    why on earth does this need to be done through facebook? they are just cutting off potential customers

    • +1

      Two reasons come to mind:

      1. You can associate a facebook with the account. Might be useful in some demographic data harvesting way.

      2. I found out about this offer when two of my friends did it on facebook. Publicity, shows all the other non-combank friends that hey combank not so bad and with this offer it makes it even more tempting. Potentially more customers. They must've done some research and found that they could bypass advertising completely and use their customers to promote their own product. Just need some sort of incentive.

    Show the evidence in branch? How quaint.

    • +1

      for those that are not confident with security signing up to a bank online but are happy to share all their details with facebook ;)

    • Errrm if anything you should be giving them praise for actually allowing people to take up the offer and choose to do the sign up online or on the net….

      • +1

        Online or on the net? Was that intentional or a mistake?

        • I woulda thought that was quite obvious a typo on my behalf….I meant in branch or on the net….

      • I read that in branch as a required step not as one option of two. Whoever wrote that copy should be sent back to grammar school or shot. If there is an either beginning the sentence then the matching or should be in the same sentence.

  • Thanks, as always they only look after new customers.

    • Another reason to deal elsewhere :-)

      • Although it wont suit or apply to everyone, it would be a good deal for some people

  • +1

    There is a $4 or $6 a month fee on an everyday account that can be waived if you met certain conditions and deposit $2000 a month into the account other than that it's an ok deal.

    • If your a student of any kind (Tafe, private college, uni) all fees are waived.

      • *you're

      • If your a student of English then they'l make u do a test first to c if ewe qwalify.

    • Wow so they will charge us $12-18 for the first three months, which we need while waiting for the freebie card on 30 June.
      Hmm perhaps CBB.

  • +3

    I suspect it's all a numbers game so that they can claim X million customers when they borrow funds on the wholesale market.

  • Damn, I'm already with the CBA and have this account. Therefore I miss out :(

    • yeah, says "who open their first Everyday Account"

      so you are not eligible even if you have closed it previously

    • same

    • just to let u know i got an email that says i can get 40 dollars if i set up a regular savings transfer to my netsaver if i deposit 250 dollars or more into my netsaver ea month during april may june and july ish they will give me 40 dollars

      dno if u guys have that email as well

    WAIT UP! "only open to the first 3,000 customers who open their first Everyday Account and use their debit card three times on purchases" but they have let 4,244 claim on Fackbook? What's going on?

    • +1

      more customers for free :)

  • +5

    Too many hurdles, I think I’ll pass.
    1. Must go through Facebook;
    2. Must be first Everyday Account with CBA;
    3. Must make three transactions;
    4. First 3,000 customers only;
    5. Account Incurs monthly fee;
    6. Cannot close account at any time prior to fulfilment;

  • +5

    Just open an ING account and use paywave for 5% off. Its a lot easier to get the 50 bucks this way.

    • Definitely better and not as many hoops to jump through for $50.

    • -2

      Make more money faster begging on the streets.

    • spend $1000 dollars (10 transactions of $99) to get $50 @ ING
      OR
      spend $3 (3 chocolate cars in 3 seperate transactions) to get $50 card

      Both require online signup
      Both require verification of identity

      what would a true ozbargainer do?

      • +1

        I already had the account and I easily spend $1k over 7 months so the only work I had to do was to apply for the chip card.

      • +2

        what would a true ozbargainer do?

        Both!

      • 3 chocolate cars

        I want a chocolate car!

        • too full after easter

      • +1

        but there is still the monthly fees and you have to close the account after three month.

    • interesting, i received an email today from ingdirect in which said they'd forked out $2.4M so far for the wave & save promo. honestly i thought it would have been a lot more.

      • 2.4M equates to 48M in spending

        http://ingdirect.wieck.com/releases/ing-direct-australia-del…

        stats that ING has 1.5M customers as of 2012.

        mmmmmmm……. assuming only 0.5M of those customers uses the card, and its still less than 150 bucks per user….

        I know personally I would have spend at least 2-3 grand via Paywave since this started. So why aren't more people using the card?

        • I suspect 1. that 0.5M is an overestimate, that's 500,000 people with the chip card, many people were too lazy to apply for one even though it was free; 2. $2-3k is a lot for many. To reach that you would have to spend ~$100/week since the campaign began.

  • I can't access the form online through Netbank. Error message the forms are not available try again later.

  • +1

    Agree to many conditions to go through as well just to get this. These kind of accounts have the lowest interest rates around. Topped with the all the other service and account keeping fees. If I was going to use an everyday account I would personally keep the amount of money to a minimum and find an alternative place to invest the rest.

    http://www.commbank.com.au/personal/accounts/transaction-acc…

    • They offer a Netbank saver account that has a reasonable interest rate although certainly not the best out there. Personally though I choose to stick with them for a number of reasons:
      *No day-to-day fees (when banking my salary every month to the everyday account)
      *Free Gold Low-Fee credit card
      *Links upto my Commsec account
      *Their online banking platform is quite good
      *They have a good Android app
      *Good network of ATMs

      • +1

        *Free Gold Low-Fee credit card

        Min $10k spend/yr according to T&C

  • +1

    Netbank is temporarily unavailable. O well expired most likely.

  • i reckon i'll transfer $2k every month from my mebank account then bounce it right back.

  • +1

    Account opening through Netbank is unavailable. Just tried it now.

    Given this offer is limited to the first 3000 customers only, it is highly likely that unless you can open the account online either today or tomorrow, then you most likely will miss out.

    The product itself is very poor value as it is a transaction account that HAS FEES.

    Bottom line, I think there is no deal here and we should all just move on. I agree with Sweet3st above that this deal should probably be marked as expired.

  • +1

    OK, I signed up online yesterday, got my BSB and account number, and paid in some money.
    How do I get my debit card number/expiry so I can make the three purchases before the 3000 limit is reached?

  • Went for this and jumped all the hoops. despite the fees.
    Well guess what?
    They had no idea what I was talking about when I took a copy of the email in to a branch and are currently "investigating"…

    • +1

      Can I interest you in a ME Bank home loan with a $100 Coles Myer gift card? instead? :-P

    • +1

      Not surprised. I opened one of these accounts when they were giving away $100 for their centenary. Person at my local CBA did not know about the promo even though there was an ad for it on the counter between us! Applied early & met similar T&C but got no money.

      Complained many times but every time l was told it would need to be investigated. After 6 months of being given bogus reasons why I mlght not have met the T&C, I took my complaint to the flagship branch. Finally found my branch had failed to tick the promo box on the application. The person investigating agreed it was their mistake, but any payment would come from the branch, not from the promo - so no one wanted to admit the mistake. Hence all the excuses & "investigations" to fob me off. Finally got my $100 but I had to work for it!!

      • +1

        I faced a similar issue when I applied for a similar offer for a credit card. Except I never got my $100 and figured it was no longer worth my time lol.

        • +1

          Every time I waited the few minutes to complain at the CBD flagship branch, got the free hot chocolate, marshmallows & cake!

  • DO NOT OPEN MORE ACCOUNTS - IT IS CLOSED BUT CBA KEPT IT ON FACEBOOK AND ON ITS WEBSITE FOR LONG TIME.
