I was a Jellyfin user in case you mention it. (obviously, I don't like it) .

If anyone has a discount code, please share (I know we don't like to pay retail price).

Plexamp is a good music player to check out (for Plex pass user only). If you are thinking hosting your music lib on Plex media server.

  • I find Emby the better solution. With all of the issues with Plex Downloads, I can't trust their product anymore (coming from a Plex Pass and an Emby Premier holder).

Can someone explain what this all is, how it work's etc pl0x

  • electricity is getting expensive to run plex at home now

  • -2

Does this have all the shows Netflix and Stan has?

    • +3

I don't think you know what plex is lol

      • Yeh I don't

    • +2

think of Plex like an empty shelf at home where you store your blurays and 4k discs

but it's empty… you need to fill it ;)

You can make it just like Netflix and Stan if you so desire, it all depends on your shelf stacking abilities.

      • -1

So it's unlimited online storage for videos?

        • nope. you need to provide the storage (the space in your home for the shelf). The shelf organizes the books (movies/shows) you have and gives it a netflix like UI (Continue watching section, Whats trending now etc) and provides posters and other metadata.

          • -2

@kazer: Does it have all the tv series and movies on there and you fill it or is there. What if that are missing stuff, can you create your own put it in?

            • +1

@Poor Ass: Bruh. Just chatgpt or google it at this point.

You fill up your storage with whatever you want.
Plex picks up things from your storage and organises into a library.

              • -5

@kazer: don't understand what the craze is

everything is online and having use own storage is just costly

                • +1

@Poor Ass: how much do you pay for netflix in a year? $200+? And if you want disney? Binge? Paramount?

you spend that $200 on storage instead once off and you, your family and friends now have your own version of Netflix where you can watch anything you desire.

If you dont understand the craze, thats okay. it just means this isnt for you.

                  • @kazer: I must be mistaken on what you have said.. you said have to use own storage as in own hard disk space, cloud, server space right?

Then you have to purchase your own movies and put those things in the storage.

And then for people to access it you need to leave your computer on or server etc or it won't work

So Plex like you said is an organiser but you need to provider your own data. You can watch what you desire but you need to own it first right and then put it in?

Like if they gave you unlimited data space that would be cool but it's just using your own storage

                    • @Poor Ass: using your own storage isn't as bad as you think
when you watch a tv show or film, you can delete it.

                      • -1

@bohn: I'm just saying it's costly but very old school at the same time

probably suitable for a teenager's porn stash in the 2000's

                    • @Poor Ass: The main reason use Plex is to have a superior experience to Netflix, Stan, HBO etc

The goal for many server owners is not to spend more money, its to have something better then everything else.

                      • -1

@samfisher5986: sounds good so it's really for sever owners then

                        • @Poor Ass: Yes Plex Pass is for server owners.

The only other benefit is if you want to join someone elses server who isn't a Plex Pass holder, having your own Plex Pass holder will enable you to watch remotely.

                        • @Poor Ass: a server can be an old laptop though , a spare PC with some storage, etc.

                          • @bohn: wouldn't fit too much 4k films

                            • @Poor Ass: sure it will, remember, u do not need to KEEP THEM FOR A LONG TIME, only until you have seen them, then you can delete.

my advice: stick with Free to Air tv. You will be much happier there.

A film just released on amazon last week, 2160p = 11.05GB - if you had a 4TB HDD you could fit 361 of those
I doubt you will get 4k remuxes.. if you knew what they were, I am sure you wouldn't be asking all the questions that you are.

4k remuxes can be quite big, a 4k remux I just saw is 57GB, and if you had a 4TB hdd you could fit 70 on there… is 70 movies not enough before you start deleting? 4TB is small as well in 2025. A 4tb drive can be as cheap as what, $138?

                              wake up mate

                              • @bohn: Sorry to have upset you

I don't even know what a remuxe is

                                • +1

@Poor Ass: Free to air TV is still quite good. You will be happy :)

                  • @kazer: Not that simple lol, I'm at $1800 for my server and with ongoing costs, maintenance etc
It's genuinely not worth it for a lot of people.
But being a provider with the storage and being able to have many friends and family using it instead of netflix it's worth it a million times over in those who I can help save a couple hundred a year.

If my house burns down, it's gone, everything, media and all but it's a risk I'm willing to take because I have over 200TB of content and have enjoyed a LOT of it.

                    • @Darude Sandstorm: $1800 is your choice though, its certainly not necessary to spend that much.

You can buy a $150 Mini PC, automate everything and have it set to delete content after watching.

Its particularly viable with fast internet these days, you can redownload what you need in a few minutes.

I'm still confused. So how do we stack it? Like where do we get the movies and shows from?

        • either the internet (piracy) or from physical discs you own.

  • +2

Only "Pass" I'm using everyday - tried for a few months and figured I'd be using it for a long long time so bought the lifetime pass in 2020.

  • +2

    Absolutely worth it

Using plex to host and watch my local media for free. It does the job. Can't find a reason to pay. Should same as plexamp.

OP: Plexamp is a good music player to check out (for Plex pass user only)

Plex: Yes, you get a lot of amazing features for free with Plexamp. But a lot more are unlocked with a Plex Pass membership.

This post is more of an ad than a deal.

    • +2

Free version would do the job when it's only used for local watching.

You wouldn't have made your last statement if you knew for what plex is used by most ppl on a daily basis, where Plex pass comes very handy.

  • I ended up getting Plex Pass for $120 about a year ago and turned a $100 refurb Dell mini pc into a TV tuner box running to a firestick 4k. Works really well. The advert removal / skip function on recorded TV is great.

  • +2

Pulled the trigger as well. Thanks OP.

  • I need someone to help me set mine up.
I bought this deal last time here and I'm nomadic atm.
So not sure if I can utilise it some how

    • If locally only just install. Add some libraries under settings. Example movies tv shows and so on. Dump media in those folders and Plex does most work. Log on fire stick or whatever you use. Much more too it but that's the basics. Need to open ports on modem if using externally. Can set up different logins, example kids have one for their age rating. Pin on yours if you want. Can invite friends family to watch your library.
I got mine setup on unraid and automatic downloader using both RSS feeds and what I put in watchlist.

      • Appreciate.

So it’s like a Cloud server for your media¿

Does it need to be licensed media only¿

        • It gets the media online. Just search it up. Plex Media server with Usenet and add-ons. Something like that should point you in correct direction. Some features not free though such as Usenet. Got it from an earlier deal on here.

Charging for remote viewing when it was previously free
Massively inflating the price of the lifetime pass

Writing is on the wall that Plex must be struggling badly, very poor time to buy the lifetime pass.
Guessing their investor money has dried up.

How long do you think it has left?

  • This is fine, I was under the impression (from some reddit threads) that this was going to mean my 15 subscribers would have to pay.
Now that I see they don't I can support this completely.
Removing the mobile unlock fee for them as well is doubly good.

With how much simpler this is, and how long they've offered good support (Besides iOS App which has 1/4 of the features of android and impossibly slow download speeds) I am completely happy with the change, even though it doesn't affect me in a negative way like it does others, it's worth it, moreso when comparing it to Emby or Jellyfin (especially end users)

    • Was wondering the same. Just got few family and friends on mine. Good they don't have to pay and if getting more on it also free for them.
