This ASUS i5 15" laptop looks to be a good value performer for $549 in shopping express laptop of the day. ($50 cheaper than this model on static ice.)

Looks like a decent deal compared to other brands offered elsewhere, and you choose your OS.
This notebook appears about $100 less than on other sites, has a 3rd gen i5-3317u cpu. It's lightweight but not quite an ultrabook. Don't see many 3rd gen i5 laptops available at under $500.
