Could you post the advert from the email please :)

  • Is this pickup only?
    Is there a shipping cost?

  • I got the email too - it doesn't mention codes or start times (for online), just that it's down to $10 for the day. Also on sale is the HP Pavillion-15-B010TX, down to $599.

I have one of these, and I can't recommend it. The design of the retract mechanism is poor.

Basically the unit has two parts, the blue inner which contains the electronics, and a white sleeve around it. There is a mechanism rather like the pushbutton on a retractable ball-point pen, between the two parts.

If you want your unit to last, make sure you NEVER hold the white part while inserting into a USB socket. If you do that more than a couple of times, the retract mechanism will break. Only ever press on the blue part while inserting the drive.

When removing the drive, you really have no choice but to pull on the white sleeve, there simply isn't enough of the blue bit to grab. Pulling on the sleeve releases the retract mechanism, so once you get the drive out of the USB socket, the blue part will pop backwards, and the USB connector will be inside the white sleeve.

I have been careful and not broken mine yet, but a number of other people have.

I've been rough with mine for a long time and never had any issues.

        That's what she said.

        • You must know some butch women.

    • +4

I bought one a year ago for $30,
and the mechanism has broken after one month use,
but it doesnt make much trouble, i m still using it well.

      • +3

Same here. I got the 32gb version last time they had the sale. The mechanism failed within a month but you can still work around it.

      • +1

Mine broke after 3 months use. The spring mechanism is really poor. I've been trying to find a way to get rid of the stupid casing totally or else you cannot use it properly.

        • I just found the sleeve to be poor design so I took out the spring and just use the blue section to plug it in, works well!

        • really? How did you take the spring out? whats the trick to do that?

  • Why do the MSY newsletters never render for me?

    • +5

Probably the same person designs their easy to use and navigate website /end sarcasm

    • knowing MSY they are probably optimised for viewing with IE7

    • It will be you adblocker.
Well, I have to turn off Adblock+ in Firefox to see the ad. The images are in a directory called /adbanner/*, which is in Adblock+'s EasyList filter list.

You could just get the 16gb sandisk flash drives from Officeworks for $9.95 not much of a deal here.

    • +4

      Is it usb 3.0 tho?

    • +3

Regular sandisks run VERY slowly. If you want speed, go for sandisk extreme … You won't get that for $10 at officeworks.

The sandisk extreme is about twice as fast as the Patriot, if not more… But … For the price, this is very good!

I tried my wife's Lexar 8gb (the Big W special from a few weeks back. It was about 30x slower than the sandisk extreme. The Lexar is an average performer, so make sure you check your specs before buying!!!

  • +2

Neat price… But I really dislike MSY so I will probably pass

  • +1

Don't forget these are slooooooooow. The model above this (XT) barely hits 35MB/s write for a 32GB stick. You'd be lucky if this hits 15MB/s. No wonder its going cheap.

    • +1

      That's usb2 performance!

  • I have one of these, it's quite good. Want to get a couple more but it's still $20?

  • I wish Patriot would make the Lifestyle Swing in USB3.

  • If you can't see the newsletter turn off adblock!

  • "Tomorrow" huh. Probably be gone by the time I get out of bed and turn computer on- such is life.

  • Checkout isn't working for me, anyone else?

  • Never mind, it's working on Firefox but not on IE for some reason, probably just me. :)

  • I wish they stock back the magnum :(

    • +1

      They sell ice cream too???

    • I know … i placed an order this morning and got an email reply at 8:42am for the Ultimo store saying wait for confirmation … just got an email saying they are sold out … Typical DODGY MSY … Has anyone been able to get one???

  • I placed an order for 2 pickup (VIC) and it said 'in stock' waiting for confirmation email. I hope this works on my samsung tv for timeshift recording

    Benchedmarked Mine with

    http://usbflashspeed.com/
It tops out at 75MB/s Read
But doesn't go past 9.5MB/s Write

    MyPatriot Rage XT (USB 2)
    Scores a solids (20MB/s+ write

  • following on with sonicentropy. i bought 3 of these at msy holden hill today. Did the tests. Older version which says for windows 7 has faster write speeds up around 20mb/s the newer one which says for windows 8 has faster read speeds but slower write as sonicentropy has stated.

  • Just bought 2 at MSY in South Hurstville. They had 3 left when I was there.

  • Here it is dudes comes in num 20 whoRatesit.com ;

    20.) Patriot Supersonic Xpress
    MODEL PSF16GXPUSB RELEASED JUL '11 - SPECIFIED READ/WRITE SPEEDS 50/20 MB/S

The Supersonic Xpress has a great physical form, the innovative retractable
design features a spring loaded back which snaps into place very satisfyingly,
it's tempting to pop it in and out for no particular reason. In terms of performance
the Xpress is below average accross the board with the exception of an outstandingly
high 4K read score of 14.2 MB/s. From a value perspective this drive is near the
bottom of the pack, it has below average performance and is currently retailing at
     an above average price.

    Value Rating 4.3

Now comparing against my sandisk supreme's scorecard,

    1.) SanDisk Extreme

This drive is currently the best value flash drive on the market by a long way.

Number 1, everytime. but u get whats you pays for I guess uh-huh.

    Value Rating 9.6

Although of the junk I see posted, 10 dollar could be the lowest so far, so we shall raise a glass (+1).
