  • Bing Lee (NSW/ACT) are doing these for $599 (if you can find stock).

Unfortunately they are mediocre, picture quality is average and some slight reliability issues. NEC are also leaving the Australian market, and while it doesn't particularly make a big impact, it's still nice to know you have some form of local support.

I hate to rubbish other peoples bargains but this TV is definitely not my favourite. Would prefer a TCL or Palsonic with 3 year warranties as opposed to this.

EDIT: And RRP is NOT $999, no where near it. Currently $699. When it launched it was $799 RRP and in order to clear stock they dropped it to $699.

  • not a great deal and average product.

  • FYI - only NEC 'retail' is leaving the Australian market, which is a small part of their overall Australian company wihich includes Hospitality, Education, Security & Healthcare divisions. That's why they can still warrant product.

RRP is taken from what the "Manufacturer" sets and is displayed as $999 - see NEC website http://www.nec.com.au/5CDDDB40F13D4592ADA52359A6D25124.htm.

Bing Lee has it at $899 (negotiable) see link http://www.binglee.com.au/Product.aspx?id=3693- good luck with getting $300+ off (without using this deal for leverage…for parity sake) or stock

I personally have one, and wouldn't even think of comparing it to those other brands…but alas, rubbish away!!

    • I see where the confusion has risen from. The stock image you have used is of the 'ONYX' series, an older model. My mistake. But this does not help the situation as the image quality on the new unit is substantially worse than the HDDV3. In fact, the HDTV stream looks more like analogue. There is no detail in the blacks, really, it pales in comparison to the Palsonic TFTV55xxx offerings.

And regarding the RRP, manufacturers are known to have outdated RRPs on their website (or RRPs that have long since passed). The RRP is $899 now, and can easily be had for $599 from Bing Lee. I am not trying to compare the deal though because Bing Lee are in NSW/ACT only, but still, the TV is just abysmal.

It is not my nature to rubbish deals like this, even more so because you own one (never like making anyone feel bad about a purchase). Perhaps we had a faulty unit, because the image quality is nothing short of terrible. I would even photograph the Palsonic and the NEC side by side to show you what I mean, but I think that's probably going a little too far :)

There is no problem with warranties, NEC honour their 14 day DOA/ELF without problems, but their retail division is still leaving. Some customers don't like that, personally, it doesn't bother me. If it breaks, it still gets serviced/replaced.

  • I'm sorry what? This deal is so lack-lustre I actually fell asleep and smacked my head on the desk! If I wanted an ordinary 22" I can get one for $385. 18" can be had for about $190 with tv tuner. Sorry…
