Have given this tripod an absolute beating and it's still going strong. Recommended.

  • Any monopod deal from them?

  • r u sure it fits well with dslr?

    • Hi Teragiga,

      See the comments below.

      Cheers,
      CamerasDirect

  • Supports up to 1.5kg. Wouldn't use it with a DSLR

      Hey Johnn,

It's good for an entry level SLR with a kit lens, e.g. D3200/D5200/600D/650D with an 18-55mm kit lens for example. Good for compact/mirrorless cameras too.

      Regards,
      CamerasDirect

    • u r actually right. when i did research years ago, i learned from real photographer and good sales support persons that not to buy a tripod that claims to support max 1.5 kg for your 1.5 kg camera+lens.

      • Agreed. You wouldn't want your $2000+ camera on $50 tripod.
I would spend a lot more than that.

    • Really depends on your SLR, I've got a Olympus E-520 and it was perfectly stable with the 150-300mm lens fitted. (The E-520 is pretty compact though.)

    • Reading some reviews, it has no problems with a heavy 5D MKII with 70-200L lens.

Great deal. My only concern is if CamerasDirect are a good mob to deal with. Opinions?

      Hey Cheepwun,

I've heard they're a good mob! If you have any questions, let me know or call us on 1300 727 056/07 5665 2000, flick us an e-mail on [email protected]!

i recommend them since i've ordered from them before.

even gave me a free hat in my order and a cleaning cloth in my previous order

        • +3

          Did you wear the hat?

        • i still have the HAT!

Yet your camera is made in Thailand and has major sensor oil leaking issues?

    • They're good. Good customer service, and ordered from them a few times. Recommended.

    • They are good if you use credit card. Using direct deposit will lead to a slight delay (banks can be slow) though I feel CamerasDirect's direct deposit processing could have been quicker.

Their shipping charge is quite reasonable, though the courier company isn't that fast.

  • Looks like it has a ball head, and was looking at it for my D5100, but 1.5KG doesn't sound right.

    • Hey Kulprit,

1.5kg is the correct maximum load for this tripod/head kit.

      Thanks,
      CamerasDirect

  • The tripod supports up to 1.5kg

can't really support a dslr with any big lenses

    • i'm currently using on a canon 650d with 24-105 f/4 without issue

almost hit the 1.5kg mark there

    • my canon 70-200 is 1.4kg :(

a bit of wind and it might be unstable.

  • Is the tripod head exchangeable or fixed?

    • Hi Maogua,

      It is a fixed head.

      Thanks,
      CamerasDirect

  • hi Rep,
how come shipping comes out as $16.95?

    sorry, found it!

    • Hey dreambuds,

That sounds like express shipping to me :) Select standard for $4.95 shipping.

      Cheers,
      CamerasDirect

  • Just ordered one for my Sony handy cam. Thank you for the offer. :)

  • old model, used to sell for $99, i got mine 2nd hand for $55 2 years ago, using this iwth pentax k-x.
no issue but the new version i think has better locking/gripping mechanism.
with this one, when you lock it sometimes you will find you need to readjust.
if you do alot manual focusing (macro) then little bit pain in the azz
    also doesnt come with bag.

  • bought one, thanks

  • when does this deal finish?

  • +1

Good tripod and price but shame about the height. Do you have a similar offer on a taller one?

    • Agreed. I'm kicking myself for missing the DSE Optex pistol grip one for $49! :(

  • +2

    done, added this for $1
    http://www.camerasdirect.com.au/camerasdirect-small-cleaning…

then applied $5 coupon from email subscribing - only took 1 hour to come through

    which took 5 off $50 ( but increased postage to $6.95 )

    $52.85 shipped!

  • Was going to snap it up until I saw the 1.5kg max weight recommendation :(
Anyone have any tripod recommendations for a camera that with lenses attached weighs more than that?

  • I think this model is a better deal, $51.71 shipped Australia wide:
    http://www.snappit.com.au/inca-tripod-i530-w-ball-socket-hea…

    It has several advantages:
    3kg load rating
    adjustable angle of tripod legs
    in-buit spirit level

    edit: manufacturer's page: http://www.inca.net.au/tripods.html

    • I find mine a pain to use with all those extra joints in the legs.
Then I remember that I have less bulk to pack and get over it…… :P-)

    • Has anyone actually used this one? Does seem like it would suit me more, other than the fact that Inca is not as a respected brand as Manfrotto.

  • Ordered one for my mirrorless camera. :-)

  • I purchased a Manfrotto from CamerasDirect - super speedy delivery with the express delivery. However, the tripod came missing parts, and I am waiting on CamerasDirect to reply to my email - should be interesting to see how it unfolds.

  • Worth watching, a review of this tripod

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mDOYTlWLhA

    • The reviewer did not show the tripod with a DSLR. The last bit was done with a Canon point and shoot. Manfrotto is a good brand, but this is for light weight DSLR with a light weight lens.

  • Looks a little flimsy for long exposures and the like… Can anyone vouch for how sturdy it is with vibration, wind etc?

  • I would never use this with anything heavier than an entry level DSLR and the stock kit lens. These are much more suited for handy cams and lightweight mirrorless cameras. If you are using a dslr with heavier lenses then have a look at the manfrotto 290 series as a minimum.

  • out of stock now

  • Hi Everyone,

We're getting more stock, although we haven't been able to offer the same great price. It's now $59.90.

    Thanks!

I own this tripod, and have used it extensively because it's what I have. I bought it a couple of years ago for a video camera, and now use it with a 600D and a sigma 30mm 1.4 and tokina 11-16 (reasonably heavy lenses).

The head is designed for panning with video, not still photos. It's difficult to orient very well. You can't set up for portrait shots. The quick release is one of manfrottos own design, so replacing it when lost is annoying in a pinch (usually have to have it shipped in).

Of course as mentioned here, it's light weight. If there is any wind at all, doing long exposures is unreliable. On the plus side it's wonderfully portable. I've been able to carry it around with it's legs security it to the bottom of my man bag strap (this is incidentally how I seem to keep losing my quick releases frequently).

When I first bought my video cam I had some seriously shonky plastic things I bought for $10-20 cheaper. This is probably the best value for money you can get - but I think for DSLR if you're interested in exploring photography you can get so much more for $50-100.
