Dick Smith 12V DC Portable Stove $15 save $24.95

100

Seems like a good price ends tonight so I'd click and collect if you want it as it won't be this price tomorrow. Portable ovens seem to go for around $40 on eBay. Would be great for camping or an emergency kit!

One of the great things about camping is cooking on a wood/gas/etc fire.
I guess it might be useful for someone who wanted to avoid being outdoors and cook inside a truck/tent.

Agree but it's still cheap. Too bad most camping sites prohibit open fires. With the latest goings on with the terrible bush fires I don't blame them :/

you can do that at home…

well this way your meal can be cooked by the time you get there…

if you are single, you can have a hot meal as soon as you get home from work…

        • im sure there would be some kind of safety warning that advises against cooking a pot of soup on your dashboard whilst driving.

Did someone say meals on wheels??

Maximum power is 120w. I've owned lightbulbs with more cooking potential.
    Pass.

    • It is only $15 and i'm sure it is not intended for cooking a baked dinner for 6 people??
There are reviews on the DSE site from actual users fro those interested.

For: Hot Dog - 5 minutes, Rice - 30 minutes, Grilled Cheese Sandwich - 7 to 10 minutes each side, canned food - 20 minutes, baby food - 3 to 5 minutes

    • I don't think you can get much more then 120w without hooking it up directly to your car battery…

    • So I take it your other light bulbs are encased in an airtight container designed to cook? Obviously I'm just having a go but I think 120w can do quite a lot when encased. Concentration of heat is the key here not watts

According to DSE review < 1 hour cooking for chilled. Decent amount of fuel goes in to 100 km, and one can imagine doing loops through the burbs. Although it would be ideal x city.

2 McChicken, 3 soft serve, $5, usually does me good.

You can enjoy the results of your culinary excellence while waiting for the RACQ/RACV/NRMA, etc to come and jump start your car again afterwards.

    • Leave the engine on.

Good idea, bake some spuds in foil on the engine, while you wait for your steaks to cook on this stoke!

    • this is truckers

      hmmm…

  • or use it with this

    Coleman Campingaz AC/DC Transformer

    LOL

    • Why?

      • Why not?

        • Well, you would need an adapter for one, and that only outputs 65W.
It was more of a "Why" at the "LOL" part, though.

        • Why ?

  • For anybody interested (truckies, tractor drivers without a 12 volt option I suppose), there is a 24 volt version of this stove kicking around. Jaycar had it up until last year and a quick search shows it's still on their Kiwi site for $NZ23. My suggestion is to go on holiday and then use it as a piece of carry-on luggage on the way back. Enjoy curious expressions on the faces of customs officials . Possibly end up on 'Border Security'. Possibly end up in jail for importing junks of cooked Hobbit.
