    Great price.

Amazon previously wouldn't deliver this item to Australia (as recently as end of 2012)

So I ended up purchasing it directly from Hauppauge (cost me $190.00 incl. delivery)

    • Is it worth buying ? What extent is its capabilities ?

      • +2

It's more of a video capture device than a PVR.

Hypothetically you could use it to transfer HD recordings (via component) from a Foxtel IQ2 or Tivo to your PC.
Connect it to a VCR and transfer your old video tapes to the PC.

Other people use it for capturing footage of gameplay from XBox / PS3 and uploading it online.

If you are interested there is a thread about the item on the Whirlpool forums

    • Thanks OP, found that it would not let me send to a P.O. Box.

      Changed Address and all good…

      Thank You!

  • Great find.
I've been wanting one of these for ages to capture foxtel on my mythtv box but the local prices are stupid. Currently using a hauppauge pci card but that only does s-video not component.

  • Interested for Foxtel IQ2 transferring. Is this any better than a capture card and software?

    • from what i understand is that you set it up and then connect it to your TV and thats it ? Can anyone comment

Also reviews on Amazon saying that they use it to record games from their PS3 and Xbox

It is just the capture device. Think of it as a USB capture card. You still need the PC to run the software and the video is captured onto the PC HDD.

It would be much better quality than most capture cards. It records via component video up to 1080i although it only records the actual resolution of the source so if you're recording foxtel SD you'll only get 480i or whatever low-def foxtel broadcasts at. Still, better than the s-video resolution most capture cards record at. Also, this does all the processing and outputs h.264 video so there's no load on your PC.

      • Thanks, ended up grabbing one. Should improve on my current method which is s-video to DVD recorder with questionable quality. This way I'll be able to use the WDTV to playback.

  • Bought this off Amazon.com when it was roughly AU$180. Great device, but not for the faint-of-heart.

  • How is this compared to their gaming recorder thingo? For game recordings of course

  • They do make a more expensive HDMI capture device too

  • Kids are using one to record their "LEET" XBOX360 skills :) works like a charm. Not much different to the gaming edition except a green light on that one.

    G

    • and this one has the IR blaster to change channels on your cable or satelite set-top box.
