  • with the current exchange rate you will be looking at $185.50AUD

  • Any idea what the internal drive is?
I'd be interested in slapping this in my PC.

    • Mine came with a Hitachi 5400RPM HDS5C4040ALE630 drive. I think it has something to do with the acquisition of the Hitachi brand last year.

    Rep tag necessary?

    • +3

It's not a rep tag, dude.

      • to be fair to joey. i think it was a rep tag initially

  • Great pricing, but after seeing 1/3 of the reviews on Amazon are negative due to design flaw in the connector, I'm a bit skeptical pressing the buy button….anyone who owns one here can comment?

    • +2

yeh, i've got one. Bought it locally. nothing wrong with the connector. It's a pretty good drive for what it is (an external backup drive). Runs quiet and idle temps around 34 degrees. I've heard other brand drives running much hotter and louder. But honestly, hdd reviews are so unreliable. I've never seen one that had overwhelmingly positive reviews. You'd never buy one if you went by reviews

      • Can you confirm inside is 5400rpm only? Thx
My other disk in NAs are 7200rpm :(

        • 5400rpm Hitachi drive inside

  • Comes up as
    Items: AUD 181.11
    Shipping & handling: AUD 13.32
    Order total: AUD 194.43

    • I'm assuming you're using Amazon's built in currency converter?

It's best to pay in USD as it works out cheaper.

      • +1

It's best to pay in AUD, as if you pay in USD they will charge to your card a "currency conversion" rate.

        • +2

True unless you use a 28 Degrees Mastercard.

  • It's probably better to buy a normal 3TB HDD for $138 in a Brisbane Shop and then slap it into an external case if you need it as an external drive. Works out about the same as this deal anyway.

    • +1

a 3TB drive from brisbane works out to be the same at a 4TB drive from amazon?

      • +1

3TB at $138 is $46 per TB and this 'Deal' with Amazon is $194.43 for 4TB which equates to $48.60 per TB. So yeah Tal_Shiar, a 3TB in Brisbane is cheaper per TB.

        • How much is the external case?

        • +2

I would recommend getting a HDD dock which is more practical as it can also connect via eSata, USB and take 2.5" and 3.5" HDD's. There is a USB 3 Dock available for $35 (Shintaro Blazer Docker USB3.0 2.5/ 3.5 SATA HDD Dock) which can take the 4TB HDD. This one is also Hot-Swap. Otherwise normal HDD Enclosures for 3.5" HDD can be bought for around $12 or so.

        • if you have a NAS with limited bay of course $2 differences for every TB make you go for the bigger one.
@logical=if you add $12 enclosure price i think 4tb option is better

His ID is misleading and deceptive.

This is a great price, but be careful, as data recovery for these MyBook series isn't easy. Many Google results have shown that it's extremely difficult, which is why I stuck with WD's Elements version instead. I'm just playing it safe. :)

  • so this international warranty, the cost to send back unit (from owner) is paid by owner or by manufacturer?

    • owner

    • Nope. For local WD purchases you have to send it back to Singapore and pay the cost of shipping (they pay return cost).
