HP 650 Intel Core i5-3210M 15.6 Inch Laptop 4GB RAM 500GB Win 7 $519 ($479 after Rebate)

40

This HP 650 laptop is $20 off regular prices. You can get a $40 rebate from TrendMicro on this laptop, too, bringing net price after rebate to $479, for a 15" laptop with a 3rd gen i5 cpu. It also has Windows 7, so you don't have to suffer through the W8 'experience'. That's the real reason I posted this 'deal.'
No discrete gpu, and the ad says Intel 3000 gpu, but the Intel site says this cpu has the Intel 4000 gpu. http://www.intel.com/support/processors/mobile/corei5/sb/CS-…
Look closely at the specs. Its not a high-end laptop.

  • The Lenovo E330 looks a better deal, on a smaller screen and support to 8GB, I just got one for $450

    • Mind sharing the config & how you got that price, please?

but seems like the price has gone up,
a voucher would give it 10% discount making it ~$500

        • More like $585 for the i5 (as a comparable cpu to this deal.) Thanks for sharing though.

    • Sounds good. Please share the details. The cheapest i5-3230 E330 I see on the lenovo site is $649.

thanks op, just want to highlight we are sweetening the deal by offering a Free Trend Micro for 3 Users on every laptop we sell on the website with a claimable $40 cash back from Trend Micro

if you can add on this extra savings to your post, will be appreciated :).

    • Done. Can you please verify the gpu in this unit? Is it Intel 4000 as shown on the Intel spec sheet for the i5-3210 cpu, or is it Intel 3000 as shown on your web page?

      • We used information from HP website - BUT Intel processor specs sheet should be more accurate and I am inclined to say it uses HD Graphics 4000.

        • I looked at the spec sheet that your product link uses for the HP site and the data there is a generic sheet showing many different configurations for the HP 650… which starts with some very low end cpus and now goes up to the gen 3 i5 cpu. That spec sheet doesn't appear to have been updated for the newest cpus being used. Thanks for your reply.

        • no worries, we have edited our listing to HD 4000

  • Any cheap ubuntu notebooks/laptops?

    • unfortunately not.

peps, please dont put off because of win 8. its better o/s than win 7 (faster etc). i have installed win 8 over my 2 years laptop and noticed faster and better wifi connection now (exact same hardwares).

and YES I HATE METRO TOO but i never see it on my win 8 laptop.
    how??? install http://www.pokki.com/windows-8-start-menu

    • I tried W8 preinstalled on a new HP laptop (with a 3rd gen i7 cpu) last week. After installing other software to get around the W8 metro rubbish I was unimpressed by speed or usability of W8. I decided to test install W7 on the machine for comparison. I used the W8 tools to reduce the size of the W8 partition so I could create another partition for W7. I didn't even get as far as that because the resizing of the W8 partition (leaving 30Gb of empty space in that partition) caused the machine not to boot claiming missing files. I searched the net for any fix to this and found a multitude of people with problems doing anything vaguely "expert" with W8. That's when I formed the rest of my opinion on the worth of W8. I have never and do not wish to become an unpaid consultant to help MSFT fix their crapos W8. If one can't do something as simple as setting up a second partition on a 500Gb hard drive without crashing the os, then it's not 'improved'. Perhaps in 3 years.

    • win 8 is faster than win 7 but do google this 'win 8 fonts blurry' and read more about it

      • Thanks. I didn't even get to experience that disadvantage, but the 2-D "look" of W8 was bad enough. A couple times I clicked on the wrong thing because the edges of windows are less obvious to the eye; the 3-D clues that makes W7, XP, and Vista easier to use aren't there. That means that productive throughput is worse and the negligible speed enhancement doesn't make up for it. W8 is MSFT's 2nd "New Coke".

  • Just to let people know although this is an i5 it is still only dual core (of course with hyperthreading that would be 4). I am yet to be let down by the processor and I'm assuming it has less cores for power saving but I thought I'd throw in my two cents for those of you who will be using this as a media server possibly transcoding overnight, etc hoping for some multicore power. Of course most transcoding programs use only 1-2 cores or the graphics card but hey.
