440

I know that this phone is no longer bleeding edge, however the price has come down another $120-odd, so its certainly more attractive in terms of price.

ship within 2-3 weeks, will Kogan charge immediately or till dispatched?

    • They charge immediately.

Order the Samsung Galaxy Camera, was quote 2 weeks but was shipped out in 3 business days.

  • pretty good price anyway

  • :-O It's an old phone, but it's so great.

Love Windows Phone (not its App Store) but like many, I'm sure, WHY CAN'T NOKIA MAKE ANDROID PHONES WIT DAT BODY!?

      6 months = old?

      • +2
        1. manufacturers release a newer version every 12 months
        2. newer ones announced nowadays have better ap (quad core 1.7ghz +) and full hd screen.

So, I guess we can call it an old phone.

        • The dual core Krait is reported to often outperform the quad core cortex, as the Nokia is based on the krait it could be faster, however running a different os to current quad core androids. its still the latest and greatest Windows Phone

      • I don't think it is, but in terms of technology, 6 months is aaaaages.

      • I still think my Samsung Galaxy SII is sexy as hell. Then again, at 21, I'm ancient.

The phone was released in November here. Plus it had wireless charging and NFC before most. The camera is top notch and so is the 720p display. 1080p on a small display doesn't make much sense unless you get giddy over specifications. WP8 is a really good user experience and was only released when the phone was. So I am not sure how anyone can say this is an old phone. It is a little chunky, but is built like a tank. I don't use a case and there is no scratches after 3 months.

      • Camera on this is one of the best ones out there, not too fond about W8 though

      • NFC is near useless on WP.
Now wireless charging, that is awesome. I can't go back to wires now. Shame it doesn't work with metal cases. Love the feeling of cold metal…

While it was released in November, the hardware was a bit dated, Snapdragon S4 Pro was out with twice the cores and a better GPU. MSFT really need to loosen up the allowed specs. Yes it runs smooth, but unlike Apple devices you know exactly what is inside and it's hard not to feel a little ripped when comparing to Android devices.

        • Isn't NFC near useless on everything? ;)

Yes, it doesn't allow low level access to read non NDEF-formatted tags, and you can't lock tags.

But you can read standard NDEF tags fine, and you can share websites/contacts/photos etc over NFC to another Windows Phone, a Windows 8 device, or an Android device.

        • lol even more so then.

I haven't personally used it on an Android device, but from what I hear, people say they use it to set profiles and tap the tag to launch apps and set settings all in one fell swoop.
With my 920 on the other hand, I tap it, accept communication from the tag to launch an app, OR go to the settings page so that I manually change something. And seeing as I have to have it unlocked to function, I might as well just pin the damn thing to the start screen. It's not even less taps if you set up your start screen right…

  • For an extra $121 gets local stock with 2 years Nokia supplied Warranty from sites like Mobileciti

Great grey market price tho :)

      It's not old.

      • +6

I don't understand how that related to my comment :/

        • -2

On the contrary, I feel it has a very strong correlation to your comment indeed.

    • $134 more when you include postage (for those who can't pick up from their store in NSW). But that is 24% more!! This is Ozbargain where every dollar matters.

Besides, you can say that for almost all other mobile phone deals posted here, price difference between a grey importer like kogan and Mobileciti is around 25% for most high end phones.

  • Price is good. Just wondering where can i buy a good protection case for this phone without paying too much? Dont think the silicone ones are too nice on them.

    • +1

Have you seen the official ones? They are made of silicone(or some other soft plastic) but they fit very well.

      • cool. will check it out for sure

I really like my yellow L920. Great phone, good price. After getting burnt with android, i'm quite satisfied with WP8, although MS still needs to put a bit of work on it, which they are doing. Buy this phone if you don't want to muck around with rooting, and just want something working out of the box. The camera is also very good.

      • -3

        why don't you die

    • I was thinking about getting the Lumia 920 before I saw this camera review:
      http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/item/17055_The_big_s…
From that it seems that the camera is pretty rubbish.

      • +1

Hmm, I've seen the low light performance and it's phenomenal.

There have been software updates which improved the camera still (yes, that's a recent article I realise)

Also, I don't get these shootout reviews that do full crop - do people seriously print out these photos on a large scale?

      • +1

As a 920 and Nokia N8 owner I will admit the N8 has a better camera. But I have never been disappointed with the quality of photos the 920 takes, especially in low light conditions. Most of the 920 photos look out of focus. From my own experience and the fact that is a Symbian site, I wouldn't take it too seriously.

Will Kogan be remotely locking the phone if I make too many calls?

    • all phones on Kogan.com.au are unlocked.

  • Great phone let down by the lack of Apps. Still a good deal though.

  • Is this LTE ready?

    • +2

      Yup - will work here. 4G Network: 800, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600

      • Just did a side by side test with my Lumia against a SG Note 2 in Redfern, Sydney on Telstra 4g, the Sammy took the crown at 40mbs while my Lumia only hit about 31Mbps. Putting it down to either OS or CPU as the only differences

    • Yes. It says it right on the main Kogan page even.

  • I have this phone, it works great, but I miss having an AMOLED screen. The 820 might be the better choice for people like me who want a nice bright screen and don't care about the high-res marketing hype.

  • I had the HTC 8x which was great but I had to get rid of it due to the poor app store. How bad is it? The YouTube app is just a basic browser that takes you to the mobile website.

    • how did you manage to not find Metrotube? That almost deserves you an award for failing.

    • I think the mobile website is great. Seems fully functional to me and never needs me to update it. The website can send videos straight to the Xbox from your mobile which is awesome. I don't have any issues with the website version.

  • had my lumia 920 since launch. had windows phone since 7 launched. by far the best OS for smoothness and less headache. yes I don't have 600k apps with most being fart apps. but most of the good ones are there. I don't really used apps, and word is included which is nice to do a quick edit or read.

well worth it at this price. + the camera is the best ive used in any phone.

    • Issue is some of the important ones eg eBay don't have all the functionality of the Android counterpart.

also more apps cost money on the Windows platform, whereas there is a higher availability of free or ad sponsored apps on Android

      • What functionality does the android app have that the WinPho one doesn't?

        • Can view order details of sold items, a must for sellers

  • +1

Windows 8 is the best operating system out there for phones… More user friendly than android and none of the problems that it brings…
I've used all the os on phones and seen people come into optus at my work with problems… Windows 8 and nokia together win last years best phone… this is an amazing price

  • +1

You really shouldn't buy from Kogan. They always ship late (if ever), have the worst customer service and dick around with you when you try to get a refund. Going through a battle with them now over a camera that they shipped 3 weeks late and after I cancelled the order. Still going… bought it in beginning of Feb and now trying to get my money back. No luck so far.

  • Price is pretty good. I just bought one in Thailand for $575…

  • Can I get GST back in the airport as I am flying out at the end of April?

    • No

  • People, if I buy outright, can you please tell me which sim card provider I should connect the phone to? If I connect to Telstra, I will be better off to sign up a contract with Telstra.

  • You can a white one at Unique Mobile for $529 + $19 shipping = $548
    http://www.uniquemobiles.com.au/checkout/cart/configure/id/1…

Never bought from them, though. Are they any good, compared to Kogan?
