This camera is a good 10 megapixel point and shoot.
$199 is a steal….

gozh,,,, very cheap for CANON.. but bit heavy i think.
Great deal - I bought the IXUS70 which is the same thing (except mine has 7.1MP sensor and no OIS) for $199 which was below cost at the time.
In my opinion, best point and shoot camera in the price range and size. The D!G!C III image processor is second to none. For the adventurous you can even add features to the camera - check out http://lifehacker.com/387380/turn-your-point+and+shoot-into-…
This is the actual download page for the CHDK program/firmware. http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK
Only thing is, the IXUS85 isnt listed as being compatible …. yet.
ixus series are pretty good for p&s, i vouch +1 !!!
ixus 90 is good and has IS, however, they have ackward menu button, so ixus85 is a good option
OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES
- Battery Charger CB-2LYE
- Battery Pack NB-6L
- AC Power Adapter Kit ACK-DC10
- High-Power Flash HF-DC1
- Waterproof Case WPDC23
Am I reading wrong?
Would be good to confirm if the Standard Battery and Charger are included.
Hey what is IS?
I think it's Image Stabilizer
According to www.dpreview.com the IXUS 85 has image stabilisation as does the Ixus 90 as does the IXUS 80
great! i've been waiting to upgrade from my older ixus 55 to something that's pretty much the same size/weight but with IS, higher ISO and face detection. took this price to the unionshopper and they came back wtih a cash price of $194 or $2 more to pay by VISA. not much of a saving but still a few bucks extra :)
Union shopper sounds good - I assume you have to be a paid member of a union to buy through them?
Do you buy off them directly or do they send you to a store?
yes, or know someone who is :) (ie get them to order/buy for you). union shopper will source prices from a network of retailers, and tell you if they can beat your best price. if so, they pass your contact details onto the actual store who then contact you and tell you where to go (ie you don't find out who is supplying the goods until the store contacts you). service is pretty quick… i entered a quote request online yesterday afternoon, got a call this morning with a cheaper price and the store rang me about two hours later. you usually get bigger savings on whitegoods and other electricals - this is the second camera i bought using unionshopper - the last time i would've saved no more than $10.
the other thing you could do is ring photo continental and ask if they'll match competitor's prices. my ixus 55 was done this way - i quoted a price (using an interstate online shop, including postage to QLD), which was about $100 less than PC's retail price. they beat that by about $5-10, so i said bring it on!
hmm… looks like the offer isn't available anymore - it's no longer showing on computer alliance's website.
i picked one up this arvo, does anyone know if it was only the silver colour? or did they have both colours? i forgot to ask
it was only silver, and they are all sold now
I have the model before this one. It is a great camera for those that want point and shoot digital solutions. If you're looking for a decent digital camera for general photography - this is a good start.
