Telstra's discounting a few Pre-Paid Android handsets by $20 as part of a Student Offer but going through the checkout it looks like anyone is eligible with the link.
The handsets are:
Samsung Galaxy Y - Now $69
HTC Desire C - Now $129
Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus - Now $169
Looks like it expires on May 5th.
is it better than the huawei offerings that are even cheaper at times?
Just because the Galaxy Y is made by Samsung doesn't mean it's better than Huawei.
The Huawei Y201 can be considered better than the Galaxy Y if you're looking at specifications and software (ICS vs Gingerbread), since it's also newer it uses a more power efficient CPU and chipset as well.
If you're looking for a cheap (less than $50) Android phone then grab the Y201 from Coles (it's the fastest device you can get for that price) and then unlock it by purchasing a code from Bagman ($5).
A little higher up and you should consider probably a Huawei G300+ ($99) which comes with a faster CPU and larger screen, and 480 x 800 resolution.
TBH, none of these devices offered by Telstra are good deals by any stretch — they're all fairly low resolution.

For anyone looking for a budget Android phone, go for Huawei G300 for $99 from dicksmith, unlock cost about $7 from eBay.
Resolution is 800x480, 1GHz CPU, 512MB RAM, and microSD card slot.
whats the best phone for a cheap android 'plays everything' music device. I don't want apple so can't go that route, and it obviously need a micro SD card or massive internal memory to make it effective as music player.
i look at this and think maybe the galaxy y? is it better than the huawei offerings that are even cheaper at times?
