If the Seagate hasn't changed the drive inside, it is a 7200rpm drive and WD is 5400rpm(or whatever the hell it is).
WD should be run cooler but be slightly slower.
Seagate would be better if you plan on pulling the drive and using it as an internal.
If either one has a longer warranty go with it otherwise as an external there's probably not much difference if they are both USB3Hi, I own the Seagate one so I do say the drive runs a bit hot. But it has a better casing compared to the previous model where quite a few failures had been complained. Just put it on the table and you will be fine(I like to put mine on the bed as I use it with laptop).
They are all very similar. Get the one with that offers longer warranty,

Not to start a war, but can anyone tell me the difference between Western Digital's 3TB Elements VS Seagate's 3TB Expansion Desktop Hard Drive? I got zero results from Google.
Both products are priced the same.
