Nice deal! Fire up your price match machine for JB with $10 Perks or OW

    • Thanks. Price beat at OW and the price is $16.15.

    • Is it okay to sign up with a new email address for JB perks if already used one previously.

  • Nice deal op,
Say you have a flash drive in your pocket and it rains heavily and gets wet can it do damage to the drive?

    • +14

I think generally it'd be fine if it's not submerged, just make sure it's not plugged in until it's completely dried out. I've sent USBs through the washing machine more times than I'd like to admit

      • -2

        I c thanks

Does this apply to laptops aswell?

Also any truth to the putting wet electronics into a container of rice

        • +6

Not sure a laptop would survive the washing machine

Generally electronics are fine in fresh water for a small amount of time as long as they're not powered on, saltwater is a different story though. The thing about the rice is that it's there to pull the water out of the electronics, it will happen over time naturally anyway just through evaporation but the rice is supposed to speed it up or something. Just don't power anything on that's wet because that'll create a short circuit and kill it

          • +9

@AngryAlfred: Silica gel works way better and is safer than using rice. Rice can leave behind starch dust or grains that might get into the ports and cause trouble. You're better off letting your laptop dry out in a well-ventilated spot, like near an open window or a fan, instead of sealing it in a container (which most people do). Remember, rice is for dinner, not drying

          • @AngryAlfred: Thanks for the tip!

        • +2

Generally laptops, because they have a built in battery, will continue to be powered. This means that they can get damaged very quickly.

Rice may speed up the drying process for stuff, but something like silica gel works a lot better. If you are running into situations where you have to dry things out a lot. Might be a move to get some kind of drying box that contains silica gel or similar.

        • +1

Putting wet electronics in a container of rice to save your mobile from water damage is a commonly held myth. It actually can do more damage because it's slower drying than rice (speed is the key) AND small rice grains can get stuck in the holes in your mobile (charging port/ USBC port, headphone jack, causing more damage etc.

          • +1

            @davebern: I c thanks

Btw i think there is a lot of misinformation on the net

H0w does one usually know if google searches are accurate or false btw

    • +2

I accidentally put in the washing machine and left it dry under the hot sun and it still works afterward.

      • I c thanks, nice

      • +1

These drives are packaged similar to a microSD card - everything is enclosed within plastic so the chip itself is waterproof. As long as connector pins are not corroded or shorted they'll survive a washing machine just fine.

        • I doubt most USB drives are waterproof. The cover is usually just snapped on. I'm pretty sure my old rugged 4GB drive is water proof.

    • +4

Don't count on the lucky cases mentioned here. It is like the IP rating of the iphone - yes, it will survive rain and short submerge, but not if the device is not new, or the water contained some chemicals, or it was soaking for hours, or… Consider USB stick as a box that is strong if its solid, but if there's a little hole it will be screwed. And don't even think that laptops are anywhere near in endurance, even if they claim spiil-proof etc. I've seen what happens inside, you don't want that.

      • Thanks i have always been very cateous about wet, just wanted to find out as i always wondered about it. I try to avoid as mucj as possible

  • Wow, had this in my Officeworks cart yesterday at $45 or something and didn't check out… Kmart here I come

    • OW price beat? Could actually get it cheaper than Kmart price…

      • 40km farther or wait for delivery vs pickup today though

    • -2

Hrmmm do I need 3 for $41 delivered though? (Use the $10 newsletter voucher)

      • +1

grab it for 7$ with perks lol

        • +1

Too much hassle. I'd have to go into store 😂

Bought 3. Can always find a use for them

          • @0 0 0: Shipping is 6$. Save urself .66$ xD

I have the metal-body version of this disk and mainly use it with iPhone 15 PM and PC. Works well but the body can be hot during large file transfers. Not quite sure about the plastic body but would assume the heat dissipation can be not as good as the metal body.

    • +7

I actually have both the older metal and newer plastic one: I am very surprised the plastic one does not at all get hot like the metal one, even under sustained read/write loads. Maybe they've used a more efficient/smaller process node on these plastic ones so they don't run as hot as the old chips?

Speeds are also faster; 130Mb/s, then drops to 50Mb/s for the plastic drive while the metal one was about 60Mb/s down to 25Mb/s (though it was 32Gb, so maybe the capacity limits the controller throughput).

    • Can you transfer photos off an iPhone 15 onto a USB stick. And you don’t have to go through iTunes or the new devices app.? And is it also for files, say notes?

  • +2

Local office works doesn't want to price beat
They said it's too much discount, but mainly that Kmart doesn't list the same 'model number' on the website
I couldn't see it on the page either, but everything else is exactly identical

      • They do that in Elizabeth st Melbourne store

    • +1

The model number is listed as "SDDDC3 - 128GB" on the Kmart website, and it is exactly the same as the Product Code: SDDDC3128 which is listed on the OW website.

    • its in the title of the product webpage on kmart

    • That is unlucky, but not unusual.
I got a price beat on Monday - asked if they would match Amazon. I was surprised when they said "Yes" - OW sell at $45.
I had taken a 16GB one to the desk expecting to just by that (at $17!).

    • Tried to price beat over the phone with OW, they also mentioned model number doesnt match or something like that and said nope.
Went into my local OW store and asked to price beat, the staff were extremely sus about the price difference but eventually agreed 😅 $16.15

FWIW I have this drive (not sure of size) and have it on a keychain with work ID and fling it around all day plug into Mac/windows/iPhone, treat it like trash shove in/out my bag, pull it out without safety eject if I’m in a rush, drenched it in coffee and hand sanitizer, regularly use it as a fidget spinner and it’s never had any issues. I was worried at first given its kinda exposed on the USB part but it’s been great honestly surprised the spiny hinge bit has held up given the abuse. Does get a bit warm sometimes when in use for a while and I predominantly use it for light file transfers so might struggle a bit if you’re frequently transferring larger files.

  • cheers op, bought one for c&c

  • +2

Is this the benchmark for this drive? https://ssd-tester.com.au/sandisk_ultra_dual_drive_go_128gb.…
if so just note its not a performer.

    • diff model i think

      • Looks like same model

    • I got one the other day - took about 10mins to transfer ~50GB of video files using the USB C end.
It's an improvement on the USB A pen drives and hard drives I used up til now.

  • +1

Anyone know what is its write speed? I find many Sandisk Ultra flashdrives have fast read speed but slow write speed.

    • +1

      Switchblade88's comment above

I bought from Amazon just after new years and here's my CrystalDiskMark results:

      TLDR:
      Sequential:
      340MB read
      140MB write

      • +4

Thanks for you CrystalDiskMark result. Sequential speeds are good but as expected random small file write speed is slow. To have faster random small file write speed you need to spend more for more expensive Extreme Pro models.

Finally a use for one pass delivery after nearly a year

  • +2

good deal. I bought one recently from jb when it was $22 and thoguht that that was already a decent price.

    $17 is a great buy,

  • +1

I bought the 256gb yesterday. Missed this one. This thing is a gem get it

  • +2

Thanks. Price matched at my JB and had a perks voucher. Paid $7

  • No problems with Officeworks price beat over the phone. Hardly worth it for the saving of 85 cents per item but next day delivery is nice.

  • What do they normally cost

    • $44 at jb

  • +1

Thanks OP had to ask the service desk at Kmart to get them, they don't keep these bad boys on the shelves.

    • +1

No worries, finding anything in Kmart,Target, Supermarkets is rocket science these days anyway, so i did click and collect.
only want it for music in my car and was looking for 64GB when i saw this one. win win

  • +1

Thanks OP, bought 2. Still got a sporadic mix of USB C and A on my devices and never seem to be able to find a USB of either type when I need them.

  • +1

Got metal one for one year, but dead, just went to OW and price beat, hope last longer. Look at SanDisk store on Amazon, cost $23 for the metal dual drive 128gb, so the $17 is reasonable on kmart

    • Isn’t that it comes with 5 years warranty. Did you claim warranty for the dead one?

      • No, didn't claim warranty

  • Thanks!

  • My website shopping cart now says "Out of stock online" for this item.
It may have just been for the local store I'd chosen for click & collect.

  • I've owned one of these for a while and it's cracked, not that I dropped or forcefully damaged it.

  • I was just looking for a USB drive, thanks OP
Grabbed one from Officeworks with price match

  • Thanks Op. got it price matched at jb hifi and used the perks. So final price is $7!

    • How do I check if I have a $10 perks coupon please? I can't find anything in my email.

  • +1

Picked up this for $7 using JB perks offer.

Has anyone been able to connect it to the SanDisk memory zone app, I have 15 pro. It registered in the files app though. I would love to back up my photos using the app preferably as ui looks easy to use.

  • Probably not but can you plug this into iPhone 16 plus and attach pics from your phone to this?

    • Transferred 250 photos from photos app to the files app which had the usb plugged in, only took 2 mins for it to load. This the way you download photos to the drive.

      • Is that a reply to my question?

        • To answer your question, for iPhone users you have to download the images off the phone into the files app and then transfer onto the usb drive. Hope that answers your question.

  • +1

for some reason when I check out the price jump to $25 :(
is there a bug or I missing something?

    • I can see the 64 is $17. I presume yesterday was price error

      • now still showing $17,but when you about to pay the price goes to $25

    • because it goes to the Kmart page.
use the Target Link, itll display for $17.

then use JB to price match it. chances are your local Target has sold out.

  • +1

Price changes to $25 once in Cart

    • use the Target Link.

  • +2

    Price now $25

    • Use the Target Link

  • I am waiting for the new ‘sandisk’ logo to buy 🙃

  • +1

I remember in 2004, on the first day of the school year, our school principal pulled out a 64mb USB stick at school assembly and said: this is equivalent to 100 floppy disks. This is the future!

We were all mind blown then. Now we have 2TB USB sticks!

    • You must have had old equipment at your school (like most schools).
Your head master could have pulled out a CD-RW seven years earlier and stated it is the equivalent to 500 floppy disks (573).
Or four years earlier, pulled out a DVD-RW and claimed it holds nearly 4,000 floppy disks (3,852).

  • I'm getting $25 for Kmart…

    • $17 at Target…

  • +2

Still $17 at Target this morning. Just did online price match with Jb Hifi so that I can use my gift card.

  • +2

    https://www.target.com.au/p/sandisk-ultra-dual-drive-go-usb-…

$17 at target. Price matched at JB Hi-Fi, used $10 perks coupon and paid $7,,

dont click the OP link it goes to Kmart.

the OP description has the target link for $17

    Also Note varying speeds:
[128GB-1TB] Read speeds up to 400MB/s. [64GB] Read speeds up to 300MB/s. [32GB] Read speeds up to 150MB/s. Write speed lower and vary by capacity. USB Type-C port with USB 3.2 Gen 1/ USB 3.1 Gen 1/ USB 3.0 support required.

  • Just got the "We're sorry, all item(s) are unavailable" email from Kmart and a refund. No stock.

  • All 3 shipped from target in 3 separate deliveries.

  • Thanks, was able to get JB-HIFI to price match Target in the online chat (good because the closest Target is like 2hr drive away). Unfortunately forgot to tell the rep I wanted two, still a win tho. Kmart just says $25.

  • Woo hoo cheers! Price matched via JB Hifi online chat! Gonna go pick them both up now!

  • How reliable are these? Would it be a bad idea to save family photos and videos to these, if not backed up elsewhere?

    • +1

You always need to back up elsewhere.

      Always.

It doesn't matter what you are using as storage.

  • Anyone else able to provide read/write speeds from CrystalDiskMark?

    • FalseProfit already posted his score earlier.

  • I got JB to price match this yesterday by giving them the Target store link and they agreed, honestly wasn't expecting them to as on the Target website there was limited stock.
