$799 Pioneer TODOROKI522 5.1 Home Theater Package from JBHIFI + 3 Year Warranty

46

First post here, be gentle to me ;)

Been looking for an upgrade for my old logitech 5500 5.1 speakers, and was gonna get the yamaha 489AU (RIO has it for 749 - so i was gonna price-match it in JB), and I went into the store yesterday only to find that they had this massive todoroki 5.1 at 25% off!

They asked $99 for 2 yrs extra warranty, I was like 'wife says 800 is the budget' so the guy gave me $799 for the whole package with 3 years warranty in total.

Sound is very clear, I compared with yamaha 698AU and decided on this one (although that guys was trying to sell me that one cos it's 1189 I think).

Very happy now! Can't wait to go home and set it up!

Warning: massive boxes, you'll need at least an SUV, and you need to put down the back seats…

  • oh and don't let them talk u into buying their bloated HDMI cables. just get some from msy or somewhere, HDMI is all digital, means if it's connected its good… just like USB

    • +1

Yes and no. I have tried lots of HDMI cables. Some issues I have had:

      • only works one way, reverse the ends and it no longer works
      • no sound, picture is fine, this also caused issues with the amplifier in that it would 'lock up' and need to be hard power cycled. This cable was a particularly loose fit.
      • pins bent
      • communication between the TV/projector and Bluray player was not able to occur. This meant that the auto detection of video output did not occur.

HDMI is all digital, means if it's connected its good

Digital means it's either on or it's off, so if you have a problem you will know it, like the absence of sound. Analogue is a variable, so you can have a varied level of problem, like the sound volume is reduced. I think what you said is true-ish.

I have had many issues with computer cases and front USB ports, often they will connect enough so that the USB stick will light up, but not connect enough that it can actually work reliably, often appearing as a 'device unrecognised'

But I agree, if you are paying over $10 for a HDMIcable (local prices) then it's to much.

Oh and I nearly forgot :)

You can buy a lot of $5 HDMI cables which don't work before you cover the cost of an expensive one. I've never had issues with cheap HDMI cables.

Nice of you to get her that iron too

    • lol it's in the garage so sorry about the mess :D

  • JB's price is $746 so you got the 2 years extra warranty for $53? Wouldn't the implied warranty cover 3 years at least anyway?

    • they only give u 1 year, i argued that our government said it's gotta be 2 year at least but they said otherwise…

  • JB site lists that pack as $746… And Pioneer receivers come with 3 year manufacturer warranty already which also includes the speakers with them when in Pioneer made packs.

    • where did you get the 3 year warranty information from?

      • Direct from Pioneer. Their receivers have had 3 year warranties for well over 10 years and I asked about speakers included in official Pioneer receiver packages and they have the 3 year warranty too.

        • shit, does that mean i should be getting 5 years warranty in total? I'm gonna ask them tomorrow, this is no good.

        • If you paid for 2 year additional warranty from an external warranty company, then yes. You should confirm it though.

  • If it's this system, it was on special for $522.90 late last year. I know because I paid ~$750 for it about a month before hand (and my mate for it for the low price). Its normal sticker price is $999.

It was during one of their 30% off all Pioneer specials. Good system though.

Correct, and was also posted on ozbargain too http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/82374. Achieved six votes, 4 votes so far for this and the price is $220 more. Scratching my head.

      • That's actually a different (and much worse) system.

        • Did you read the body of that posted deal?

TODOROKI522 950W 5.1 Channel Home Theatre System is also very good price at $554.40 delivered…

        • yeah that's quite different, they have another 522 system with small speakers, this one came with massive floor standing speakers and much larger woofer.

        • shit you are right, should i go for a refund?

        • I know that when offers like 30% off Pioneer (or Yamaha or whatever) are on, it's because the manufacturer is sucking up the cost, rather than the retailer, so getting it again at that price relies on Pioneer being prepared to run that sale again.

I was a bit upset that it was going for so much cheaper right after I bought it, but I'm happy with the system. You could take it back, but I guarantee they won't price match it for you today, so you'd be gambling on them running that price again (or waiting until it's an EOL product).

  • That is an awful price. This regularly goes for $710 at the good guys as online price, which the stores will happily do. It can be had for alot cheaper and there are slight variations to it where the sub is different for closer to $600.

  • If you have a look here http://mildsurprise.com/item.php?item=dcaf904e1fffc294cc02b2… you can see they put it on sale nearly every couple of weeks. It has an inflated RRP. Better off paying $100 more for the Yamaha package, that amp has HDMI passthrough, this one doesn't.

    • actually it does have passthru, the manual says it has it, I will test it tonight.

Reason for not yamaha cos I had a listen to the sound, was quite muddy.

      • I think its a great system, my mate has it, I like it. You got it cheaper than RRP, you've done well. I just wouldn't call it a bargain. He got it for $747 few weeks back, which is not a lot different to your price anyway.

This system is awful. Don't buy it.

  • bought this system for $522 during a JB sale…

    pretty happy with the sound

    • lucky you! damn how come i missed it…

  • Poor guy just found out he got ripped off, I bet from now one he won't buy anything until he visits OB 1st lol

Edit: I'm going to NEG because this is even worse than "NO Price Matching deals." because the sales man gave him an a discount which can't reliably be had by anyone else (not that we would want to anyway)

BTW… you don't need a huge car.. I got this home in a Mitsubishi Colt

    • I got mine home in a Hyundai i45 sedan.

    • Mega… are you WAQ?

    • Close the GAP on Medicare?

  • Agree with everybody above. This isn't a good deal at all. Its much better to buy when JB have there regular 30% off sales. I personally just wait for one. Always pays to shop around OB before buying. The OP just purchased this at there every day regular price.
