There is plenty of stock around Brisbane (4000).

Just ordered them. Wanted some cheap 2.1s and found these. Reviews are ok:

Saw them at Burwood, NSW DSE today
Plenty of stock around Melbourne.
Anyone used these before? Are they alright? (I got plenty of stock near me, so yeah…might pick one up).
I prefer Creative speakers above Logitech… peronal choice.
"It ticks the boxes for a budget 5.1 speaker set, but small design issues and inferior sound quality can’t match Logitech’s excellent Z506 set."
looks good, how would you normally hook this up to a laptop?
Speaker port. Think it simulates true 5.1 but I could be wrong.
Didn't think it would be that simple, well I've ordered a set anyway, sea air keeps rusting mine, get through a set every year. Thanks
where do u live? u r casted away?
Do they deliver to boats?
First copper does not rust, second most of the functional part of a speaker is paper
copper does rust…
Copper doesn't rust but it does oxidise and go green…
lol no, just next to the sea, salt seems to corrode/rust the parts in all the electricals after a while.
You must be the guy I bought my car off.
three 3.5mm jacks … It's rare for a laptop to be able to do this without some sort of USB or expresscard soundcard which actually has the connections.
It has 3 audio cable, 1 audio cable for the sub, 1 for the 2 rear speakers and another 1 for 2 front speakers. But every device at my place has one audio output. Anyone know if i buy it how will i get true 5.1 sound from it?
Everything plugs into the sub and one cable goes to the PC I am pretty sure.
Seem its made for computers sound card, 3 cables goes in the pc.
Maybe there is some kind of adaptor about to convert the 3 to 1 to allow me to use it with a laptop?
yes there is an adapter
looks like this
http://www.qualitycableandwire.com/logitech-51-game-console-…
not sure if it comes with one but some logitech speakers do.
not sure if you can get one cheaply elsewhere.
@gooddealmate: If you really want to use a 5.1 system with your laptop, I'd suggest getting a USB sound card or something so you can properly output 6 channels. If you aren't going to do that then just get a quality 2.0 or 2.1 speaker system instead, 5.1 speakers aren't worth the hassle unless you have them setup properly.
That only mooshes all the channels together. It wont be independent surround sound.
well if your laptop isnt 5.1 then there is no way for you to get 5.1 anyways.
but yes - this solution is only for getting sound out of all channels not true 5.1 sound.
true 5.1 depends on source (disc) + device (pc) + speakers. - you need all 3.
Maybe look at a belkin rockstar, pretty easy to get a hold of.
So which one will be better for true 5.1 sound?
the Logitech Game Console Adapter
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LOGITECH-GAME-CONSOLE-ADAPTER-FOR…
or something like this? External Audio Sound Card
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-6-Channel-5-1-External-Audio-…
The Logitech one only has 2 channels going in so I can't see how it could output proper surround sound even in theory; it would presumably output stereo sound using the extra speakers only for volume. The second seems to support all the required inputs, but I don't know about the quality. I'd take my chances with the second as otherwise you may as well just get stereo speakers.
Saw a couple of sets of these this afternoon in the window at the Golden Grove store.
Heaps of stock on the Central Coast NSW, in fact every store in the 2250 postcode search shows stock. That's a FIRST for DSE in my experience.
can it be used for TV?
yes anyone want to confirm this ?
thanks - back to DSE for the plug
I've had these for a couple of years and have to say for the price its very good value. Good all round performer. If you want to get the best out of it you might need to adjust the equalizer.
i had a set of creative x510(dont remember the exact model no.) a few years ago. setting up the rear speakers is always nearlly impossible to me. how do u guys handle these rear speakers?
do you mean software setup or physically setting it up lol?
physical set-up
if your room is too big - yes it can be hard to setup - u probably need longer cables so you can run it under the carpet or something
or if you have nowhere to put it you can try those sticky wall hooks. hang it around 4/7 o'clock on the wall.
ahh i am actually in the market for a cheap decent speaker setup but with optical input aswell had a look at logitech and edifer ones. but wanted to find a cheaper one.. any one know of a decent one?
cheapest way to get 5.1 speakers with optical input is probably something like this
http://dicksmith.com.au/product/AE3646/philips-5-1-channel-d…
a little bit clumsy because it has a built in dvd player but pc speakers with optical inputs are usually $200+
Thanks heaps!
Awesome has stock in Melbourne!
Seems like a good price- but i'll give them a miss- seems like a tiny sub, and all round looks pretty tinny!
Are these wireless? Like can I place them around the room without doing a bunch of wiring work? If so that would be amazing but I can't seem to figure it out.
seriously? wireless speakers for $35…………………
what do you think?
Well sorry for asking a question, I just don't understand how people are able to organise their cables so well :(
theres no such thing as an organised cable they are managed at best.
Do you guys with 5.1 setups have all 5 speakers in front of you including the rear ones, or do you have the rear ones behind you? Do you put the middle speaker directly behind your screen?
I've never been able to solve this problem, which is why I've always stuck to 2.1.
i cant either, so i only use 3.1 (the rear speakers are in the drawer all the time)
shame it doesn't have an aux input or headphone output on the wired remote
Yeah, no headphone socket on the remote is the only reason I am not buying.
Haha amazing they have stock at my local store. I don't want though. :p
Thanks! My old 5.1 speakers have just a single speaker still outputting right, this is a great replacement for an excellent price.
That's more 1.0 than 5.1
hence the replacement :)
They Have been at this price since early march… I bought it around 10th March..
Every time I try and checkout the page returns an error saying it's too busy and that I need to start over…
I also noticed dse selling creatives 2.1 (but pretends to be 5.1) ziisound T6 speakers for $225 (normal retail was $500!). These are also wireless (bluetooth apt-x, which is actually pretty decent).
I own a few creative speakers that carry apt-x, its ok, as long as bodies don't get in the way between receiver and transmitter (bluetooth doesn't pass through water very well).
I bought these last week, while getting a Ixus 500hs. Using it on my daughters T.V.
Has no aux input, and the only way I could connect is via the black 3.5 from speakers into H/phone out on T.V set. It has given us 2.1, and left me with 3 unused speakers. Sound is better than the speakers built in to her set.
Inline volume control is handy, sub also has independent bass control. All up for $35, I not complaining, but agree that with the 3 x 3.5mm cables attached they are designed for pc….
As voter1 pointed out above - http://www.qualitycableandwire.com/logitech-51-game-console-… looks interesting, cheers.
you might get away with 2 of these
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-Way-Stereo-headphone-splitter-a…
if you want to be cheap
and just join them all together but I have no idea if the quality will be bad because its designed as a splitter not joiner.
but for $2 cant complain as you can still use it to share music between 2 kids on 1 ipod or something.
That's what the young guy @ DSE said he did… and it worked..
Will this work with this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/221209177438?ssPageName=STRK:MEWN… ?
You want something more like the below.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-6-Channel-5-1-External-Audio-…
I bought this item and now it's not compatible with Windows 7.. any recommendations on how to solve this.
How can a speaker set not be compatible with Windows 7? Sorry confused.
You will only get 2.1 sound out of a laptop unless you have a 5.1 output.
Then blue device isn't compatible with Windows 7 and only delivers stereo
Do you have a laptop? Has it got one headphone out? If so that is only 2.1 (stereo) sound.
It is nothing to do with Windows 7 it is the laptop.
You need THREE audio outputs to get 5.1 sound. 1 for the fronts, 1 for the rears and one for the centre.
I'm using the device Argon suggested its an USB soundcard.
Sorry thought you meant the speakers…. silly me.
EBay item says it is compatible so maybe contact the seller.
I'm using it too and make sure you install the driver that came with it, not from Windows update
I'm using the software provided on the disk, is it by any chance possible for you to upload the files for me? I would really appreciate it.
All I get is stereo
DSE you've done it again. Click and collect without stock!!!!
Now I have to find it elsewhere in Brisbane.
literally just got back home from buying this 2.1 speaker set from aldi!! do you reckon I should return it and go for these creative speakers instead?
yeah aldi has a good return policy
Anyone seen the TV adapter for a decent price able to be shipped to an Australian address?
Went to Dick Smith at North Lakes, Brisbane QLD about an hour ago. At first all I could see was a 2.1ch Speaker system for nearly the same price.
I wandered around and was unable to find it.
Showed the staff the item on my phone and she retrieved one from the back room that had been returned.
Then found another one hidden in the wrong part of the shelves that had been opened, but not taken out of the store. I bought that one.
Potentially 1 left.
Bought a set at Dick Smith's Morley in Western Australia; I think it was the only box they had there. Certainly the only box out front anyway.
Edit - Just for an update, quality is alright, certainly good enough for $35. Previously I was using either my headphones or Logitech Z305's. Z305's produce impressive sound for the size but I'm enjoying having a subwoofer again. Such a sad day when my Logitech Z5500's died :(
O_O how long before z5500 died….that sets damn expensive O_O
Just bought a set as have put up with 2.1 in living room for too long! Great deal
clicked on friday.. collected today @ carlingford.. yey!
Give us a report? What are you plugging them into? I will have to use mine as 2.1 for now.
one of my older laptops which fortunately has 5.1 analogue out (via 3x 1/8" jacks) :)
i don't really care about the sound quality tbh cos i have z5500's already for my current laptop
Just picked up the last one at northlands :D
There is one out at Toombul as I didn't pick mine up tonight. Went with a bargain Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 for $29.83 instead!
Bargain!

not sure how many are available in the local area but looks like they have now dropped the price to $23.50 for anyone that can find is in a store.
The best, fair few left where I am.
Nice find. Seems like a few stores have them in stock around my area. How are the speakers though?
