  • How do this compare to the branded ones from Samsung or Sony>

This TV is not better then Samsung….

You get what you pay for, Kogan offer good value but are always worse then their more expensive competitors.

      • My 3 year old Samsung LA32C650 has a PVR, which can be added to a many samsung models via the service menu. Can add as much recording space as you like - just plug in a portable HDD and off you go! Only downside is you need to have the TV on and watching the selected channel to record, but works perfectly and can be used for time shifting.
Can also playback personal recordings (.avi, .mkv, etc…)

Pricing error possibility radar detected. Must call/email to confirm

    • +1

I dont think so its a pricing error.. The actual sellig cost is at 900$ and groupon has them at 599$ … 33% off it says clearly…i have bought one :)

    • +2

You need to make it obvious your trying to be funny

  • Looks like kogan spent the costly sum necessary to implement full view.

  • $600 isnt that good is it?

  • Looks good, but does not include 1TB of storage space, need to connect an external one. Anyone got one with any review?

I've got one - had it for a few months, replacing a Samsung one which died with a well-known fault which Samsung AU refuse to do anything about (overseas there has been class actions etc.). After that I'm reasonably convinced that paying more for another brand is largely a waste of money. I purchased the extended warranty with this, as it's still a damn cheap TV even with that added on.

This is a basic TV with excellent picture quality - I use it only as a HDMI monitor, but have tested the internal USB playback which works fine.

The only real issue is backlight bleed - ie. when the picture is showing black scenes you can clearly see the lighting used around the bezel. For a serious home theater this would bother me, but for a serious home theater in a darkened room I wouldn't be buying a $699 (price I paid) Kogan TV. Any time there is any colour on the screen the picture quality is really sharp and vivid.

Remote is crap too but I never use it. Surely you have a cheap universal one anyway.

3D is gimmicky but effective. I don't use it but it does work well.

People here are pushing plasmas - this thing uses an amazingly small amount of power (I fully monitor the usage of all my appliances). I can't imagine a plasma using anything like as little. If your power is free, and you'd also like a free built-in heater, by all means get a cheap plasma!

      • +1

The power usage topic always comes up so it would be great to get some facts from someone who monitors it.Could you tell us what the cost savings is per year.

        • +1

          I figured it out,using this website -
          Kogan http://reg.energyrating.gov.au/comparator/product_types/32/s…
          Samsung http://reg.energyrating.gov.au/comparator/product_types/32/s…

The rates on the website are based on 10 hours usage a day.
          Kogan KALED503DSA - 461 kWh/annum.
          Samsung PS51E550 - 640kWh/annum.
          The difference is 179kWh/annum.
Based on my rate of 24.4c kWh it's $43.68 more expensive a year to run the Samsung plasma.
Which is about 12c more a day and that's for 10 hours a day.

        • Which is about 12c a day and that's for 10 hours a day.

oh how i love the "led uses less power" justification. tho in my case going from a 5 year old plasma to led was from over 400w down to 150w. but for me the biggest difference ive noticed is the heat going from 50" plasma @40+c to 55" led/lcd@24c. in this current heatwave we are having here in adelaide that was a very welcome relief

edit: oh and i should add, ive been told current tech plasmas also run much cooler, but led's are meant to be cooler than even the current plasmas. so neither heat or power use should really sway your decision as to which tech you buy.

edit2: i should also add that for the price im extremely happy with my $750 (delivered) kogan 3d 55" led/lcd. sure it may be slightly not as good as its competition which is $100's more than it, but in another couple of years when i upgrade again ill still be smiling about the money i saved.

After that I'm reasonably convinced that paying more for another brand is largely a waste of money.

I love how you say this then go on to tell us how crap your Kogan is.

      • +7

People asked for a review. I provided one. It's good for what it is, but has faults. So did my Samsung. Both are crap in some aspects and good in others.

Power usage is lower. Whether it is lower enough to bother you is your call.

I think I'll make that the last time I try and provide helpful feedback to this community.

        • +2

          Good review, thank you!

  • I'll pass this time, dont want to be stuck with a crappy tv

  • not bad 50" 3D LED + 100/120Hz or is that refresh rate for the 3D part and is really 50/60Hz?

  • +7

Plasma is the way to go if you want to go cheap and have the best possible picture.
For $749 delivered you can get a Samsung 51" Smart 3D Plasma with 2 pairs of glasses -

The reality here is that the $750 plasma will look better than any 50 inch LED on the market. I wouldn't touch this Kogan LED panel for $600.

      • +2

        it is $599, would you touch it now? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

        • +1

nope not even if it was half that price - the kogan tvs I have had and seen are not worth the time it takes to get refund

        • Love your chubby face emoticon… +1

      • I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not Marto; but by going into every LCD/LED thread spruiking about plasma, you're effectively just trolling mate…perhaps only a little better than perpetuating the Apple vs Android debate IMHO.

I have both, so I don't care either way; and correct me if I'm wrong; but your only purpose here seems to be simply to re-ignite an old argument???

    • i bought this tv (from appliances online) and posted the deal, absolutely love it!!!

although one annoyance for me is the reflection, i have had to move the tv from facing the window to in front of it.

    • wow! interesting!

    • We bought the 51" plasma Samsung from Appliances online….it is great! inbuilt wifi, set up in 0 minutes with the firmware update straight away, plays most of the mkv, avi etc. from the USB.

The shop is great as well. The way they deliver and all is really useful!
Who can go past $749 for a huge plasma - delivered!

I would spend a little more for the Samsung, get it delivered the next day or day after and you know it works well…

  • +1

Product will be shipped in 6 weeks.. Wot

  • Try this cheap 51" plasma for $499 from JB. Free delivery. I bought one for the kids and I'm impressed for the price.

    http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/plasma-lcd-tvs/plasma-tv/soni…

    • soniq TV in above link is not 3D, and only has SD tuner on board.

      Just saying.

    • +3

All you have to do is check the official power ratings instead of some bozo's at WP,

      http://reg.energyrating.gov.au/comparator/product_types/32/s…

    • So it costs the average user $30 a year to own a plasma, which is obviously cheaper to buy new than the equivalent LED. Salesman still use this gimmick to sell overpriced LEDs (they all are!), they always have.

  • I don't get why Kogan would use Groupon to sell a TV? Why not just pass the cost of using Groupon on to consumers by advertising it at an even lower price?
I'm guessing Groupon take at least $50 per TV?

    • probably to get into a different audience than they are currently known

  • Anyone recommend the best bang for buck 60" plasma around at the moment.
