  • I really like this program, and paid full price for it a while ago. They have a demo to try too. This is a great deal for anyone looking for a budgeting program

They started selling software a while back.

      It still feels awkward though.

    • They also sell game dev programs and benchmark programs such as 3D Mark.

Too expensive for a budgeting app
I vote for Money Manager Ex which also has an android version which links into my db on dropbox to update my transactions

I'd buy it but it lacks achievements and multiplayer capabilities.

    Thanks for this OP.
YNAB was added to the store in Dec last year with a discount of 10% I think.
I've been watching steam every couple of days for the past three months for it to come on special with a bigger discount.

Seems a bit expensive for something people can do easily in any spreadsheet program.
Considering this is OzBargain, I would expect everyone on this website to have a very tight grasp of their budget.

Seriously people, if you're thinking about paying money for this, you should spend 10 mins to learn how to add and subtract using google docs spreadsheet program. It's seriously the easiest thing to create a budget spreadsheet.

    • I've used excel for years but as soon as I saw this I bought it. Am loving the fact I can sync YNAB to dropbox and pair the desktop version with the android app. Now whenever I buy anything I just log the expense on my phone. I won't even have to touch a computer until I decide to reconcilliate or reorganise the budget.

Makes micro-monitoring my expenses down to the cent so incredibly convenient.

I guess the question is, for anyone who owns this, what's the advantage of this over the aforementioned spreadsheet solution?

    • http://www.mdmproofing.com/iym/excel.html has great templates if you want to use excel

Fast importing of transactions with minimal effort. Of course you can copy paste into Excel but this is a very tidy solution, also for finance related tasks like splitting an item into multiple categories. It remembers the category for repeated transactions so importing is faster again.

Another reason I prefer it is because conceptually the budget consists of two parts- the target spending, and a record of actual spending. In Excel you would need two sheets for these, and cross referencing is non-trivial. For example, you can click on a budget item and immediately see all of the transactions from that category for that month. You would need to apply two data filters in Excel to do the same- not that you can't do it, just that it takes longer and is more difficult

i can add new transactions on the road before i forget.
