MSY Weekend Budget Laptop Deal $399 Samsung N350E5C-A03AU i3-3110M

60

This Samsung looks like a decent performer for $399. Couldn't find any reviews, but the i3-3110M CPU rates better pure cpu performance than the i5-3317u (found in much pricier but smaller/lighter laptops.) I'd buy another 2Gb of memory for under $10. What do you think for less than $400?
Note: On the PDF its 2nd to the right in the Budget-2 section.

  • What's the point of comparing a M processor to a ULV?
They're both 2 very different things.

    • as noted in the 2.33kg weight of this thing - NOT a lightweight machine

    • U series cpu is rated 17W TDP M series typically 35W, so as usual you have to choose between longer battery life(U) or performance(M)

    • Already answered.

    • Unless you really want an improvement in battery life…. are they really 'very different things'?

      • it isnt just battery life - it is heat.
you can build a much smaller/lighter machine with a processor that puts out less than half the heat - you dont need to put so much space and material into getting rid of it

  • Comparison of cpu performance according to notebookcheck.com.

    • Link to comparison?

Do you understand the difference between the 2 processors? Or do you just repeat what you read?

        • Always interested in learning. Please enlighten me.
(I understand that ulv's are designed to use less power and as a result have lower performance.)

        • +1

a ulv is a high bin processor which can run high speeds at very low voltages, an i3 (esp a lower speed one) is a low bin processor which cant even run high speeds at higher voltages.

Comparing the is kinda silly, one is about being cheap, the other is about achieving the smallest units possible

  • i assume its similar to this:

    http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/pc-peripherals/notebook-p…

just a typo on MSY's part

also 2gb lol? throw a 4Gb stick in it

otherwise its spot on for the money

the last acer was usb2 only, this has usb3 and although its an old conventional laptop format, at least its not completely horrible

    • wouldnt be a typo - would be same body with different parts installed, might just be the 2G RAM, might be other things too
thats why have the 'A01' or 'A03' - each tiny change in spec results in a different model #

  • RAM expandable to what ?

  • I cant see it in the pdf where is it?

  • Hmmm, looking at the PDF catalog, the ACER M3 looks like a decent buy.

Just my opinion, but I think ACER is a lesser brand than Samsung, HP, ASUS, Dell in terms of build quality. (That deal also involves applying for and waiting for a $149 rebate from ACER.)

seconded. I wouldn't touch an Acer with a barge pole. Even their biggest dealers hate dealing with their wty

  • I think this is a good deal i3+HD4000+W8 although ram should be 4GB not 2GB.

not hard to grab some while ur there

  • Looks like MSY have a typo with the Model number
    - N350's are/were Atom Netbooks
    Should be NP350E5C-A03AU — released 23 OCt 2012

    http://www.samsung.com/au/support/model/NP350E5C-A03AU-techs…
    - VGA; HDMI; 2 x USB3; 2 x USB2
    - memory is 1 x 2GB sticks
    - also has gigabit ethernet

Nearest price on Staticice is $495
May be the best buy around in the sub-$400 15-inch market.
