Interesting the price of a base MacBook Pro cover is same as the highest spec one. Even though the price can more than double. I don’t think it’s worth it for a base MBP

    • Just wondering. Are many people buying Apple Care+ for peace of mind? I have never invested in Apple Care+ before and do not know if it is worth spending extra dollars on it.

  • how do you actually purchase this at the discounted price online? or is it in store only?

20% off AppleCare+ for Eligible Macs/iPads Purchased via Back to Uni Higher Education Offer @ Apple Retail Stores

      • In store only? What is this 2010?

      • Visting a physical store to purchase an electronic licence is peak boomer though.

        • …and when you get to the store you can't actually buy it either, you have to send a handwritten letter to Apple HQ in Sydney requesting AppleCare. But you can only send the letter at the store.

But seriously, how does this work for people who don't live near an Apple Store and had their new product delivered? Some people don't have a store in their town/city.

            @lunchbox99: wtf? really?

            • -2

@derdew: no not really. lfmao you think they make you write a handwritten letter in the store. haha!

    • In store only. At an official apple store only as well (not a licensed reseller) according to online/phone sale support.

No, they cant make any allowence even if you're 4+ hours away from a physical apple store.

No, they cant offer any discounts or anything else.

"You should have bought it when you bought the device" ignorning that in Australia you can't do that as the device comes with 10 days apple care included and you can't get new cover until that expires.

  • I suppose need to show student cards when purchasing this at retail stores?
So those without student cards who purchased on the edu store wont be eligible?

    • no, i wasn't asked:

Good deal for it but AppleCare is a waste of money IMO if you at all look after your tech gear. Only if prone to accidents worth it.

One major bummer is it’s only valid in Australia so you can’t even use it to get cheaper travel insurance.

Please note that if you seek service under this Plan for ADH in a country other than Australia, the service fee or local equivalent fee may need to be paid in that country’s currency and at that country’s applicable rate.

Apple may restrict Hardware Service and ADH Service to the country where the Covered Equipment was originally purchased.

EDIT: looks like this has been changed since I checked it out. I think it now does cover international theft I was wrong sorry. I still don’t think it’s really worth it price wise https://support.apple.com/en-au/iphone/theft-loss-claims

        Wrong previous info below:

If you ‘seek service for’ in another country. If the device is stolen or damaged in another country it isn’t covered.

Obviously Apple can check where it was lost.

Maybe this has changed since when I checked (2 yrs ago) but when I bought it was crystal clear the theft protection only applies in Aus.

Mostly yes. I took it on my $4k iPad Pro as travel regularly with it and wanted the accidental damage protection. It also covers pencil and Magic Keyboard.

      • Yep for super expensive items I can see it being worth it now. I’m quite sure when I was looking at it 2+ years ago international theft wasn’t covered but at least now it seems to be so could be worth it

        • +1

Yep I think it now is. Replacement screen on iPad pros runs to about $1k I think so I decided the peace of mind was worth it. Sod’s Law I will smash mine on day 731!

          • @digitalane: Yeah fair. When I was buying it was 339 for a 1700 iPhone which I didn’t think was worth it and so far I haven’t damaged the phone so worth the risk (I use a bulky case). More fragile expensive stuff I think I’d buy the cover now though like you did

            • +1

@Deals For Days: Agree. It cost me $279 for about $4.5k worth of kit (1TB iPad Pro, Magic Keyboard and Pencil Pro). For that it seemed a no brainer

            • +2

@Deals For Days: But the MBP I just bought for almost half the price would cost $449 for AC+! (Which echo’s my original comment about weirdness if same price for base spec vs top spec)

              • +1

@digitalane: Yeah that pricing is bizarre. Shame it isn't just based on device cost becuase from consumer POV the numbers are odd

              • @digitalane: I think the educational price of AC+ is around $300 (or maybe $360)

                • @Geoff-bargain: Yeah 359. But then I assume the iPad edu would be $223 and the device was twice as expensive

  • For AirPods .. does this cover loss of a bud?

    • no, accidental damage not loss - for latter, need contents or purchase protection insurance

  • What if you buy your laptop from the Apple AOC store will it still apply

    • No it doesn’t. Only from Edu store during the back to school offer time frame.

  • Any exp on paying with Apple Gift card? Does store let you pay using preloaded account balance on Apple account?

    • A few weeks ago, I paid for a repair in-store using my Apple Account Balance.

Unsure whether you can pay for AppleCare+ with the Apple Account Balance.

    • You can’t anymore. Used to be able to no problem

    • i did, possibly yes

  • I bought my Macbook Air back to late December. I assume that there is no chance of getting apple care+ in my case as the device was purchased over 30 days ago. Thanks

    • +1

At the expiry of the complimentary AppleCare+ and within 60 days of the eligible product purchase date, AppleCare+ can be purchased at the rate that is available at that time.

  • accc covers you for 3 years no need for apple care

  • Too bad I just paid my Applecare+ for my new ipad air 2 days ago!
