds for another few hours, and just leave the empty charger thing in the sun for another week to replenish itself.

The only problem with this ingeneous plan is the need to have a solar charger battery boost thing sitting in the sun right where you're going to need it. Which is going to happen approximately 0% of the time you need to boost your phone battery in the field.

I guess you could leave it sitting on the parcel shelf of your car (rather than plugging in to a 12V outlet… go figure). Or on a parcel rack on your push bike (and carry those extra grams around with you everywhere you ride). Or on the windowsill of your office, where you could just plug it into a wall.

Yep, it's a pointless waste of silicon and lithium. I'll pass on the opportunity to save money by buying this one, thanks.

  • miniscule panel is useless

  • Cheap on ebay with free shippnig :) and has a better picture.
