Would be fantastic if this was touch screen, but maybe that's asking a bit much for 17" at this price point.

    • are you sure this price is too much? i have been looking at 17.3" laptops for quite some time and would love to see one near this price, i think its a good deal.

however the most striking omission is the lack of Bluetooth, otherwise not a bad deal imho

      • Do people still use Bluetooth?

        • +1

Haha negged for my comment, did I use a bad word? :)

Bluetooth on your phone, gps, car kit yep. Laptop, hardly ever as mice come with bluetooth usb

i think you might be misinterpreting what click_it said. not that the computer price is too much but asking for this to be touch screen at this price is unrealistic.

bluetooth usb is only about $1 on ebay.

oh yes i did! sorry about that, and i read his comment a couple of times before i posted, talk about logic bias, thanks for picking up on that!

      • To be honest, I'm not sure and you could be right. I questioned my post after I left. There has been 15" screen laptops appearing under $500 (i think some imports get closer to $400) with touch screen so there's no real reason why not to expect it in a 17". Though a refurb or lower brand is probably still the best chance I'm thinking. Acer for example shudder, but who knows. Prices are tumbling, that's one thing I do know :)

  • You call a dual core APU a "desktop replacement" ?

If you gotta have a 17" screen for less than $500, maybe this will work for you, but I wouldn't want it to play games. Agreed, this is a low end cpu and a low end gpu. Together they don't even compare to my 4 year old ASUS x83vm (bought as a refurb for $500 in 2009.) Its heavy and battery endurance won't be great with that 48wh battery and 17" screen. I'd guess maybe 90 minutes (not playing games.)
Still, thanks to OP for finding and posting.

      • according to notebook check, the gpu is mid range. anyway im happy to have a notebook that can play diablo, my current one cannot (celeron duo with integrated gpu)

        • Glad to hear it is good for your requirements ;^) Thanks for posting it.

  • Serious claim battery life is 12 hours…
17 inch LED screen nice but comes with 6.2lb = 2.8kg weight. Not a portable laptop you to take with you..
$499 price tag worth to try…

    • If you want a portable laptop then obviously don't buy a 17"… I don't think there are any 17" that are not heavy!

    • This link shows some examples of wattage used in notebooks and desktops.
      http://www.upenn.edu/computing/provider/docs/hardware/poweru…
I don't think any can be directly compared to this one, but it would have to use only 4 watts to give 12 hours on that battery. (My battery monitor software shows my noteboook uses between 20-30 watts doing video playback.)

    • I still use a 14" Inspiron 640m which is 2.8kg, its not cutting edge but its been reliable for 7 years

My cat weighs 8 kilos and you guys have a problem with 2.8kg. Sad.

    • +3

      you carry your cat everywhere?

    • pffft my staffy weighs 20kg, and yes i carry it everywhere :)

      • +1

lol, toys. Try a 38kg Labrador.
