    Hell..its about time!

    • +1

      Obsolete now.

      • +1

Yep. The S4 Pro chipset is out and very soon 8 core Exynos CPU. Google FUBAR'ed the release (as usual). Phone has completely lost its shine really at this price.

      • What's obsolete about it?

        • +3

Screen res for one, storage for another. Also we are starting to see manufacturers adopt microSD again - yeehar. Got my eye on the Xperia Z. Its like what the Nexus should have been.

        • Storage can be a let down. Screen res isn't the best(right now only 1 phone has a higher res), but far from obsolete.

        • +2

Yep, Xperia Z FTW! and it doubles as an under water camera too!

        • It lacks 4G

        • +3

Well, nothing. But it's fashionable to say it.

        • -1

          Its not a flagship

        • Its not a flagship

The whole Nexus series is Google's flagship…

        • +1

The whole Nexus series is Google's flagship…

          What's their non flagship range?

        • @Mathew42
Just like most of the country.

  • +6

Before anyone complains about Google Play being cheaper - they haven't had any stock since the launch of this product and Google subsidies the price of the Nexus 4 bought from their online store, as seen with LG charging 599 euros in Italy. This is cheaper than Kogan or Mobicity, and if Google Play starts offering stock for the first time since day 1, then you can start complaining.

    • +5

Emm… but do we really based a good deal on stock availability? I mean, you 'could' have it from Google Play for less than that. Unless you really want to have it now then it is different story.

      • +4

The 8GB Nexus 4 sold out in a hour, the 16GB a bit after that. It has never returned in stock. This is akin to a Catchoftheday deal, but at least Catchoftheday gave everyone notification when it would start.

        • Oh so do you really believe that google will not sell their own phone again?

        • They haven't in a couple of months. I don't know what to believe, especially since LG has been selling stock to Kogan and Mobicity, and they have always been available, albeit at $500+ prices.

        • +2

LG have confirmed that they "will ramp up (production), and that hopefully "market strain" will be gone by February." and that the nexus 4 will be sold at a "reasonable price" i.e $400(excluding del) for the 16gb

          http://www.theverge.com/2013/1/21/3899550/lg-france-says-nex…

  • marked up from googles price?

  • How is Google Play with handling returns/repairs?

I do really want this phone, and am willing to wait another month or two for Google to have it in stock, it would be cheaper for sure, but are they quick and reliable should the phone be faulty?

I've had a few HD's break from HN and it was very simply to get a replacement. Just wondering how Google would be in comparison.

    • +1

Few customers on whirlpool have said they will send you a replacement Nexus 4, put the price of it on your credit card on hold while waiting for you to post back the defected phone. So you won't be with your phone at all.

  • +1

will Nexus 4 return to Google Play Store in February?

    • Probably haha, nah who knows.

    • +1

      Mid feb

  • -6

Why is this a bargain ? Its simular prices elsewhere (even a bit lower at some).

    http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/computers/blogs/gadgets-o…

    Says RRP is $399

    • No stores mentioned though…

    • Did you check those sites mentioned in the article? Currently only the grey importer sells them and even then still more expensive than HN.

Google Store is much cheaper but stock was finished from Day 1 of release.

    • +18

Gerry's special deal for professionals — only $97 above RRP.

  • +7

I'd rather wait for play store. Besides, this isn't in any way a bargain. Just because item is scarce, there's nothing special about the price

  • +14

Sorry I fail to see how above RRP can constitute a deal. Taking advantage of supply and demand, no deal.

    • -4

The RRP isn't really an RRP. The RRP is only available at a store who has never had stock beyond the first few hours of sale. The term Regular Retail Price isn't applicable here because you won't be able to find that price at any retail store. The true RRP, as seen in other countries, is roughly around 599 euros.

      • +7

We are in Australia though so the true RRP should come from the phone's main supplier, google AU right?

        • -2

When Google has a retail store, then yes. Nexus 4s were only available from Google for a few hours, you can pretty much equate Google Play to a one off deal that has never happened again. Granted, they say they might have stock pretty soon so I guess you can wait it out?

        • +6

The fact that HN are getting stock only goes to indicate that the play store will have stock around the same time. Stock was also short on the N7 for a while.

I for one am going to take google as the price setter for our market, not some store in another country that doesn't sell the phone in Australia.

        • You mean LG, the company manufacturing the phone? I'm not saying this is a good deal, but it doesn't deserved to be negged, especially when it's the cheapest we've seen in comparison to Kogan and Mobicity.

        • +1

They might be manufacturing the phone but its Google's Nexus name that is primarily on the device. You might struggle to find the LG brand on the webpage https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_4_16g…

Also we haven't seen the phone at this price yet, who's to say that they won't sell out within five minutes and that Google won't have stock at the same time?

        • +2

But it's not available now. In my opinion, this thread should be deleted by mods based on the fact it's not available now.
You're buying the promise of a phone in a week's time, by which stage, Google Play MAY have stock at $100 less, in which case this deal is not a bargain.
If, on the other hand, Google Play still have no stock come Feb 1 AND HN do actually have stock, then, fair enough, it's the cheapest you can buy the phone at that point in time, and might be considered a bargain.

      • +3

It might be 599 Euros today. But come February 1? The stock constraints will end sooner or later. The fact that HN has got some stock seems to suggest it will be sooner rather than later.

      • RRP = Recommended Retail Price NOT Regular Retail Price ie it's the price the manufacturer recommends the price be sold at in store. Usually stores sell at below RRP so they can say its on special/bargain whatever.

      • RRP = Recommended Retail price, not Regular.

    • +1

Exactly. Nice try gerry. This is overpriced and hence not a bargain.

    • RRP in general does not normally constitute a deal. You can get it pretty much the same as a grey import. The lack of stock does not make it a deal as much as a "nice to know something can be bought, albeit at a higher price".

  • +10

At this price - i would go for the S3 ($500 aswell).

  • +3

The price seems a bit too much…

I mean $449 would be more reasonable price

    • -2

A bargain is not negged based on what you THINK the price should be, it's whether it's a bargain compared with the normal selling price at other retailers.

If you have examples where it is priced at $449 at other retailers, please share them…

      • +5

I negged cuz it is way above the RRP
        That speaks for itself

Almost $100 mark up due to a supply shortage does not justify anything

if you think this is a deal just + it
don't tell me what to do

        • Fair enough, it looked like you just "thought" it should be cheaper…

Either way, it's not in stock anywhere, so it's a bit of a moot point\post.

  • +5

I reckon you could try price match with Google.

    • nope can only price match when an item is is in stock.

  • +7

Not a deal, regardless of stock level's. Its BS

  • +7

At that price you might as well go for an S3, the make or break point of the Nexus 4 was it's price point.

    • True it does make the Nexus 4 less appealing. Depends what you prefer. S3 has removable battery and microsd slot. Nexus 4 has direct updates, no touchwiz, solid premium feel. Also it just feels a little bit more smoother than other jellybean devices(could be since it's on Android 4.2.1)

      • are you sure the battery of Nexus 4 is not removable?

        • +2

          Yea, I got one.

        • it is not removable

        • How much did you pay for it?

        • @wicket1120

I paid $420($400 + $20 delivery fee) from Google Play.

      • +3

Actually some places are selling the s3 for $468 which is much cheaper. So this makes it even worse of a deal compared to s3

        • You comparing it to grey import?

    • S3 also has that AMOLED screen, and a lot of people hate the cartoony colours.

  • Hmm, if I'm not mistaken there's around a $20 shipping fee on the Play Store, so the 16GB model there is actually about $420 when shipping is taken into account. So we're talking an $80 premium and who knows, perhaps between now and Feb 1 JB Hi-Fi or another player might step in and offer something a little cheaper than HN.

I dunno, if stock continues to look unlikely on the Play Store and I can pick it up easily at HN or JB for a premium, I might consider it.

  • Dont forget play store delivery is around $20. So $419 from play store + 3-5 day wait. (not that the wait should be an issue …i mean you've been waiting all this time already)
$77 difference is 'not bad', but then this IS ozbargain.

    • is play store price GST inclusive?

      • +1

There is no extra charge and I think we pay the GST but tbh I don't recall getting a tax receipt with my N7 from google.

        • Thx, that's bad news because we cannot claim refund if travel overseas.

        • +1

I get a tax receipt for my Nexus 10, from Google S'pore, they still charge 10% GST though, and not S'pore GST of 7%. I try to claim back GST when I depart Brisbane but can't get the GST refund as the invoice is issued by a company in S'pore, althought the 10% GST is quite clear.

        • +1

To clarify, I bought this from google playstore Australia.

        • Was there an ABN on the invoice?

      • All prices are GST inclusive according to the website. Just the delivery to add on

  • +2

Not a bargain. LG says that production backlog will be gone 'by February' anyway.

  • Really surprised by the positives on this one tbh

    Very expensive

    • +1

I wouldn't say it's very expensive, it is after all a decent phone. Just not an Oz"bargain" as such.

      • +1

Yeah not terrible enough to neg, just can't see buying this over a S3 / Note 2 for a little more

  • +1

Paying $97 more than RRP? No thanks. This is poor form for HN and shame on Google for doing a paper launch of their flagship Nexus phone. Neg from me.

  • +5

How is mr gerry advocating us to support aussie retailers? Plain rip off, not because of gst threshold

  • +6

Neg it to show HN that there are smart consumers in Australia!

    • +4

      Professional consumers maybe?

  • Everyone should complain to the ACCC.

  • no deal this price is a joke

  • +2

If Harvey Norman don't have stock TODAY, then it's no different to Google Play's < $400. Who knows - between now and 1st February, the Nexus 4 might be in stock on the Google Play website - which would make this "bargain" a ripoff. I criticised Mobicity for pulling a similar stunt with Grey Imports.

  • +1

still waiting for orders i place with hardly normal back in 16th Dec, neg!

  • Sorry, no deal. Typical Hardly Normal fail, jacking up price above official price direct from Google…

  • -2

Read up on the problems and cutbacks with this handset. It's pretty despicable what they have done.

  • Is this a price error? Maybe it is $396 instead?

    • no, it is $196 indeed due to a technical problem.

  • Typical HN ripoff, fail. :(

  • +1

Being priced at almost 25% more than RRP… and you're posting this as a "bargain"?

  • still waiting for my i5 tablet harvey was selling and the 2 iphone cases and no call back when talking to the shit support, they are useless then they are useless now and trying to rip me off

    • Just rise a paypal dispute if you paid by paypal. HN online customer service does not exist, I gave up after three weeks try with no reply.

  • Yeah still waiting for some washing powder I bought off HN online, support is non existent….
Rip off price, not getting my money (but does get a neg, at least that's something right?)

    • Still waiting for my Asus Tablet PC.

      • If you got a refund, you won't be getting the tablet. No point in waiting :D

  • +1

Does anyone know if google play store provides a valid tax invoice? because if im able to claim GST back on harveynorman and not playstore.. it might be worth it to just get it from HN. Also, how to pre-order from HN? do you need to pay first. oh and whats the return policy at HN? is it possible to return the phone if stock does return to playsore?
