A new record low price on the Ryzen 7700 CPU that beats the previous deal by a good amount. It's very good value at this price especially when you consider that it costs around A$479 locally with a cooler. I recommend stacking with Topcashback's 10% cashback for further savings.

This one offers 8 cores, 16 threads, base clock of 3.8GHz, boost clock of 5.3GHz and uses the AM5 socket. Good for gaming and multi core workloads.

  • Thanks for the post, purchased!

I purchased earlier today :) If anyone has any motherboard recommendations please feel free to post (I'm currently 20+ tabs deep in research so I will update once I know more :P)

      MSI PRO B650m-a

      • I have this, very good board, only issue is the lengthy startup time

    • Please do update.

    • Could you tell me what I should be looking for when buying a motherboard? It has been the most confusing part of my build (im serious)

      • +2

Make sure it's the right socket for your chip and it's the right form factor for your case. Hopefully you know those. The rest is down to quality and features you want to pay for. I would choose RAM after selecting motherboard (to review compatibility).

        • Yep I will definitely do that. This isn't my first PC but the last one I built was In 2017 so I'm completely lost when choosing the hardware it's self. Everything was more simple back then lol. I picked my parts within a week but it's taken months and waiting years for a good time to buy. Unfortunately my PC is too slow and I literally just have to make something now. I can't wait. Thanks for the comment

As the other person already said, once you've picked out the right chipset and form factor, it's down to motherboard quality and features.

I highly suggest not skimping on the motherboard if you're planning on using a higher-end chip that uses more power, as the VRMs for CPU power delivery on cheap motherboards can be pretty underpowered and overheat, throttling the CPU as a result. For a (default) 65W TDP chip like this Ryzen 7 7700, I wouldn't worry too much, but as long as you don't pick from the bottom of the barrel, most B650 boards seem to be okay.

Additionally, DDR5 6000 CL30 is the sweet-spot for these chips, and you should be able to run it with no problems. Anything higher, and it's not a guarantee.
4 sticks of RAM at once often does not run very well at these speeds, and you'll have to downclock. Found this one out the hard way. FWIW, I'm using an Asus Strix B650E-F but yeah stick to two dimms.

I recommend taking a look at Hardware Unboxed's videos on B650 buying guide/B650 motherboard tests.

Here's a masterlist for AM5 Motherboards Sheet where you can see the nitty gritty of every motherboard model along with their rear I/O layouts. It is rather technical but I'll still leave it here for reference in case anyone else may find it useful.

        • Well I'm hoping that the next gen of amd cpus are using am5 because most likely im going to ether buy a used or discounted 9800x3d or 10800x3d or whatever comes out next for the gaming cpu. This is mostly because I didn't buy a super high end GPU now and want to wait for the next gen Nvidia to spend big on one. even at MSRP the 50 series disappointed me. I was hoping for 6000 ram and that's why I'm getting am5 also I will only get 32gb so 2 sticks are fine. I have seen talk about vrms and the hardware unboxed video but was worried it's outdated because they haven't done a new video in a while but I'm guessing they don't really make new board often so its probably still fine.

      • Bruh. Can't stress this enough. Do not start building a pc without spending time on pc parts picker

Purchase this about 2 years ago for about $480. Has all the gen 5 stuff for future proof. It wasn't my 1st choice but when I saw that video card release button I knew I had to get it.

      Go watch hardware unbox
      https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtHOOyWYiic

      • I did see this but do these guides get outdated quickly? It is a year old. I'm honestly asking as I haven't done much research into motherboards because it was the hardest thing I had to research.

        • I believe the only upgrade for 9000 series cpu, was just usb 4 and nothing else. Everything else was left unchanged.

          • @Furi8: But usb 4 is such an important port especially if keeping the pc for the next 7-10 years. So b850 mb’s would be worth the spend?

            • +1

@Dollar Dreamer: Only if you need it for something unique like 2nd/3rd portable monitor. But for a gaming pc and backing up the phone, usb 3 gen 2x2 good enough for me.

    • I posted a comment on a different AM5 deal, but nothing has changed: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16309827/redir
I still think B650 is the chipset to get. The 800 series only mandates USB4 and out of the box support for Ryzen 9000 but the prices are jacked up too much to be worth it most of the time.

Currently MSI PRO B650m-a(WIFI) $188 is the best in terms of value to performance/features. But 2 months ago when MSI B650M GAMING PLUS WIFI was $193 it was the better buy. (now $219).

    • MSI MAG B650M GAMING PLUS WIFI

    • MSI PRO B650-S WiFi ATX.

Im using it with it for quite some time now. All good

  • +1

Is this the current best value am5 CPU for gaming? I was looking to buy the 9800x3d but because I'm a true ozbargainer I can't buy it at 200 over MSRP. It also looks like they aren't that far off in performance I'm just worrying about missing the 3d vcache.

    • yes this the best value am5 at the moment. the 9800x3d has 3x the amount of vache, which will help more dependant on your gpu. if you have an older gpu this 7700 will do fine.

      • I'm getting the 9070 xt so what do you think of that? I will be upgrading when the next Nvidia and zen 6 comes out but hoping to keep the Mobo, ram and CPU from now. Need something to get me over to the next gen.

        • +2

You can't go wrong with a 7700 and 9070XT. It's a good combination for gaming.

    • The 9800x3d is only $100 over MSRP. After these new x3d CPUs are released tomorrow. The price should go down again as the market will have more options.

      • Wait wtf. It was $950+ yesterday.

    • The 7500F that I bought about 5 months ago had a cashback offer + aliexpress coupons came down to $160ish and the performance is not much different. The X3D chips are where it's at.

  • Any AM4 compatible CPUs on special anywhere?

MSI Pro B650M-A WiFi - The best of the cheapest boards, i recommend this board to everyone looking for bang for buck. yet to see a better value board

    • Do you know how the A variant diffes to the P variant? For example, I see MSI PRO B650M-P on pcpartpicker.

And how does the MSI boards compare to the Gigabyte B650M GAMING PLUS WIFI board that can be had for $20 more?

      • The A variant has a better VRM heatsinks than both the P variant and the Gaming Plus wifi.

    • How do you think it compares to Gigabyte B650M Gaming WIFI AM5 both priced very similar?

      https://www.centrecom.com.au/gigabyte-b650m-gaming-wifi-am5-…

  • ASRock B650 boards like the Steel Legend and Riptide (B650E) would be a great pairing.

EDIT: Don't exist at a reasonable price anymore

  • That's a great price, got one. Thanks OP

Personally… I spent another $15 more or so to buy it off here..
    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005179032217.html?pdp_np…

Business has been around for 8 years.. have bought plenty of CPUs from them..

versus <6 months.. for this crowd..

  • What are the options for a decent well priced DDR5 out there?

    • +1

Asus TUF am5 b650e umart $209 or Gigabyte Eagle AX $269 (this one is full atx)

  • what does everyone think of the msi-b850-p-wifi-am5-ddr5-atx-motherboard

seems to bbe around 320, so not a huge increase over some of the better b650 boards… hmmm

    • +2

Not much point paying extra for the b850 chipset. just go with b650 for basically the same performance. The MSI B650m Pro-A is currently 188aud

  • Been eyeing the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X but is this cpu better?

I think the cheapest the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X was around $280.

    Thanks!

    • +2

      7700 is better

      • Thank-you

    • +2

It's a better CPU in general, and in games you'll see a few % improvement, nothing dramatic.

You get more cores though and for the price it's a no brainer if you were tossing up between the two.

      • Thanks just what I needed

  • code AUMR33 not working at checkout?

    • What does it say

      • For security reasons your request can't currently be processed

        • Made any orders before?

          • @Clear: no, just signed up to aliexpress today, maybe new accounts cant use that code

            • @Lazer84: Yeah I'm fairly certain new accounts with no orders can't use codes. I've messaged Ali to clarify the error.

  • Will it come with monster hunter?

  • Just bought one! Got it for $254 after taxes and the discount code. I just bought the 7600x which I'll now have to return. Thanks for the deal anyways OP!
