bought/found cheap wire mesh basket for bike handlebar at Kmart stanhope village(NSW).
its a clearance item so not sure when its starts and when it ends. Usual price is about $12 i believe. Not sure if this is specific to this shop. About 10-15 left on display.

These are also on special in my local Kmart in North Rocks, Sydney. There's heaps of other bicycle-related items on clearance as well (grips, tyres, tubes, pumps, etc).
But yes, they are pretty uncool looking.

If you are going to be that uncool, you may as well go all the way and use a plastic veggie crate. (or coke/milk/bread crate)
