    Darn… it's a hard choice between Mexican Playboy and Elevator World… :-)
Or perhaps COINage or maybe Business Jet Traveller (seeing as how I'm thinking of getting a Lear)

Nice find anyway. I've used that Zinio reader thing a couple years ago.
It was on the right track back then, presumably its even more slicker now.

Wont give a negitive as the site has been said before on here and not long ago http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/8043
but this was for only the pc subscription

    • +2

      rewstar

You are correct, it was published before but under free PC magazine, which is no longer available. As such it doesnt advise people that there are other magazines also available, which means that many who are not interested in PC magazines would have missed the availability of what was being offered. Included in that was myself (Macuser).

As such I thought it would be appropriate to post this "again" with broader coverage so others could share the bargain.

Voting doesnt benefit me as, being a mod on this site I have excluded myself from the weekly prize.

I appreciate the non negative vote as much as the comment you have made - in essence the deal will still be appealing to some, where a negative vote would reduce its visibility as a bargain, to those who may have missed the previous deal

what do you get for being a mod? - see my reply below - LOL (ozpete was here)

        • +1

          POWER to edit posts!!! LOL

When I tried to add another one, it said account is already existed.

Reading my downloaded magazine now. All around very good, and a decent range of titles to choose from as well.

  • +3

The Playboy is actually the "real deal"…all naked women in Centrefold spreads, etc!

    No Censorship!

    • +1

Its mexican Playboy! What use is that if you don't read Spanish?

  • +3

      GENIUS. EFFING GENIUS!

  • manobik: It does indeed work… nice. But it does appear to only offer a limited selection.

    • Yah, it seems zinio offers 23 titles!

  • u can subscribe to multiple by using different emails..

  • +8

i got all free in 1 email account.. create one with ur email and quit the page (dont log out), go back into the free link (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/goto/9687)choose another magazine and sign up again using another email similar to ur 1st email (doesnt have to be a valid email but name must be similar).. eg…if u use [email protected] the next one u use is [email protected] it'll go into ur first account ([email protected]), it wont ask you to create password.. u,ll see all the magazine there on subscription page.

try see if it works for u
*i did this on internet explorer…

    • nice, that worked using firefox, thanks

    • It works. Just subscribe again using a fake email address. When it prompts for password, just copy and paste the url to IE with the fake email address in the url changes to the real one.

    • thanks, worked for me using firefox 3 on a mac

There are also free sample single issues of other magazines to be had.

  • i signed up to slam magazine but it didnt work..got no magazine

  • An excellent post - I grabbed Shutterbug

  • I don't understand how to get multiple magazines, kspec's instructions confuse me… but I got one freebie so I'm happy. I'll figure it out later hopefully :)

  • was able to add several magazines but can't read them.. it always display that "our records show that you already read or downloaded this magazine".. but still a great find

  • +2

you can. Just log out. Log back in and go to "library" then either download the reader or read online. I managed to get 8 that i wanted…Note there are also ones such as macworld, pc magazine etc that are free from this link once you have your account:

    http://www.zinio.com/category?cat=1005&ns=zno

  • +1

As long as you are logged in to your main Zinio account, you can add as many magazines as you want. Just use ANY email address and your subscription will default to your main account.

  • Wow. Really really good deal!!! I hope the files aren't that big though. Also, is there any way of saving the mags on your comp?

    • The files are saved on your computer when you use the zinio reader. However I am pretty sure that it contacts the zinio server for authentication i.e acquiring/verifying licence etc.

  • nice one!

FYI You dont need to set up a fake address if using Gmail. You can use single Gmail account with multiple email addresses pointing to single email address.

    Here is how:
Let’s say your Gmail email address is: yourusername@ gmail.com
You can use this email address with following combinations:

    eg 1 youruser.name@ gmail.com or
    your.username@ gmail.com
    your.user.name@ gmail.com

Or you can use the + sign like yourusername+1@ gmail.com all info after the + is ignored when Google is allocating which account this should go to. Its a great way of checking where spam comes (although it doesn't stop it)

    Another Multiple Magazine hack:

    1. Pick a mag, and when it says "youre almost there!" enter an email address (like a legitimate one to start with)
    2. It redirects you to the zinio site, asking you to sign up for an account, so again enter a legitimate email and stuff and create an account…
    3. After youve done this, you should have an email telling you it has arrived, and you can log into zinio and view your magazine of choice
    4. After youve done this, go back to the original goreadgreen.com link and choose another mag, but this time, enter some random email address (if you put the same addr as you did for the first time, it will fail), so like for example [email protected], then again it redirects you to zinio site… asking you to create an email for ilikemonkeys
    5. BUT put the email address and password you used for magazine number 1 & hit signin
    6. It will fail, saying "The email address and password you entered don't match any account on record." but thats ok - just click the link under sign in saying "New? Create Zinio Account"
    7. Now at this point, it will just go "Welcome to zinio!" and you can click proceed to my library, where your new magazine will be, alongside your first one
    8. rinse, repeat

    Mexican Playboy ftw!!1

  • You could also just use slopsbox for a temporary disposable email account:
    http://slopsbox.com/

  • I had taken advantage of a similar promotion about 3 years ago with Zinio. With this latest offer I can restock my online library, thx ozpete!

  • Does the magazine get sent to you as a PDF? or do you have to download from a link? Is their a special program viewer required?
    Thanks guys.

    • You need the viewer (~17mb). Then it can automatically download for you all your subscriptions from within the viewer or you can view them "online" which still uses the reader but doesnt download ALL your subscriptions which the other option tends to do. Magazines are roughly 20-30mb i think, and can be read or downloaded 3 times per issue (per month).

  • what happens after one year? do you have to cancel it or does it cancel itself?

    • By then, you've changed your email address to avoid the spam.

Sodding great waste of time here folks. Its not a PDF or anything else sensible.
To read it you have to install their big reader/trojan on Windoze/mac only.

The phrase "Beware Greeks bearing gifts." comes to mind.

    • +1

Maybe - depends on your point of view - Zinio reader is proprietary, and has limited functions. But look at it from the magazines point of view - having PDF's would really open the floodgates on lost sales. So making too convenient is not in their interest. In our case having access to US magazines which are not easy to get is a bonus. However another alternative depending on where you live, is the library - some libraries do subscribe to some of the US magazines - our subscribes to Pop Mech and Pop Sci

As for you trojan inference - do you have any specific info here - if so please share

      • As for you trojan inference - do you have any specific info here - if so please share

Just that its a "free gift", that requires agreeing to install their software inside your
otherwise-secure system. Be aware of the potential.
After Sony installed a root-kit, would you trust somebody you never heard of?

        • +1

Zinio has been around for ages distributing the most popular magazines. They can be trusted.

I wouldn't accuse it of being a trojan/mal-ware if you dont have facts to back it up.

          • -1

@zhenjie: <sigh> I didn't say it was malware. But how many people went to the trouble of researching?
Its the principle of having to totally trust them, when there should be no need.
The internet is full of millions of compromised machines because of all the people
            downloading "free" programs.
If they don't want PDF because its redistributable, why not use Flash like everyone else?
There is no legitimate justification for requiring their own OS-level software install.
Plus, as a Linux user, I resent anything windows-only :-)

            • @freddy: You did call it a trojan, which falls into the umbrella of malware. Zinio generally isn't free, it serves as the software platform for safe distrubution of subscription magazines. Its caters for the majority of readers (yes, Windows and Mac users ARE the majority) and also the publishers who don't want to lose revenue. Zinio gets teh job done so why is that an issue?

Your telling everyone here its a 'sodding great waste of time' just because Zinio doesn't cater for the small Linux demographic. 65+ positive votes already, its certainly not a waste of time in my books. I seriously have no idea why you like to bash these legitimate companies over trivial things….

              • @zhenjie: OK, I meant a waste of my time. But I gave my reasons, so if you use Windows, and are willing to do the research,
and/or accept the risk, then fine. But I'll wager no sane sysadmin would lightly allow this on his network.

            • @freddy: I'm using this on linux, and, man! it's just using flash.
So I guess there is no legitimate justification for requiring an OS-level software install… and none for this comment, either.

  • +1

really, can some1 advise if i can save it as pdf individual files ? thanks.

    • +1

not directly - you can download each page and save via pdf printer options - on mac this is part of the system on windoze, you will need some extra software.

  • great!

  • thanks for this, it's really cool (and working beautifully on my linux box).
I am especially impressed with how the magazines are marked up, so that if you click on an article blurb in the contents, it takes to to that article (which is simple, of course, but represents a lot of time and clear thinking).

  • This is not a bargain at all.
wow free magazines…. these are always free you just go to the website and request there newsletter

    • wow - so how come you haven't shared this before?? Can you provide the URLs for the 200 magazines that are available under this scenario - then we can vote for your better bargain

      • so so sorry i hurt your feelings but i dont LIVE on this site and i thought everyone knew that if you like better homes and garden magazine you can goto the website and sign up for the newsletter. How come i havent shared this before you ask cause its not a BARGAIN plus ive only been a member for 3 days.

        • All I asked which was based on your statement above that you can get ALL these magazines free elsewhere, to share with everyone here how. If you read the other posts many here have given insights into getting more out of this bargain

NOT everyone knows everything thats why this place is here. This is a place to share.

Your opinions are yours and you are welcome to those. Others also can have opinions.

Be nice, this is a community built on people's willingness to be nice to others.

This place has many bargains - a bargain to one is not a bargain to others depending on knowledge, what you have already, where you live and so on.

Finally I cant understand what you are getting at about living on this site.

If you are meaning that I do because I make many posts - check the site out I am a moderator here. BTW you have made a lot of welcome posts and comments here in the few days you have been here, so much so you are the top user here in the past 14 days - so maybe its you who live here - LOL

  • Took a long time to get this to work - seemed like random fiddling around to me - eventually I got it working as described

  • There's so many too choose from!!!
