  • When Grilld opened up next to this site there was a 200 person long queue to get a free burger.
Are the free burritos worth queuing up for?

    • +6

geez, it's free and you still complain. GTFO

      • +2

shrug my lunch hour is worth something to me. We aren't all unemployed or retired looking to fill in the hours till wheel of fortune comes on.
If somebody says, yes, their burritos are awesome, then I'll give it a go and queue up. If somebody says 'the free ones are small sample size' or something similar I'll skip it. But since they have been posted before when they opened other sites it's not a hard question.

        • +1

they are the normal sizes (not mini or sample) and you can also get the "burrito bowl" option (not wrapped).

        • +4

If you lunch hour is worth something to you, why stand in the line to save $10? Plus, I didn't even know wheel of fortune was still on TV! Didn't the guy on it leave to make Burgo's catch phrase or whatever his name was?

        • +1

          Dammit, you're right sauce2k6.
How about I give you $2 to stand in line for me?

        • +2

Only if you ask me via a Burgo-type catch phrase.

        • yes, their burritos are awesome. i just got one from Crowsnest for $10.90 .. best $10.90 i've ever spent in my life!

        • you must not be very wise with your money then? which leads me to question why you're on ozbargain!

these are great for being free - but definitely would never ever pay 11$ for one.

        • Firstly its $10.90 .. if you call it $11 i question why your on ozbargains!!!! 10c is still 10c

If you go out and spend $10.90 on fast food and compare, you will see the value of this! Everything else in this price range is just disappointing.

Saving a few dollars getting low QTY fast food i wouldn't really call much of a bargain more of a "saving"
Buying a Dell 30" Monitor for 37% off and saving me $600 is WHAT i call a bargain and is where i save my money to then be able to afford my $10.90 dollar bettors.

Try one before you bag it out.. i also thought it was a bit "too much $" at first.

        • I have tried one - in fact I've tried multiple at a similar opening giveaway for another store. This is why i said "these are great for being free". I would never pay $10.90 for a wrap, filled with avocado and rice and a bit of meat. If this was at around the 6-7$ price point I would consider it much more BUT it isn't.

Not to mention fast food is junk more often than not, and I rarely eat fast food.

Regardless, $10.90 for a burrito is NOWHERE IN THE WORLD, a bargain for a burrito.

Last time I queued up at GYG North Sydney Free Burrito Day it was quite quick despite the long queue. It only took about 10 minutes.

The burritos are quick to make since they pretty much have similar ingredients and their menu have less variety.

    • Still my fave lunchtime meal. These burritos are boss.

    • I wonder if charity organizations are notified of these deals.

  • +5

the burritos are disgusting you wont like them, you better give me yours :)

    • i like the way u think .. mmmm so good .. shorten that lineup

I wouldn't pay. Absolutely horrible food from this place!

    • Those who negged, have you actually eaten at this place?

      • +1

just because you dont like it doesn't mean everyone is going to hate it. when grub is free i dont look a gift horse in the mouth. they are a successful business so alot of people obviously like the food. its not to your taste

    • +1

It's a good thing this burrito is free, then?

    • +1

Well I quite liked it. I have eaten at Newtown NSW.

    • +2

I signed up just to say: I think their burritos are awesome.

  • They really let us down in brisbane

  • +2

I don't know much about anything. EXCEPT burritos. Trust me, they are good. Not sure whether quality will suffer on a busy opening day but GYG make good burritos!

  • Best Burritos Around Sooooo Good!!

  • +1

Love mexican and read that these were great so last time in Sydney I sourced one for a try at full price.
I was less than impressed and wouldn't be bothered again even if they are free.

  • +2

Went to the GYG in Mel Swanston Street recently and was really disappointed with the burritos I got. Overpriced and underwhelmed, which is a shame as I was looking forward to trying it out. Wouldn't pay full price again for that food.

  • Shame its not a Chipotle Mexican Grill instead. GYG would be an afterthought.

  • I just went there to get free Burrito, but line was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo looooooooooooooong >.<
it went around the corner onto the George st, and its not lunch time yet.

  • Overrated consumerism…. Though if you've got the time and patience, why the heck not? =P

  • +1

These are best burritos in the world! Nothing comes even better.

    • +5

Obviously your world is the one block wherever the hell it is that you live

  • Just grabbed one. Got down there about 11:30, the line went around past Cotton On on George St. Was walking away with my Burrito by 11:48.

  • Was there at 11:00, left with TWO burritos by 11:20.

  • Just was there - NO THANKS - queue was far too long just for this. Wont be ever going back to them in any case - overpriced takeaway food - so no big deal for me.

  • Just came back from GYG. 12:50pm arrival. Got my burrito at 1:20pm…. as others have said.. very over-rated but great for free =P

  • It was well organized, they had people there to manage the queue and were giving away free chips to people waiting in the queue. El Jefe (the head) was there if you wanted to ask him about the shop. The queue moved quickly, there was a Mexican mariachi band and a lot of the staff were real Mexican or Spanish speakers.

Ok, the burritos were bland, most of the flavour was in the chilli.

  • Joined the queue at 3:10pm and had my burrito (pork chipotle) by 3:25pm. The queue moved very quickly. I was happy with the taste and quality, GyG are probably my favourite Aussie burrito chain. The staff were efficient and friendly and more than happy to answer questions about the products. Even got a chance to have a chat with the manager who was standing at the top of the queue and greeting all the customers.

Still a few hours of free burritos left so make a trip there if you get a chance, it is worthwhile. I'll definitely be returning in coming weeks. :)
