      • You will need to unlock unless you use the included Telstra sim or Aldi mobile sim (or any other that uses Telstra network).

      • +1

It doesnt work for other networks, tried with Voda, not working

        • Oops

  • got 2 from coles clayton (on centre road, previous bi-lo)

  • Thanks OP got mine at sanctuary lakes, point cook coles!

As of this morning, there was 1 left at Coles Sunnybank (Brisbane) and 5 at Coles Springwood (Brisbane). We got another 2 after getting 2 in February offer at $49.50 each. For the price, these can't be beat. Sure you cannot play fast paced action games on them, but they run just about everything else quite well. No problems with any Apps I have tried so far. We had one working on Vodaphone (with bagman unlock) and the other now running on Aldi mobile sim (doesnt require unlocking).

For the price, you can't beat them. No way I would pay $700 for an iPhone when you can get this for under $40 and it will do most things very well :)

  • Does anyone know if this Huawei model will work with Lycamobile SIM (without unlocking)?

    • nopes, needs unlocking. go bag_man!

  • picked mine up from parramatta westfield, plenty of stock.

does anyone have sticker residue left on their screen after removing the screen protector?

I have strips of it and finding it hard to remove, dont want to scratch it too hard that I scratch the screen. I'm thinking of getting it exchanged but I already activated it. Should I bring it to the telstra store?

    • You can get some goo remover spray designed to remove sticker residue from Bunnings or other places. Spray some onto a paper towel (not directly on the phone) and carefully rub it off. Of course, you do this at your own risk, but as long as you don't lather the phone in the stuff, and are careful, it should work ok.

    • Is it necessary to remove the screen protector? If i leave the Original Screen Protector would it leave marks / residue when i remove it at a later stage? Is the Original Screen protector of a bad quality?

Edit: Stock available at Coles NewFarm, QLD

      • Got home and got the WD-40 out and it did the trick,

just used a cotton tip and rubbed it off quite easily.

  • Got mine at Coles Croydon, not sure on how much stock they have. After I got mine I didn't see any other stock.
I checked out Coles in Dandenong (near the market) yesterday just in case they started the sale early and they had heaps of stock. I saw at least 20 but it was still full price.

  • Got mine, but paid cash and stupidly threw away the receipt.

If anyone has a reciept that they can scan for me for warranty purposes, I'd appreciate it.
If it has personal information or an IMEI on it, don't worry. Thanks.

    • if you drive a car, hope you took the 8c docket too. save an extra few dollars depending on how much you fill up

  • everton park, brisbane had some. got one!

  • Got 1 today at Carindale QLD.

  • Can anyone recommend a cheap prepaid mobile plan to go with this phone (for Dad)? He probably will make 1-2 calls a day, does not text and will need around 100 mbs of data every month.

(Although keep in mind they are Optus-based so frequencies are not fully available with this phone - should be no problem in metro areas.)

      • Thanks - I'm actually looking for something prepaid.

Wouldn't Vaya plans be a bit of a waste - giving we're paying a premium for their access to the Optus 4g network - since the Y201 doesn't have 4g compatibility?

I'm thinking of going with one of the Virgin prepaid plans, 15 cents per minute calls with no flagfall, 100mb of data. Does anyone know of any other good prepaid plans?

        • Aldi/Kogan or Amaysim(requires unlocking)

        • +1

Buy the $5 prepaid SIM from Aldi - it uses Telstra 3G network, and valids for a FULL year. I used to have Amaysim sims for my family members, but lately I moved some to Kogan (for unlimited $299 a year) and some to Aldi (for long lasting but minimal usage). My young kids are using Viber at home, so they rarely need credits anyway.

    • gotalk prepaid http://www.gotalk.com.au/mobile/Pages/anytime.aspx?ID=PPMgot…

vodafone network I guess so you have to unlock this Telstra phone.

  • anyway to change the lock screen?

can't seem to find where to turn off the emergency call button off

  • None left in Coles Vic Gardens. I bought the last two. Looking for a couple more…

Seem like responsive enough phones. I wonder how this compares to the original iPhone 3G….

    • Just picked up one a few days ago.

Faster than an iPhone 3G, slightly slower than the 3GS, even though its 200Mhz faster.

This might be due to Android not being optimised and to accommodate for all sorts of hardware. Through its use of limitations to the operating system (iOS), it presents a more fluid and responsive phone.

  • Does anyone know if you get the 2500 Flybuy Points for more than one purchase? Two get you 5000?

    • +1

Provided you activate both of them i guess you should be able to get 5000 points. Contact Flybuys on 131116. Easier to use the flybuys of another family member if possible.

    • +2

Bought 2 last time and got 2500 points only.. called flybuys and they confirmed 2500 Flybuy Points per household only!

not sure can u get 2500 last deal and another 2500 this time..

      • Guys, the fly-buys coupon states: "2500 bonus points for EVERY qualifying purchase within the one transaction".

  • just spent half hour putting ROOT, CWM and now installing Profusion rom.

can get rid of all that telstra bloatware.

such an awesome phone for $30, using it as my car mp3 and my gumtree phone

    • I did the same but reverted back to stock because profusion's bluetooth isn't working

      • oh ok,

when I flashed profusion, it didnt actually boot so I just restored my backup, i'll look into flashing another rom again later.

      • BT works just install another kernel

    • To get rid of (Telstra) bloatware, you can install "Root Explorer" apk.
Anyway, which rooting method did you use? I failed rooting it.

  • +1

The checkout lady asked if I wanted to use the flybuys points to take $10 off the price. I said yes. So the price I paid was $29.50.

    • wow, do you still get 2500 points?

    • i think she takes off 2000 points from your account??

"if I wanted to use the flybuys points to take $10 off the price"
<- it seems she was asking u to use your flybuys points gained previously?

      • that makes more sense.

    • You serious? Didn't know you could do that! I thought the points were applied after the SIM was activated.

    • That's your flybuy dollars, 2000 points = $10.

    • Maybe I am mistaken. So I was using points I had already earned?

      • login to your flybuy account and check

  • The 24hr Coles at Burwood, VIC had plenty of stock as mid-afternoon today.

  • has anyone used the $10 credit that comes with activating on the play store?

    • I tried it didn't work for me :(

      • Yep -must be Real Credit (not Bonus credit) for Play Store

  • Can someone tell me what i have to do to get predictive text working? Like if i spell a wrong word i would like it to autocorrect. I have adjusted some settings but can't get it to work, does this phone have that feature?

      • turned off the "spelling correction" option in Settings | Personal | Language & Input
      • installed the Adaptxt App which contains it's own keyboard and dictionary. (It's free.)
  • Ok, dumb move on my part. Into Coles this morning in a hurry after this deal, they had 2 phones only $29 ea, but seemed difft to this special. Bought one of each type,/ an Uno and a Qwerty Touch. Havent opened the boxes in case its better to return them. Who has tried these 2 models? Thanks

    • +3

So you brought two phones not knowing anything about them?

    • At lease these phones come with a 2GB SD card, which are worth about $8.
Unfortunately this values each phone at $21 - twenty dollars too much AFAIC!

      • Do you mean 2gb internal memory or a separate 2gb sd card ? I did not see any separate card aside from the prepaid sim.

        • Separate. Referring to above phones, not Ascend.

  • Found it good forum with excellent information about this Huawei Prepaid. I have a very serious doubt as I bought 6 of these to gift my relatives in INDIA. Whether this handset will work in INDIA or not [Of course, after unlocking it] is a BIG question for me after going through all these posts here. Could anybody tell me ASAP and if not then I will return 5 of these tomorrow itself :)

    • +1

      Popular as Jessie and Biswa…

    • check the frequency in india (the provider network) and compare it with the phones network

    • India uses 3G 2100 and 2G 900/1800 mostly. So YES it will work.

Check with specific provider in India of you like (I'm sure you can look it up on the internet)

      This phone has the following

      2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
      3G Network HSDPA 850 / 2100

      • This phone supposedly has NO GSM 1800 according to raven2000 on the previous page.

    • Don't forget to use the included $10 credit per phone. They cant use it in India anyway.

  • Confirming that Coles, Burwood East, VIC, still has plenty as of this morning.

  • My brother works at Coles and their policy dont accept returns of prepaid phones or prepaid mobile cards!

So dont buy it unless you need it and dont expected a return for it

    • Return to Huawei Aust. via Telstra for warranty, got one there now after bricking!

  • Just picked up one at World Square Coles Sydney Thanks OP

  • I have unlocked it, but had problem rooting it! I tried oneclick and two more method yet non of them got it rooted.
    Anyone have got luck?

  • For those still looking for one in the Sydney area, Coles Birkenhead Point has plenty of stock.

  • thanks, good fone for that price

  • Anyone knows what video converter I can use to view my avi in this phone ?

  • Struggletown, whoops I mean Queanbeyan has stock…..

    • Snobtown, whoops I mean Curtin, ACT has stock

  • I purchased this phone after checking the flybuys website I ended up getting only 39 points. Does it take time for the points to show up in my account.

    • 39 is for your purchase. 28 days for the 2500 points of the offer (after activation of the SIM)

  • .
I tried 2 Coles stores in Melbourne but they had sold out
and the sales-chick said they could have sold more if they'd had them

    Oh well ……… them's the breaks !!

  • Can you return these after using them? Mine has a dud battery that only lasts 8hrs or so, and a warning message comes up sometimes saying the temperature's too cold for some functions too work.

    • What's the issue? If it's faulty take it back.
Having said that, not sure how Coles handle IT-type problems…

  • 11 sitting over the counter at Braybrook Vic at 3:30 today

  • Hey guys, just got this and used the second link to unlock. At NCKserver.com. put in my IMEI and paid by PayPal…. what happens now? I didn't put in my email address or anything else? I assume they will send me a code to my PayPal email address?

  • anyone find a good case for this?

  • Just picked up mine today. Such a fabulous phone for the price

  • picked one up from the Coles at springvale junction - they still had a few left this morning if you're quick!

  • Picked mine up at Coles Westfields Liverpool, they still have a few left

  • .
Thanks to luke73 for posting the 1st posting about the sale

Coles extended the sale some stores got extra stock and I finally got one and it was last one where I went
don't think I'll bother to $$ someone to unlock (only needed if using an Optus carrier)

    Thanks luke73 :)

  • does anyone know if lycamobile will work on the phone without unlocking ? Lyca use telstra also. thanks in advance.

  • Can I activate the TLS sim to get the 2500 flybuys, then pay the unlock fee?

  • Has this finished? is it today (1/5) or tomorrow?

    • Yes ended, unfortunately. Just rang my local Coles. Somehow missed out on this posting. Phone would have been perfect for my needs. Oh well.

  • I thought it was today, if they have any left.

  • I just bought one at coles Riverlink QLD - they had heaps of stock it scanned at $39.50 so i'd say today is the last day.

    • I recall reading somewhere that this deal is extended to mid May. It was in a fly buys catalogue. I threw mine out, so can't confirm.

      • I can confirm that there is a coupon for the phone in the Flybuys members letter that was sent out recently.

You have to tear out the coupon and at the back there's a barcode for the cashier to scan, the price will come up as $79 and then the discount should show up before you pay.

You will also get a bonus 2500 points.

Therefore the phone is still $39.50, offer valid till 26th May 2013, but for (selected?) Flybuy members only.

I got an extra one this way.

        • Thanks forthe info. Anywhere to access this coupon? I haven't upgraded my phone and still have a Nokia flip heh. Was thinking this would be a cheap solution. A scan perhaps?

Edit: By the grace of the gods, I still have my catalogue. They usually get thrown out within a day. Thanks for the heads up though guys.

  • Do we need to activate the SIM by a certain date to get the 2500 points?
(My SIM became PUK locked when I set up a SIM lock code. Will have to contact Telstra, but cant ring on phone due to PUK lock & am in rainforest for a while!)

    • +1

      By 26th May… Bruce

(going by the flybys barcoded printout)

      • Thanks! Very "snappy" response.
I better get the PUK unlocked. (Have no voice service here except VOIP on Telstra Mobile Broadband, until connect locked SIM.)
        My printout is 1500+km away.

        • Saw Telstra - they said it was impossible to PUK-LOCK a SIM that has not been activated. (Always interesting doing the impossible.) But they agreed it was locked without being activated. Tried to sell me a $2 SIM. Explained I needed to activate this SIM for $10 included Bonus credit & $12.50 worth of FlyBuys. Don't know how I will get out of this!

        • +2

I believe you can register the sim online on the telstra website even though the sim is locked. They will then automatically email you the PUK unlock code and a PIN Number. Hopefully this should unlock the Sim. Best of Luck!
