Wiper Blades for Cars

Not a bargain but can't be.

I'm a big fan of the Bosch Aerotwin wiper blades

Not really a deal or a hack, but rather than buy individual lengths, e.g. 500+550mm, buy them as a set.

For my car, buying them individually will cost approx $55. I bought them as a set for $38 on sale.

Even at the same price, why would you pay $69 for Wipertech? Wipertech have great reviews online, but poor feedback from the people I know who have bought them.

I've been superhappy with Bosch Aerotwin wiper blades. Lasts a lot longer than the geniune wipers which can be over $100 at the dealer. My old car has 3 year+ old Bosch Aerotwins, the car has never been garaged and I expect one more winter out of them.

FYI, I buy a lot of my parts from Runautoparts. been using them for years. Good quality parts and good prices.

    bosch wipers are good
wipertech very obviously is just a dropshipper

wipertech very obviously is just a dropshipper

Being an online company doesn't automatically make them drop shippers. Unless you have evidence to suggest otherwise?

      • +3

        I also wouldn't call them a dropshipper.

They have their own branding and carry stock locally.

  • +4

    Bosch over the others…

OEM is great if you can get them at a decent price.

    • +1

That's what I also thought, however my recent pair of geniune wipers from a dealer wasn't good. So going forward I'll use Bosch Aerotwins.

  • +3

+1 on the Bosch Aerotwin and definitely worthwhile checking the set prices. I paid $31.93 for mine (600mm and 450mm).

  • I bought them as a set for $38 on sale.

    Where from?

    • +1

Runautoparts had a sale over the weekend.

      Current price is $42

      • Not a bargain but can't be.

I mean that could have been a deal. Especially with winter coming up and increase rainfall over the recent months etc

Thanks. Will keep a look out I guess.

        • Reason I didn't post it as a bargain is because every car is different and not all of the Bosch wipers were on sale.

And do be honest, 20% off sales happen quite frequently, but even at full price they can be good value and cheaper than OEM or even inferior well advertised brands such as wipertech.

      • I wish I knew about this site earlier. I ended up doing a price match at SuperCheapAuto and got a pair of Aerotwins for $45 total, but SCA sells them at $50 individually. I'll know to get them from Runautoparts in the future, their prices are very reasonable.

      • @JimB was sale cost + $12.95 shipping?

        • I think so.

I always order a couple of other car parts to get the total cost of over $99 for free shipping

          Oil, air & cabin filters

  • I ended up wirh wipertech last time i needed some because these stupid modern cars have full arms to replace, not just the blade. Wipertech was same price as local auto shop. So far so good.

Are the Bosch blade only or the frame thingy as well?

    • How long have you had the wipertech for?

Bosch has the euro style flat blade arm. I've never done well with just replacing the rubber refills when I had Japanese cars.

      • +1

Had them about 6 months. Still good. Car lives outside and has been throuhh a few muddy puddles to test them out properly.

        • Good to know, hopefully they will last 2 years which is what I expect for wiperblades. Any longer is a bonus.

    • If you are handy, you can change the rubber inserts on the 'aero' arms. I've done it on Bosch blades and KIA OEM blades. Much much cheaper.

      • +2

I did that and it was a fail. Thebreplacement blades ended up with a wave in them that caused very bad shuddering.

i am normally handy for that sort of stuff. Not sure if it was because the arms were a three piece design and the wave formed in the joint area.

        • Yeah, I'm pretty handy too but I never got the refills to work as well the full new set.

From memory, they use to come in 6.5mm and 8mm. Had to find the end that was fixed and then insert the metal blades. These were the days before flat blades.

Ever since I could buy retrofit flat blades, I never bothered with refills, although I did try because I had spare refills, it just didn't work. Just easier to buy the whole set now, it just works 100% every time.

          • @JimB: You have to get the correct refills. There are heaps of different types. Check the width, the locking end type and you have to order the correct length as you don't cut to length with aero blades. I buy from AliExpress.

      • Where did you get the rubber inserts from?

I used to do this before the days of the flat blade wipers

  • +1

I tried Wipertech, so far they seem fine. I think they work out a bit cheaper than buying in store, especially if you use the redriven promo code.

  • Bosch & Valeo only way for longevity

    • Both Bosch & Valeo make it for the OEM and I've used Valeo in the past, however Bosch seem more readily available and cheaper.

I tried Meyle who also make some OEM products. It was terrible. Runautoparts were good enough to give me a credit.

    • Yep, I've always got the Bosch Aerotwins and they generally last me 3-4 years. Got lucky with my last set from Amazon AU warehouse that was an open box and half price.

  • +1 wipertech

  • I just order the rubber refills from China for a few dollars. Works great!

    • Where can you get said rubber refills?

What wiper frame are you using? Flat blade or old school metal arm?

      • Aliexpress

      • Your blades will either accept regular rubber refils, or they wont. Depends on how theyre made, but I don't think any manufacturer would be inventing a new standard refill type just for their replaceable blade arms.

  • +1

I buy full wiper blades in aliexpress for around $12, no fiddling with rubber refills.

  • The last set of Bosch Aerotwins I got from eBay were crap. Went back to wipertech and seem ok.

  • I agree with WiperTech, however, their support isn't very good. Their Google SSO isn't working and that is I have my account, I've reported it 3 times and had 0 response.

  • I had the opposite experience with Bosch wiper blades , I have gone through 3 sets that started streaking within a month and progressively got worse , I even moved to their washer fluid concentrate for the second set as recommended by Bosch when I complained about the first set but it made no difference at all , I have since moved to Wipertech blades and almost a year later they are still working perfectly , no more Bosch blades for me.

Good feedback. Use whatever works best for you.

  • have you check wipers at Costco

    • Not a member.

      What brand do they sell?

      • Michelin or Goodyear

        • Have you used them before?

  • +3

Marketing is the reason. I’d never heard of Bosch ones but have wipertech. Just googled Bosch and guess what the sponsored first search was.

    • Wipertech definitely spends money on advertising.

I'd say Bosch is the most popular with European cars and probably make it for the European car manufacturers.

In the past Trico use to be the most popular in Australia, especially when they manufactured here, however I find them expensive and confusing.

Why have 3 different types of wipers that fit your car? Just sell the best one.

      • So you’re advocating for a monopoly? That’s a little odd.

        • No. I mean why does Trico offer 3 different types of wipers.

          • @JimB: I could see both Hybrid and Beam blades at repco, so can’t comment on the third but here’s an explanation. Different designs for different use-cases

Hybrid wiper blades combine elements of both conventional and beam designs, while beam blades are characterized by a flat, aerodynamic profile. Hybrid blades offer a balance of durability and performance, while beam blades excel in aerodynamics and wiping effectiveness, especially in adverse weather conditions

            • @ColtNoir: ‘ Hybrid wiper blades combine elements of both conventional and beam designs, while beam blades are characterized by a flat, aerodynamic profile. Hybrid blades offer a balance of durability and performance, while beam blades excel in aerodynamics and wiping effectiveness, especially in adverse weather conditions’

              Sounds like marketing spiel.

              • @JimB: This was an AI explanation after asking it what the difference was.

If you don’t like having option then don’t buy them.

    Jenok Wiper Blades - https://jenokwiperblades.com.au/

free delivered, fit perfect, front and back, didn't need to search forever because the damn lookup tables are wrong (Bosch)

australian owned too, so good to support them

    • I have also heard good things about them but I'll stick with Bosch as it's cheaper for a set, however Jenok also include refills.

    • Thanks for this. Been looking for a set and $69 with refills seems awesome. My OEM ones are very wasteful as you have to replace the whole thing.

  • +1

Bosch Aerotwin, just get supercheap to price match the lowest price you find online, Picked up a front pair for $40. Beats paying $49.99 each.

    • Supercheap have been PITAs to price match depending on who you get.

Sometimes they add the shipping and won't price match a physical store if interstate.

      But try your luck.

      • never had a problem, when i did the aerotwins they didn't even factor in the shipping haha. Never checked out so fast.

        • Lucky you.
