great shopping did this come with the free lifetime map upgrades?

    • +2

Then why don't you? Not a reason to neg a deal.

      O.P. - Good price.

This line must be getting an upgrade soon. I picked up a 820 Live from DSE last week for $120.

It's a bargain, so I think it qualifies.

Each to their own, as possibly a smartphone may be too small to easily use in the car. I prefer to use my dedicated GPS over my Note 2 smartphone, even with it's large screen but fiddly controls, but that's my preference.

          You're*

        • I know of people who have been fined for using their phone while driving, simply for using the GPS.

If someone is selling a product that others are giving away for free that means that there is no saving to be made here

Even IF it was a reasonable comparison you still have to buy a phone to start with, and to compare something even vaguely similar (but not really) TomTom's app is not free.

wow. only crazy people buy GPS? Tomtom must have loonies for clients.

how about expending your own narrow view of the world?

and also instead of wasting time and energy commenting on OZb, how about volunteering in your local charity and do some work instead? (see how I can play that game?)

I personally use my $800 smart phone, but that is not necessarily a cheaper option and is a battery drain. I also know a lot of people who still do not have smart phones who would benefit from this deal. I would look for life time maps if I was buying a stand alone GPS.

I believe this does get the free life time maps…

The article below backs up everything I have already said.

    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2405680,00.asp

    • so you base your view of the world on some pc magazine? lol. good on ya.

hahaha this is one of 100s of articles on this topic.

Read the article,or even google it in car gps sales are at all time lows. But again you would have to read something then form an opinion.

        • Stupid phone, it up voted your comment when I was trying to neg it -.-

        • Wrong.

"Based on the data provided by Garmin, sales are accelerating. In fact, Garmin acknowledged that much in a separate earnings release today, saying that it sold 2.7 million GPS units during the first quarter of 2012, representing a 7 percent increase over the same period last year."

        • would do you good if you actually did some real education and real life experience instead of wasting your life away on magazines for laypersons.(oops.. maybe it's too late.)

your view of the world already shows what is vastly lacking, don't make it any more worse.

    • That was disaster my friend.
Read these for iphone map disaster.

GPS Companies these days are not earning from the units. They will do it by selling the map updates. My S2 comes with Navigon app and I dont like it that much. I have played them side by side with my Tomtom device and phone takes ages to lock GPS and are less responsive. You buy ugly car holders form them for $20-$50.

Also maps on S2 cannot be updated. You have to pay for that. Google maps navigation are fine, but you are paying for the data usage and will be in a fix where there is no network coverage.

GPS sale is definitely draining due to new cars coming with build in GPS ( upper models) and mobile phones. I personally like separate GPS unit.

Who needs tomtom when u have google maps on your iPhone. I sold my TomTom GPS, just not worthit anyone with todays smartphones

Try to travel to the countryside or mountains with your smartphone and zero internet signal

    • +1

You might not need tomtom, but someone else would. to spell it out for you, broad generalisations are stupid and only reflect on your inability to comprehend other's life.

in other words, I don't need you to speak on my behalf whether I need a tomtom or not.

a tomtom runs 4 hours straight on battery only, good luck trying to achieve that in your smartphone.

  • i might be wrong but i am under the impression that while some mobile phones operate on gps they dont store a base map hence you still need to be in range of a tower

    • Some phones do. Most of the Samsung Galaxys come with Navigon maps that are stored on the phone.
