Even lesser spec'd Windows Phones tend to have silky smooth performance. I've also heard that the less RAM a device has, the better its battery life. Having said that, Windows phones seem to have battery issues. In particular, the HTC 8S battery isn't removable, and it is rated at only 1700mAh.
Not really, I'd say the prices are quite similar.
The specs might not look as impressive as those of an Android phone of the same price however if you were to compare the two, I have no doubt the Windows Phone will come out on top in terms of overall responsiveness.
For example, my OMNIA 7 which is running Windows Phone 7.5 to this day is still running incredibly well. No signs of lag or stuttering despite having hardware from 2008 - the Snapdragon S1. Compared to my Nexus S which has a more powerful Hummingbird processor as well as a custom ROM and kernel, my OMNIA 7 still hands down beats it in terms of responsiveness and general performance.
^ what he said.
Been using an Omnia 7 for almost two years and it's still going strong. Compared it to a Desire HD and Incredible S which both have newer Snapdragon S2, more RAM, and custom ROMs. My Omnia 7 still was much more enjoyable to use; very fast, responsive, and fluid.
Microsoft set strict standards for performance so there's a consistent experience and minimum expectation for all handsets. The Lumia 610 is a fine handset for $179 with $30 Telstra credit from AusPost and comes with Nokia Drive, so free offline mapping for dozens of countries worldwide.
Lumias also come with Nokia Music = free music streaming.
do you really trust Microsoft's antivirus if they have one?
not bad for initial release price
but for similar pricing, it is possible to get the Nokia Lumia 620 which has better software,a bit smaller in screen size 3.8in (higher PPi), but bigger Storage (8GB), excellent Nokia only software, steaming music service, AR GPS attraction app, better GPS software
a more durable design, removable casing and battery (but only 13xx i think)…
I would wait for 620 to come out and see how they compete in price first
Windows phone first and second party softwares are great, OS very smooth and simple to use
You can already find grey imports for around $250 before delivery.
There is a review of it here which may be of interest: http://delimiter.com.au/2013/01/29/htc-windows-phone-8s-revi…
4GB 512Mb RAM
4.5GB ram? O_O
Yeah I'm thinking that with these slow ass processors and low RAM but "silky smooth" peformance these Windows phones should also be able to turn 4GB of storage into 40GB's
I've also heard that I won't get sued if I buy one and its using the technology that powers Android
And this, is why we can't have nice things…
Wha's the chance of unlocking the phone?
You can get the unlocked one with code WP8SJAN9 here (Aus stock, $285+$13.80 for shipping)

Are Windows phones much more expensive than Android ones? For an Android one, those would be terrible specs for the price.
