Samsung Galaxy S III $419+Delivery

611

As Samsung Galaxy S4 release date is just a corner away, the S3 prices cannot be strong any longer. I posted it in case someone might be attracted by that price.

    S4 unveiling tomorrow 11 am

    • As an OzBargainer I was thinking of looking for the best deal on one of those when it came out. As a cheapskate I think I'll stick with the Galaxy Note II knockoff I bought off eBay.

      • +8

        That's not cheapskate that's just poor….

  • " the S4 prices cannot be strong any longer"
I hope you meant to say: S3 prices..

    • +6

I hope he meant to say S4 prices!!!!

this is a very keen price for a S3 phone in my unresearched opinion

  • Indeed very good price.

  • indeed they sell for nearly this price second hand!

    • -2

Not really. Not for 3G. I think I've seen it months ago for below $400 delivered.

      • That might've been the greys outlet deal, that only stocked like 50 phones and sold out in a matter of minutes

        • Well, you snooze you lose I guess. And the two people who downvoted me snoozed.

BTW, the guy I replied to edited his post. He originally said this is the lowest price ever seen. I merely corrected him. Probably gave me a neg too.

  • +1

Great price if you absolutely need one today, but I'd be tempted to wait a little while because, as others have noted, the unveiling of the S4 tomorrow is going to precipitate some price drops in the very near future IMHO. :)

    • +1

You won't be saving very much though, the S2 still around mid $300.

      • Well you'd expect that to drop further as well.

        • They might sell a few more of them then too! ;)

  • This would already be a bad purchase with the nexus 4 now readily available for the same price (a vastly superior phone) and this is only compounded by the fact it's successor will be launched tomorrow so the price can only drop further. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if there were a better deal posted tomorrow.

      Go Nexus!

    • Wait, how is Nexus 4 "vastly superior"?

      • +2

timely updates do show some form of superiority, some android consumers perceive this as vastly advantageous.

        • +3

I guess me and you (and these users you speak of) have very different opinions of what make a "vastly superior phone".

By those standards the Nexus One is vastly superior to the S3 as well?

        • that I am not certain as of yet, say in the coming months Google decides to update N1 to Key Lime Pie together with N4, and Samsung delays their 5.0 update on the S3 till further notice, and there were certain features that android users want from Android 5.0, then in that sense the N1 will still have the upper hand.

        • +2

Fair enough, but by my mind having a few extra software features does not a "vastly superior phone" make… Also he did not say the Nexus 4 may be a "vastly superior phone" in the future, he said it was now (and as of now both phones run JB and have similar specs).

Plus, for those who consider software updates to be the be all and end all of a phone (to the point they would prefer a Nexus One over a S3) why not just update it yourself with CM or the likes?

        • Uh, google stopped providing updates for the Nexus One some time ago. It may get some key lime pie features from the xda community, but definitely not from google

        • Fair enough, my example was wrong (and poorly researched) however my point still stands.

The one technical detail that can make a huge difference in the long run is the 2GB RAM for the Nexus 4 compared just 1GB for the S3.

I currently still use a Nexus S and the lack of RAM (only 512MB) is the main limitation. I actually don't want a bigger or heavier phone and I have not yet encountered any problems with the 8GB inbuilt flash.

Sure, 1GB will be enough now, but I like my hardware to be prepared for the apps 2 years down the track.

        • +1

S3 4G version has 2GB of RAM, so how is N4 better? No micro sd card slot in N4 is a big turn off for a lot of people as you are very limited on how much music/videos you can store. Even N4 16GB version only has about 12GB of user accessible memory….not enough for me sorry.

    • LOL @ "vastly" superior, hahaha

      • Anyone paying 500 odd dollars for an android phone wants to be on the cutting edge, and if the updates aren't timely they're not.

also the nvidia quad core will have more legs for those wanting to hang on to their phone, provided the battery lasts.

maybe vastly is the wrong words, but I would be taking the N4 for less money hands down.

    • Having the latest version also mean beta testing for Google. Just google the many issues with Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 on 4.2+.

Having an expandable SD card, official 3000mah extended battery, durable plastic body, and at least better camera software if not the whole TouchWiz make S3 vastly superior IMO

      • Touchwiz sucks

The intro of the S4 will probably shift the current Samsung market down; the S34G will hang in at the $700 mark, S3 will come down to $550, and S2 will most likely be in runout mode over the next 3-6 months (even though it specs up against today's mid-high market).
A runout S2 will be a good bargain (given it can reliably upgrade to JellyBean), it will most likely be sub$400 at the brick stores.

All depends what you want, the Sony XPeria Z is meant to be a serious challenger to the S4, the iPhone 6 will be a bit of 'more of the same', which is why Apple will continue to lose share.

That's my 2c worth after spending far too much time in the last week looking for a phone that does what I want - nothing is 100% (closest was Xperia P\S, but it's too 'sharp' to hold comfortably). So still looking…

    • "+1" for your 'researched' opinion :b

My dream phone, 5" Full HD, 32GB memory + micro-SD card, good design like HTC One X, replaceable battery + long battery life like Razr MAXX, LTE/4G, 13mp Camera with PureView like capability, 2GB Ram,Super Amoled + screen or S-LCD3 screen, Jelly Bean, Quad-Core S600 processor.

Most phones have some of them, but it will be nice if one phone have all of them.

    • +1

long battery life + replaceable battery + micro sd would be the differentiation features. Hope S4 covers them

  • Better deal here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/96611 - Also 4G option

  • +2

i still love s2 aesthetics, dream upgrade would be same shell, extended screen area with edge to edge, slimmer home button and removal of 'samsung' on top to accommodate the bigger screen estate, slightly thicker back cover to house a 2200mah battery, 2gb ram, better camera processor, slightly larger ext speaker and quad core :)

  • A friend just purchased the GS3 from Kogan last week, $494 total. Can she use the 30 day money back to send it back even if its opened??

    Well worth saving $80!

S4 now announced, expecting S3 to drop below $400… (eventually, maybe, possibly?) :)

  • -2

    Yeah, 4g below 400 and I'll bite.

Just found out that S3 4G has 2GB RAM (vs 1GB RAM for 3G version) but no FM radio…damn, I us FM radio a lot…..and sorry, internet radio is not a substitute as it eats up your data and also takes much longer to change stations. Hmmm, tougher choice now…..does 2GB RAM make much difference to performance?

    • Good point on the FM radio, and just looked at the S4 specs on gsmarena, notes radio for the S4 as "TBA".
I hope they don't start phasing that out…
