      I just totally aced it

Ah… hello, it is the "American Mensa's online Home Test".

    • -3

i wonder how much Jerry Harvey would score

  • from the about us page:
    The organization
    for smart people like you

With more than 57,000 members, American Mensa is the largest national Mensa operating under the auspices of Mensa International, Ltd. There are currently more than 100,000 members worldwide, and an estimated six million Americans are eligible for Mensa membership.

Members of American Mensa range in age from 2 to 102. They include engineers, homemakers, teachers, actors, athletes, students and CEOs, and they share only one trait — high intelligence. To qualify for Mensa, they scored in the top 2 percent of the general population on an accepted standardized intelligence test.

As a member, you have the opportunity to meet other smart people at local, regional and national levels. You can attend entertaining, intellectually stimulating events and exchange ideas with others through a variety of publications and our online Community. You can also work to help others in your community by volunteering for community-oriented activities and working with the Mensa Foundation. And you can take advantage of our variety of member benefits and services.

    • +2

They forgot to mention that it includes pornstars - ala 90's star Asia Carrera… perhaps becoming a Mensa will give me the opportunity to attend an entertaining intellectually stimulating even where I can exchange ideas with her…

      • +3

I will dissuade you from doing so, as a porn star in the 90s would be probably bring her into the 40s-50s age range today with a heap more of mileage that you can ever clock alone. ;)

you really wouldn't want to go there.

      • -1

        perhaps becoming a Mensa will give me the opportunity to attend an entertaining _ _ _ _ _ _ stimulating even where I can exchange _ _ _ _ _ _ with her…//

  • +3

Wouldn't it be depressing if you get a low score? I rather not take it.

    • +15

Continuing to believe we are that we are not.

    • +3

Ye, a two year old made it, I wonder if the 102 yr old had to be retested to maintain their accreditation.

  • +39

I tried it and it said 'Stick to finding bargains'.

  • +1

Failed before I began. Tried to take it with Google Chrome browser. Test only compatible with Firefox/IE. Tried to open the link in a different browser, told me the key was no longer valid.

    • That's weird… it worked fine for me, and I run Chrome.

      • +3

I guess trying to open the test is a test by itself :O

    • +26

How hilarious is that - the self-promoting League of Extraordinary Brainiacs optimises their site for IE.

Being an IE user should disqualify a person from being a member of any org that claims an IQ above 90.

  • +4

I'm in the top 3 percentile, like everyone else.

    • +35

Only top 3%? I just got a call telling me grab some things and the helicopter will be here in 10 to pick me up. Later all

      • My score is too high for human being an a UFO is coming to pick me u

      • Only top 3%? I just got a call telling me grab some things and the helicopter will be here in 10 to pick me up. Later all

that's because you live in bundaberg

  • +1

If I am a genius or in the 2% category, I suspect someone must have discover my talent. Else, I am happy to be a normal person like everyone else.

  • +18

Of course all the OzBargainers will be in the top 3%. We are intelligent professionals after all!

    • +7

Looks like I'll have to have kids then…

  • Got the key again. 74 lame. Thought I could've done better. I think the pictures screwed me. The leaf and the orientations (that section I was struggling for time especially that leaf; was it the one with the jagged edges, or the branched out striations? decisions decisions! the last two sections were finished with minutes to spare, less abstract) I liked the word associations though; they were pretty straight forward.

  • +7

we should make a forum topic to post our scores and then scotty can calculate some average scores :D

    • +1

haha, that should be interesting to see how OzBargain's performance bell curve would look. Thanks for the post as well, OP - it was entertaining.

    • +5

Scotty would love to do that, but he's still finishing the test himself.

He started it three days ago.

    Online Home Test score

    Congratulations!
You scored a 67 on the Mensa Home Test.

Scores between 63 and 70 from the online test are above the 86th percentile and indicate an approximate IQ range between 116 and 125. This high score indicates a strong possibility that you may qualify for membership in Mensa!

I guessed most the word ones. Never good wif English >.<

    • congratulations !!

    • Mensa MAY just have another new member. Congrats.

    • +1

      off you go to yankyland!

  • GL working working out what some of those pictures are or even seeing some of the detail in one of them.

Remember it's age adjusted, you get dumber as you get older, so the absolute score may not be enough. 70 for me which is 116-125 or top 14% (top 5-10% in school so not far off/not done too much damage over the years).

    • +1

Errr yes. It depends on the level of bullshit versus the entertainment or educational value so like the bible apps this does pass the ozbargain standard (imo).

    • +3

You must be new here. A 'bargain' is judged relative to its supposed value. Transient discounts are the lifeblood of this site.

"If I create some bullshit product"

Whether it's a 'bullshit' product or not, is no criteria for its exclusion. While you hold no value for this item, others might. This discussion comes and goes every time Koorong has a sale. I personally don't care for their products but I'm A-okay with others saving some money on them. This subject is wearying.

"then one day I let it be free temporarily, does that automatically make it an ozbargain worthy deal?"

If temporarily free items were disqualified, then you might as well cull every digital sale from the site's history.

  • where do i click to do the test? ;P

  • +5

Quite easy but you'll have a distinct and possibly unfair advantage if, like myself, you've studied anatomy and have experienced other general aptitude tests in the past (GA, UMAT/GAMSAT, STAT etc.) Did quite well but I take it with a grain of salt.

Unlike what they're claiming, I doubt this test is sufficient at measuring innate intelligence and seems heavily weighted towards real-world experience, which is often based on entirely arbitrary life choices.

Be warned that the questions that ask to spot the similarities/differences in pattern are actually asking about the objects portrayed in the pictures and not the images themselves. Also, many of images are uncommonly poor quality.

    • The leg looked ambiguous to me, but I'm no anatomy expert.
With the rotated blocks, it looked like two answers were correct. What did I miss, or was it a trick question?

      • I think while 2 were the same shape, one was upside-down, not merely rotated ?

      • Double post !

      • That's a question where they're actually asking for the object portrayed (the blocks) and not a rotatable image. IIRC, if you reject the obviously incorrect options (differing numbers/position of cubes), you have two with the identical construction as the first image, but one is also flipped upside-down whereas the correct answer is simply turned on its base.

EDIT: ^Explained. This one was a head-scratcher since I read it a bit literally and spent my surplus time fruitlessly trying to match #line/intersections with the first image.

        • You mean the 2D image on the paper was rotated, rather than the object in space?

Or do you mean it was mirrored? But wasn't it symmetric, making flipping the same as a rotation?

        • Object in space. Again, it came down to 'more right' vs 'less right.' If you want to split hairs, they really should have added 'rotation on a single plane,' but that's the least of my misgivings regarding the veracity of this test.

  • +4

Before I take the test I'd like to know if there is a cure for Mensa?
    What is the treatment?
    Is it fatal?

    • +11

Ethanol is the treatment. Not fatal in recommended dose.
Or you can watch reality TV, commercial current affairs shows, or listen to talkback radio.

    • I'd like to know this as well. I just got tested and it gave me an 8 and then told me to see a doctor!

      • +17

That is because you appear to be a dog, possible a golden retriever. If you were a border collie you would have received an 80.

There is no cure for this.

        • Duh, you are not going to get into Mensa missing a really obvious solution……. change the profile pic :)

        • +17

          Should I even try?

        • +1

if you have to ask, it's probably not for you!

        • No. But recommend it to your Border Collie mate next time you're sniffing his tail

    • +1

High intelligence will rarely protect you from debilitating delusions.

    • There is.
      Induced menopause.
      No.

  • The site's so laggy, on my wifi I can load every other site fine but not Mensa - either it's being ozbargained or they're not really smart…

    • +1

      Yup. OzBargained.

      • Even having all the smartest people in one group couldn't prevent OzBargainers from crashing the site :D

        • even a free test is a bargain…

    • That's Jerry Harvey instructing all his employee's to take the test

      • +1

Done it. I'm between Black Lab and Border Collie

  • Completed the test but my results are lagging out :(

    -edit
    Finally got it!
You scored a 64 on the Mensa Home Test.

Scores between 63 and 70 from the online test are above the 86th percentile and indicate an approximate IQ range between 116 and 125. This high score indicates a strong possibility that you may qualify for membership in Mensa!

  • +4

It told me to accept that I'm a possum and stop pretending to be a human online. :(

    • +13

Also you could stop fighting / having sex in my roof cavity at 3am. Cheers

      • +2

I'll ask the missus to have sex quieter. :)

        • +1

It's really the spitting / hissing noise that bothers me most. If she could stop that I'd be most grateful :)

        • +9

then she's a spitter, not a swallower - you can't always pick 'em

hang on - A llama is complaining about the spitting noise?

          Pot / Kettle, anyone?

        • .

        • +1

I think his reputation has been sullied by his more vicious cousin, mad__guanaco.

        • +1

thanks, had to look it up (lucky it wasn't a question on the MENSA test!)

        • I'm a quiet spitter I'll have you know. And I certainly don't hiss - that would just be weird…

        • Well I'm human and still hiss and spit during sex. Is this not the norm?

        • "Do llamas spit? This is probably the most frequent question llama owners are asked. The truth is that they do spit, but usually only at other llamas and nearly always over food. Most people think all llamas spit at people, which is an impression you've gotten from a visit to a petting zoo. A petting zoo isn't a good environment for a llama, because llamas are herd animals."

  • OzBargained? lol

  • +1

I qualified for Mensa membership before I became a mum however I'm convinced that I would not qualify now :)

Site is totally crawling - think I'll not depress myself today ;)

    • LOL, Perfect timing.
Get her to take the test!

  • -4

I taked dis test and it telled me I are a jee-nee-us. Reckon I'm speshul - that's why I keep gittin them e-mails tellin me my credit score got better and I kin git 5% off my auto insurance.

Seriously… the world is full of people who IQ-test off the charts but somehow are failures in every endeavour they undertake - academic or otherwise - and have the personality of a genital wart (of course they will declare that it's ASSburgers - or was until ASSBurgers got defined out of existence recently).

inb4 sad dill tested low… I don't 'dis' IQ tests because of my score, I test them because they're shitful as predictors of anything to do with real life: I test above 140, which is where you would expect me to given that I have educated parents and a double-major first-class honours degree (and straight firsts at Masters). Same with The Lovely (on her biz cards it says The Lovely BA (Hons) LLB (Hons)). Neither of us would ever wish to be associated with people so sad that they join Mensa.

    • +3

So…you're raging against people smarter than you even with your qualifications?

    • +3

      bitter much?

    • Who cares about any of that - tell me more about how I can save 5% off my auto insurance!!

  • +17

Sweeeeet! I took the test and got an awesome 20% discount on my IQ (was 115 last year, now just 92). Totally OZB'd it

    • +1

Dude, that's like a 20% off coupon - totes awesome man!

      • +4

        Happy to share.

20% off your IQ too, just use the following code when you check out: HONEYBOOBOO

        • Code has been used, have you got another one??

  • Where's the on button?

  • I don't need to take the test, I simply bought a smart phone, which instantly puts me in the top 80% of humans.

  • Did we ozbargain the site? Not loading for me

  • so what would you need for top 2%, 240-250 IQ?

    • I think it's 130 (on their test).

      • IQ 132-151 is a test score of 73 to 80, which is their top 2%.

        • 72, I was so close :(

    • +1

I'll tell you when I get my score

edit - geez, they're taking a long time to mark my results - I think they are reviewing the video with the 3rd umpire.

  • +7

"Congratulations on passing our test. The Church of Scientology would like to thank you all for contacting us. We will be around shortly."

    • +5

That would be the bottom 2%

      • that's the secret level achievement, where you get every single question wrong.

  • +3

MENSA normally pay for the upkeep of their website (inc paying for download speed) by the entry cost to these tests.

This test took longer to load than it did to complete!

edit - I read the bottom of their website and it said something like "Our web Hosting services are brought to you by Catch of the Day" !!
