Target is having a sale on the Coleman rechargeable lantern for $15. I just bought one a couple of weeks ago from a camping store for $30 (half price) and thought that was cheap already until I saw Target's price. Catalogue said it's on sale from Thursday but you can buy it online with free pickup or $9 delivery. Great for camping or fishing.

No, get a head-mounted lamp.
This is dim/diffuse, not suited to task lighting.
Someone in the review section said…
"This product shown online wasnt the product that i received. The lantern i received was a cheaper vision"Maybe this explains why it's cheaper? Can someone confirm?
The lantern is bright and battery will last around 10 hrs on one charge. This lantern is not exactly compact (see site for measurements) so I'm not sure whether it'll be suitable for working in tight area.
Damn, specs say "5 x 5mm LEDs" and no lumens quoted.
So this is going to be very dim and inefficient (poor battery life) compared to a lamp with a proper high-power LED like a Cree. Might be suitable for modifying though?64 lumens according to this:
http://www.colemanaustralia.com.au/gear/lighting/electric-li…64 lumens from such a big lantern feels so 2003. :)
Wow, that is tiny for such a big torch.
I should just get a diffuser for the XM-L bike light.
It has a sealed lead acid battery which would need to be kept charged/regularly topped up. Bit of a PITA to remember to maintain it, just for a humble lantern.
The reviews look good here- http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-2000001562-LED-Rechargeable-La…
That's for a different model - 145 lumens.
So, it's this one- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYMITCCVZic&feature=youtube_g…
looks different
water resistant/splash proof? Doesn't look that crash hot from the you tube video.
The one for sale In Target Chatswood does not match the website description. It has a different item number, does not have the 3 levels of brightness as per the website picture and does not include a 12V car charger as per the website Product Features. This might account for the poor online review on the Target website - "This product shown online wasnt the product that i received. The lantern i received was a cheaper vision"
The light output is feeble. I refunded mine immediately.
would it be good for working in the cavity between ceiling and roof ?
