or you live life on the edge and lash out and get the $4.55 one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mini-Red-Wine-Travel-Aerator-Esse…
As others have pointed out, it is not free - it is a bonus/gift for having paid $40 to subscribe.
It is false and misleading to say it is free, and to publicise a "value" of $30.
Pay $40 and get an item worth <$5. Great bargain thanks.
Aw geeze….
<personal opinion>
Wine aerators are evil… or at least pointless. People seem to mix up the change in taste/mellowing of a wine through rapid oxidation caused by this versus the increasing complexity of flavours etc caused through slow aging assisted by the small pocket of air trapped in the bottle. They can be compared in the same way that 'Bakon Flaverin' is the same as actual bacon, or Burger Extender is hamburger meat, or carob is chocolate, or…. you get the idea.
I've also heard people say an aerator means you don't have to decant a bottle of wine. No - when you carefully decant a (usually old, normally red) bottle of wine it's to stop getting a mouthful of grit or 'wine crystals'. Sometimes an old bottle of wine will have a bad/musty smell on opening that decanting will remove or at least reduce - but usually that musty smell also means that the bottle is past its prime so you might not want to bother anyhow. People may also say you swirl a wine glass to aerate the wine - again no, it's to fill the bowl of the glass with the bouquet/aroma that is a significant part of the overall taste experience.
Gourmet Traveller providing one of these lowers my opinion of the publication - to me it would be like a health magazine providing a packet of healing crystals or ear candles. Basically, use one of these if you want but I figure it's snake oil. Put the $40 towards some wine instead. Open a bottle, ideally with food & company, pour a glass or two, and enjoy….

I agree with your argument and agree that buying a magazine subscription for a 'free' aerator is pointless.
If I want to aerate my wine I swirl the glass. For the aroma, which I hope will be OK if I buy and cellar decent wines. The trick is to buy lots of cases good quality wine (something you really like) - then opening up a bottle and enjoying it with people you like. While trying to preserve my liver… after killing it softly with all this drinking!
This is NOT a Freebie when you have to pay $40 to get it…
