D-Link DIR-865L Cloud Gigabit Router $129 at DickSmith

2911

User edit 0740 9/5/13: Price adjusted. Now $129 ($29 after cashback).

Edit 1100 10/5/13: Cashback exclusion list now includes DSE. Purchase at your own risk.

Edit: Here is the reply from D-Link via email: "This new Ts and Cs only applicable for any purchases from 10/5 onward".

Edit: Here is a clearer cut-off point, straight from their again-updated terms and conditions: "Limit 1 per person per household only. Excludes Officeworks, Dick Smith, E-Bay & Unauthorised E-Tailers, applicable to all other retailers and channel and cannot coincide with any other offers. DIR-865L purchases from Dick Smith after 10/5/2013 10am AEST will not be eligible for this offer (previous purchases before 10/5/2013 10am AEST will be honoured)."

So that is it. The deal technically expire now since they no longer offer cashback for purchase from dicksmith. HOWEVER, REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN ALWAYS PRICEMATCH AT JBHIFI OR HARVEY NORMAN, IF YOU CAN FIND STOCK AT DICKSMITH

Basically, the same deal at Dicksmith at http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/101972 but D-Link just have their new cashback promotion where they give $100 Cashback to purchases at ANY AUSTRALIAN STORES (except Officeworks).
I have checked dicksmith stock around Melbourne and plenty have stock.

  • "I have checked dicksmith stock around Melbourne and plenty have stock."
??? The DSE site says there is nothing anywhere, a couple with "low stock"

    • +4

There probably was plenty of stock 51 minutes ago when the deal was posted.

  • +1

Found one in Traralgon Vic. Passing through there later today.

  • Seems there is no stock in the whole of WA…

    • still stock but its marked as low

  • +4

Paywave with ING for further 5% cashback? making the profit to be $19.73!

    • Didn't have paywave functionality in my store :(

      • they didnt have it at mine either. :(

    • +2

The DSEs in Perth CBD do not have Pay Wave….

We are lucky they are open on Saturdays in WA.

      • +2

        :-)
WA opening hours remind me of 20 years ago…

      • No DSE's have NFC terminals.

  • My local DSE still had a ticket price of $169. But still scanned at $84.50
Thanks OP. A day off work and I've just earned $15.50

  • +1

Just got an sms saying my reservation is ready to be picked up. Going as fast as I can just in case they try to give me some lame excuse.

  • +1

When I ordered mine to be collected at Narellan NSW most shop around here had them "In Stock". Now 10 min later most are "Low Stock". Ozbargained??

  • +1

anyone can pricematch with jbhf? city sydney

    • Don't think so. They check the store stock before matching the price

      • +1

Just price match at JB, I told them what the DSE lady told me. She said they don't have anymore all reserved but they have stock at another 2 stores nearby.

So I told JB I don't want to go that far and they matched no problem.

The one from JB with newer packaging so I think is new model or may be newer hardware.

        • You'd better upload a receipt then. Haha good job.

        • JB Price Match Reciept…http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/51706/16227/2013-05-08_12.35.31.jpg

        • I saw the new box at JB too, it is mainly a white background whereas the two I have are a black background. I checked the serial numbers and they showed hardware version A1 and firmware 1.01 so they are exactly the same, just different packaging. I also quizzed the salesman about having a busy day price matching DSE, he showed me a message from head office saying it was an error on the DSE site and they would not match it. I told him the "mistake" has been running for a week, and DSE have been happily selling stock at $84.50, so it was not a mistake.

    • -1

Yes, I pricematched with JB, though it was in Woden ACT

  • Is DD-WRT Possible?

  • hmm showing stock at my local DSE but dont know if i "need" a router

    • lul

    • +9

@crowmanz. they are paying you to buy it. you dont have to think.

    • +1

i think the bigger question is do you need $15 lol

    • +2

You don't need the router but you need the $15.

  • +2

    out of stock everywhere..:(

  • +1

Call one store, they had one left but they couldn't reserve it as they 'can't reserve clearance items', tells me that the Brookside (QLD) store has 3 left so if it gets taken I should be able to get one from there. Call up the Brookside store to confirm, they tell me they've all been reserved :(

    • +6

      don't touch my router :-)

      • +1

ohhhhhh it's on like donkey kong

      • Pricematched one at JB Adelaide St anyway woohoo! :D
From other people's experiences on here with reserving at DSE, it seems it's only really 'your' router when you've paid for it and actually got in in your hands, good luck!

    • one of those is mine too :)
They said that one of the others is second hand.

  • got one! thanks OP!

  • Missed out also, had one unit on hold for somebody. Will call tomorrow to see if they picked it up

  • No stock around- will anyone price match?? Obv officeworks will- but they're exempt from the promo…

  • I got one on click and collect. Got an email saying it's ready for collection.. So, that's mine reserved right? The shop is now showing no stock left…

    • Supposedly. I've learned not to get my hopes up too high with DSE deals until the item is in my hands.

      • Damn.. i'll give em a call to make sure it's secure then!!

    • +1

Got my confirmation just now too…work getting in the way of me picking it up…argghhhh

    • Yes it is. I did this a few times and everytime when collecting, the guy/gal went to the back and bring the item with a printed sticker on. So you got one definitely unless you are not showing up within 24 hours.

  • Who can refuse a high end router with profit? Great find OP, thanks a lot!

  • +1

Any alternatives people? let's start thinking outside the box

  • Just got the last one from chirnside
Thanks OP! Saw another guy in there get one too.

    • Told the cashier about the offer when I was in at chirnside, he seemed tempted to hide that last one away!

  • -3

Well I got one in Melb
    2 X in Qld

    whooooo!

  • thanks OP I got one at kotara nsw. Have had a D-link cashback before with no trouble even though I used an online shop's ebay store instead of their website, wouldn't recommend this though as I did it by accident.

  • Price matched at JB. They refused stating it was too low, but I kindly reminded them that has never occurred before in all the times I'd shopped there…which is a lot. Manager was nice enough to do it for me.

    Thanks OP.

I sense a WDTV type delaying move on D-Links part though….time will tell if they handle it better than Western Digital did.

    • lucky u… didn't success for me

    • Can you please post the receipt ? That will be good

  • How good would this be with a External Hard Drive connected to it via usb?

    • Most high end routers still struggle with transfer speeds, but besides that work fine.

"when it came to 802.11n over 5GHz the D-Link DIR-865L's performance was again strong coming in at consistent peaks of 20MBps (160Mbit), 14MBps (112Mbit) and 12MBps (96Mbit) which sees it only slightly behind the Linksys EA6500 at two metres and 10 metres. That said at 12 metres with two solid walls in between it actually set a new high beating the 10.4MBps of Linksys' product. This also places it well ahead of the 802.11n 5GHz speeds we have seen from Netgear's R6300 and the now lagging Buffalo AirStation 1750.

The problem is 802.11n performance over 2.4GHz is weak. Peaks of just 7MBps (56Mbit), 3MBps 24Mbit) and 0.9MBps (7.2Mbit) (below) were the best we achieved at our three distances and all fluctuated greatly which would certainly affect HD video streaming. Furthermore this not only falls well short of the 8.1MBps, 5MBps and 3.9MBps achieved by the EA6500, but also behind the best performing 802.11n 2.4GHz dedicated routers like D-Link's own D DIR-645 which is a fraction of the cost."

      • I would be using it with a Ethernet Cable not wireless

  • All out, CRAP.

  • Woo! Just got confirmation from my store via a phone call! :)

    • Yeah I got a phone call the other day when I got the 99c RAM. I could only order one but they rang to confirm and asked if I wanted all their stock!!

  • Anyone here did a click and collect in Adelaide cbd? Just curious whether anyone got a confirmation yet.

  • +2

Just went to Perth City store.
None left on the shelf however there were at least 10 in the cupboard with receipts attached ready for people to pick them up. Even if you haven't received the e-mail saying to pick it up, your order may be ready.

  • found stock at Bribie Island, QLD

    • and Dalby, QLD

  • Argh!!!missed out because my manager was with me at the desk and I couldn't go online :(

  • +1

I so want one but my house is already cluttered with deprecated g & n routers…

      • +6

"found out about this yesterday, was going to post deal today but seems I've been beaten to the punch" - would have done fine.

        • -3

What exactly is wrong with sharing the fact that me and my friends and family were successful in finding stock of this item yesterday and this morning? I can't see why I'm getting negged to oblivion for an innocent statement — makes me feel I've committed some serious breach of OzBargain etiquette. :(((

        • +4

Dont worry mate, if you are serious about just using them for friends and family I would say its just jealous people who have missed out :)

        • +3

All of us are happy to upgrade to 802.11ac with this deal — none of us are reselling them. Anyway, neg away — seems people are happy to make themselves feel good about themselves by making me feel like crap. :(

        • +2

It just sounded like you were gloating that you got 6 where many others may have missed out.

        • +1

I personally got 1; the others were bought by family and friends.

  • +1

Is ths worth the bother if I already have a linksys e3000?

    • +4

The question should be.. should you bother to get the $15.50? Who cares about the router? Haha :D

      • +6

The $15 is not a motivation, amusing to watch the stock drop so quickly from availabe to not/low in the newcastle area. Local ozb/tight asses mobilised with scary efficiency.

        • Looks to suck a bit on he n protocol so may give it a miss.

        • And it was approx 10 on a Wednesday Morning… Do any of us even have jobs? Lol

P.S $15 was definitely my motivation! free money wooooo :D

        • +1

A little too time poor for that to be worth it, I've an out and about type job so nicking in here and there is easy to do. Farting about doing a rebate and especially configuring a new router for minimal speed returns is more the issue for me.

  • There is no guarantee of getting the item even if its reserved as Dick Smith staff have priority access to the stock.

  • Is this what everyone else's receipt looks like? http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/39370/16225/image.jpg

    • Mine doesn't have the "+1yr Wty" thing. Just the D-Link router for $84.50, along with my Click and Collect details.

      • Mine was click and collect too. Why would it be different?

        • Does yours say "Click and Collect" anywhere on the receipt? In any case, shouldn't make any difference in claiming cash back since both receipts are valid. :)

        • No, when I placed my click and collect order there were 2 in my basket and it wouldn't let me change it to 1. So I rang the store and told them I only wanted the one. So when I got to the store they scanned the product just like it was a normal sale. That might have been the difference but final price was only. $84.00.

    • +2

      You'll get a $38 profit!

  • Picked one up at Browns Plains, QLD. Online said they didn't have stock but they did in store…

  • +2

"cannot coincide with any other offers"
    how about staff discount?

  • Wow you actually get paid to buy this router.

  • There are bargains, there are freebies, and now there's a new category - PROFIT. Well done!!

  • If anyone really needs a router (and not just after $15), MSY has this at $111, so you can get a router for $11.

    • it is $211 in MSY

    • MSY says theirs is $111 AFTER you claim your $100 cash back

    • probably grey import haha

    • It is $211, and only comes down to $111 AFTER the cashback

    • ignore… didn't read above.

  • Dicksmith chadstone does not have any left, don't waste your time calling them.

    • Nor Springvale, Karingal, Mentone, and about 10 other stores :S

      • I've called pretty much call all the stores with LOW STOCK and none left :(

    • +1

I have called them in the morning at 9:04 and they said they have plenty in stock. However, when I posted the deal at 10:30am and come there at 11:30am, all gone (booked by someone else as the staff told me). What a power from ozbargain!!!
