absolute steal for the latest and greatest from carlinkit. i have one of these and it works well. ive admittedly only tested the android auto so far but i imagine carplay is just as good from what i've seen.

this is a successor to the carlinkit 5, which was well received on here at almost $40.

this supports both usb c and usb a.

detailed review here from anthony barker, who reviews a lot of these dongles
an unboxing/overview from gary cantrell

this is an affiliated item, so don't forget about your 19% tcb cashback
(you can check affiliation here). you can also stack with ali's in-house cashback and coins.

before someone else points it out, ill note that if you happen to have a raspberry pi (or similar sbc) with the right specs (usb otg + wifi/bt + low power enough for a car context) you can set it up as a wireless aa or wireless carplay dongle. i dont believe there's any way to do both with an rpi but id love to be corrected on this

For those paying in USD this is how you get the correct exchange rate in PayPal:

Setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:

  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD
  • Proceed with checkout

  • Side note: If you've got an older 2014-2018 Mazda - The retrofit car kit is pretty cheap on Aliexpress right now as well.

$65 on Aliexpress posted to Melbourne. $130 on Amazon AU.

  • +1

It gives me 'This product can't be shipped to your address.' but not if I select the other options instead. Seems odd

  • +2

Seems like OOS. Cannot ship to selected region

    • back in stock i believe

  • OOS. Been looking for one of these for a while :/

    • its available again!

  • +1

still available here for $25 CarlinKit Mini5 Pro

  • +1

Never buy this brand water of money, intimate connectivity. Not reliable at all.

    • +5

Who doesn't like some intimate connectivity with their water brand.

  • Just managed to order it for USD8.97 (A$14.34). Wondering why I got cheaper, have I got the right model? https://postimg.cc/fkWMtPPf

    • are you a new aliexpress customer?

      • +1

No. I have shopped once before but that was more than a year ago. Maybe that played a part. Also, got the cashback tracking for $2.14 - so ended up effectively A$12.20 delivered! Great deal :)

  • back in stock

  • Bought using bundle. Have previous version which works fine. Can never have too many dongles!

  • +1

Why am I'm getting AUD 7.15 including Tax. Something wrong?

    • new account?

      • Old account. But never used

        • +2

That would be the new user discount. First time orders make most products dirt cheap.

  • Weird - I ordered first one, $12.64 USD.
    Ordered a second one - $14.37 USD.
Left it a couple of hours, ordered a third one - $12.64 USD.
    Now cancelled order #2.

  • Be careful with this if it plugs directly into your USB port. Great way to break your port.

    • You are correct, but any advise how to avoid it may be using USB splitter or something?

      • You'd have to use a male to female cable but I'm not sure if that would work out not. I have the previous model which has a normal USB cable. The thought of using this model scares me as it would be so easy to break a USB port in your car and that won't be cheap to replace. Pity because it's a great price and device

  • Sorry, a noob here who only plays radio and occasionally music via phone. If my phone is connected with car audio via Bluetooth anyway, what is the purpose of this gadget/kit? I am trying to understand 101 about this kit.

    • +1

Nothing, it would be useless to you. This only makes android auto wireless.

    • If you have normal android auto in your car it saves you plugging your phone into the car everytime you get in. If you don't have wired Android Auto or Apple car play then it's of no use to you

      • Every time I get in the car, my phone gets auto-connected to the car's in-built bluetooth and that lets me play any music from the phone. What purpose does this kit serve in that scenario?

        • Do you have an iPhone or an Android phone? Does your car have a screen/ display in it?

          • @Farticus: Android.. Yes, my Subaru has an in-built audio system with display that comes with the car.

            • @ScribbleSass: Does it have Android Auto?

              • @Farticus: Not sure.. I will have to check it. All I know is that it has a standard dash that comes with the car, with all usual touch options such as radio, bluetooth, car info, etc.

                • @ScribbleSass: Google maps/Waze maps/YouTube music etc appear on the inbuilt screen, rather than the mobile device.

      • Just curious wouldn't you generally need to plug your phone in to charge anyway?

        • Personally my phone is on a wireless charging mount in my car.

  • showing 13 AUD for me

  • Has anyone tried this on Mazda CX9 2020? Does it work? CX9 isn’t in their compatibility list.

  • can you stream youtube video on this?

    • no you cannot

    • I hope you're not trying to do that while driving

  • +1

I received it today and works perfectly in Kia Sportage 2020.

    • +1

Received mine today as well. Works perfectly on a 2018 AZ swift sport. I purchased a usb-c female to USB-a male short cable to get safely out of knock and break range.

      • Where did you get the short cable from?

        • I bought this one from office works.

          Cygnett Essentials USB-A to USB-C Adaptor 10cm

          $22.00
          Product Code:CY3321PCUS
          Brand:Cygnett

          • @StackableSnacks: Thanks but that's more than the adapter cost :O.

            • +1

@ChikaXclsv: Haha that's fair. You can get them cheap on Amazon etc, but the amount of cheap cables I have been through with android auto wired, i didn't mind the small investment

    • Mine came today too and and it connected without issue.

Super fast to connect too (coming from the Motorola MA1).

  • +1

Just arrived today (Perth). Installed. Connected to Bluetooth and it did the rest. Very excited to try tomorrow

  • Mine turned up today connected easily. Only thing for me the Bluetooth audio is so LOUD from the iPhone. Can’t seem to regulate it from the phone.

    • +1

why not turn the volume down in the car?

  • Mine arrived today and works a treat, connects very quickly once car turned on.

  • +1

Mine arrived over the weekend, and… you get what you pay for i guess.
Initially connected without issue for the quick test. Day 2 (today) on the commute to work, it constantly has issues. Its hard to explain but it will be playing music, then appears to lose signal and the music goes warbled, like its playing at 0.5x, sometimes it will recover and start playing again, other times it will say phone not responding. Restarted phone and dongle, no change.
Phone runs fine via cable. And was running fine on motorola ma1 before that died (different issue).
Will try again on the way home, failing that asking for a refund.

    • Same. Had no issues on the first time it got connected. The following day it kept getting disconnected.

    • Maybe it's having power issues? Is the plug a bit iffy? Is it getting knocked?

I found out that it really doesnt like being turned off during the boot cycle.

      • In my case there is nothing wrong with the port, its a 2 year old car and it works fine with my phone plugged in via cable on the same port (also fast charges my phone for good measure).
Heading home soon so will give it another try.

        • having a look on the carlink support app, theres a few troubleshooting tips. However, i'm not sure if they apply to our device

@Davo1111: Note my SSID was VehiConn_XXXX and the IP address was 192.168.50.100 :)

Other than that seems to fast connect but will have to go for a drive later today to test functionality.

    • i had more success after changing to a higher wifi band (check manual)

      • I'll try this work around with the dropouts. Did you choose the highest option?

  • Mine arrived today plugged it into the computer first and connected the phone via Bluetooth. Then plugged into the car connected straight away and started playing music.

I received the SE version not the pro

    • It's the same one. If you look at their website the mini5 pro is the same photo as the one shipped from AliExpress.

      • Mini SE only supports airplay. I just received mine today and got the mini SE not the pro. The model numbers are different. lt will not work with Android auto at all. I have initiated a return.

        • When i got home I had another look at it. It said Pro on the packaging and SE on the device, but it does work with android auto.

  • +1

    Received and tested mine today.

I've had massive issues using this with Android Auto. (Random disconnects and media audio breaking up) Will likely be returning.

No problems with Apple CarPlay so far.

Note: I already use an AAWireless dongle in same car for Android Auto with no issues.

    • +1

Scroll up. I've posted the fix

      • Can I ask which setting did you use for the fix. I tried the highest and other freq, still having issues with Android Auto.

        • Not sure mate. I didn't have the issue. I was just looking for firmware upgrade stuff and found the Q&A

  • Having issue with my Rav4. Uploaded to latest firmware, connected once and now connection failed error.
No way to connect without that additional splitter cable?

    • +1

Have you tried deleting it and re-installing it in Bluetooth, I just did a firmware upgrade and that’s what I had to do to get it to connect.

Also reboot it by unplugging it, it might take a bit of fiddling about but if it worked before the upgrade it should work after.

      • Yeah did this couple of times, still connection error. I might try and reset it and do it from scratch.

      • where do you get the firmware from ? My is Rav4 2023 and it was also failed with session (or connection) error.

        • I tried doing firmware update from iPhone but it (iPhone) never connects to its wifi as there is no internet

    • Did you make it work by any chance? I'm having trouble with Kluger too. It says, session failed - unable to start.

      • Nope, no luck here. I did a full reset, uploaded latest firmware again, the same crap result. Session failed.
Not happy here. Dunno what else to try.
Interesting thing is that, when I uploaded latest firmware for the first time, it worked once. So it is possible.

        • Same, after multiple attempts, when I tried to click enable AA within the settings, it sometimes connects but not with this device BT but with phones BT. Something isnt right. I can see that BT disconnects connects in a loop mode when its doesnt work. Couldn't find any workaround.

      • So I tinkered a little more. I went into bt device mgmt in my rav4 console. This device is listed as vehiconn_fXXX. In addition, sometimes I can see device1. I connected car bt to this device1 and then phones android auto connected automatically. From this point it all worked fine, ie waze, spotify etc.
I replicated this twice already on 2 different occasions.
Tricky part is that this device1 isn't always available.
        I don’t quite understand this.

        • What model is your RAV4? I did like what you described and after several attempts, it managed got AA to connected. But as soon as I entered the address on the map, it freezed and dropped the connection. Tried few more times but still failed to have a stable connection. I think all of these kinds of devices got blocked in modern Toyota cars. I may try with a Mazda later.

          • @timhn: Working fine with my 2023 Mazda 3….

          • @timhn: My rav4 is late 2024 cruiser. September.
2 months later they released wireless android auto :(
I'm hoping Toyota will offer it as OTA update soon.

  • Any Toyota owners successfully connected with Android Auto? I'm facing issues like jackwilk, its failing to start with Kluger. I tried with new firmware, factory reset, reboot. But nothing worked so far.

    • is your kluger '23 and newer? If so it might have the same issues as the '23 corollas that @npnp mentioned here

      • Thanks for the reference. Ya, mine is 24. So could be affected

  • In case this helps, this connected well with Mitsubishi 2022 android auto. And also, not sure if this makes any difference, but the actual product is Mini SE, but they do have a additional sticker on top of the package to say MINI5B-pro.

  • This is trash, anyone looking at this in the future, avoid.

  • Mine arrived. Hooked up to a Kenwood head unit, linked up straight away. It stuttered a bit on the music at first, so turned the car off and back on again. Seemed better but then stuttered again.. restarted my phone - perfect now. So might have just been doing some set up in the background and I was impatient.

Has anyone been able to get into the settings for this device? Manual says go to 192.168.50.100 but it just sits there and never loads. Doing this while connected and it all working fine.

    • try turn off mobile data (despite what the manual says), reenable once connected to perform fw updates

      • Yeah tried that as well. Will keep playing and report back if i find a way to do it. or might try forgetting device and starting again.

    • ok, was to do with the way Android connected to the wifi the device puts out. Connected to the wifi of the device before bluetooth pairing, passcode is 12345678. Android detects that it doesn't have internet through that connection so asks you if you still want to connect. Say Always connect.

Then I paired and it all worked fine, including being able to access the settings page. Updated the firmware and now all good again.

Hope this helps someone else having the same issue. This was on a Samsung S24.

  • Received mine.
Used it on Hyundai Santa Fe 2020, and S25 Ultra.
Didn't encounter any issues, worked as advertised.
Been using it for about a week, for navigation via Google Maps and handling phone calls.
Map and car position updates in realtime (no delay like other products).
    Happy so far.

  • Ordered this and somehow the price worked out to $7.07 AUD? Not sure if I did something wrong

    • are you a new customer on aliexpress?

      • Yeah I believe was my first time using.

After reading some of the comments on this thread seems the USB doesn't work with newer model Toyota :/
