  • The specs look reasonable given the price, especially for a 1500W sine wave inverter.

As this was posted by a store rep, I'm curious about a few things:
    1. is it true sine wave output, or a modified square/sine wave? It's important for some electronic equipment.
    2. the website product page doesn't specify the warranty - should I presume it's just a std 12 months?
    3. where is the unit manufactured?

    Thanks.

  • is this worth getting?

  • +1

1500W is quite large - only issue is how strong your battery is with this current draw, although you would need to be using an appliance that uses all the wattage. Considering 300 Watt units cost around $70 and Jaycar has a modified sinewave unit, abeit a little more powerful (1500/3500) at $529 —- this is a great price

as quoted this is a modified sinewave unit

"You get the 1500 W Modified Sine Wave Inverter in a gift box plus the following items…"

    • Yep, you're right. I did the same check with Jaycar, and in fact the inverter you've mentioned:
      http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=MI5114&CATID=8&k…
is currently on special for $476.

Nevertheless, the one listed here is significantly cheaper. So it's +1 from me for that I guess.

And thanks for pointing out the 'modified sine wave' bit. It wasn't that obvious the first (or second time) that I read through the description! Maybe it's just me :P

Anyway I wouldn't want to run a full 1500W device through this inverter while powered from a 12V cigarette lighter socket though! I hope the included manual actually advises against that, and recommends that the heavy duty cables (connected directly to the battery) are used instead.

      • Yea I know bout the reading two times bit. - believe me its not just you. LOL

Agree about the higher wattage use. The lighter plug would be able to produce its own smoke without the cigarette.

Not sure if manual recommends it - maybe choppy can advise, but looking at the CS website it shows that these cables are included with the unit.

      • With 100A + drawn, the "slow" fuse on the car's lighter circuit would blow very quickly indeed…

Output Wave Form: Modified Sine Wave

    Warranty: 12 month replacement

    Manufactured : Shenzhen, China

    • Thanks for answering my original questions Choppy.

For the features and specs, I think this is not a bad deal for the price being asked. Used wisely (note the various comments about when to use the heavy duty connections versus when the cigarette lighter plug can be used), this could prove to be a useful addition to anyone who needs an alternative 240V power source where there isn't any mains supply readily available.

The C-tick approval and built-in mains socket for Australia is a nice touch.

  • "Agree about the higher wattage use. The lighter plug would be able to produce its own smoke without the cigarette."

Yes you are correct for most small appliances like a laptop, small Tv, that run on 150-300watts would be OK via the cigarette adaptor. For high
wattage items like fridge, power tools etc it would be advisable to use the clamps. It has internal protection built in and if there isn't enough power supplied by the power source it will shut itself off. Most inverters are built this way now.

  • Seems value for money as long as it doesn't explode or such, everything is made in China nowadays anyway so here's the 5th vote for the mainpage ;o)p

  • Explode? The unit has a c-tick and has been passed for the Australian market

  • Is that C for C4 or…? ;o)p
