Dyson Omni-Glide Cordless Vacuum Cleaner (Purple/Nickel) $299 Delivered / in-Store / C&C @ MYER

440

Our Dyson V6 is on its last legs, and we’ve replaced the battery a couple of times in the past seven years. It’s been a great gadget, except for the battery. So, I’m in the market for a new stick vacuum, and I found this one on sale at Myers. It’s usually $749, but right now it’s only $299. I’m not sure if $799 is the real price, though. Some other retailers like BiG W are selling it for $579.99.

https://www.dyson.com.au/dyson-omni-glide-394440-While some individuals may consider Dyson products to be overpriced, our personal experience has been quite positive. The vacuum cleaner has proven to be a good gadget and had served its purpose , requiring only two battery replacements (aftermarket) over its lifespan.

people might not like being lectured about budgeting on a website for intended for sharing things on sale

            @PainToad: it's a joke, mate

@PainToad: 1 - ‘being savy and buying what you want/need’ - how do you know what people want or need?

2 - ‘Being a toddler’ - just who is it that has thrown their toys out of the cot here?

3 - ‘enjoy your crappy vacuum’ - exactly right.

how do you know what people want or need?

If they're not taking time to think about their purchase, they don't know if they actually want it or not.

    Dyson and Amazon have price-matched

20 mins battery life in eco mode without a motorised head … am i reading that right?

    • +2

yeah, BS marketing. no one is going to be using this in eco and especially without the power head.

rtings review (https://www.rtings.com/vacuum/reviews/dyson/omni-glide) says in MAX mode using the power head, it lasts 9 minutes.

however, its MAX mode suction is probably significantly less than other dyson units (according to dyson its 50 AW compared to gen5detect at 280AW)

It's built for hard floor though. Pls check the product description. If you have carpet, you probably need to get something else.

    • +1

The reviews suggest it's good for rugs and low pile carpet

  • +2

Have had one for several years. Love it, use it daily. Great in our caravan too. We got the free dock too, handy for storing and charging.
Great for hard floors (wood/tile). Not for carpet use.
Need to keep gap between rollers and cover clean or rollers stop rotating.
Amazing how much dust and crap they can still pick up on a clean looking floor.

  • +1

They're not great. the handle is very unergonomic. Mostly for hard floors too. It's more suited to a small apartment or studio with hard floors.

  • +2

It seems the handle is not ergonomically friendly

    These are junk

3-pack of 4ah ozito batteries and an adapter will give you another 7 years on that old dyson mate.

    • +1

That is exactly what I did, now can vacuum the whole house in High Power mode in my old V6

    • Link please. I got a V8 in the Black Friday sale so battery should be alright for some time. But I've heard about this Ozito as a replacement, so I'd like to have a look. TIA

  • Hmm, odd handle design.
I was looking at this one last night.

    • I have also been looking at that one, I'd love to hear from anyone who owns it already!

Being the slimmest Dyson vacuum, the Dyson Omni-glide™ has a smaller wand and release button, so only the Dyson Omni-glide™ accessories can be used. All other accessories from other full-sized cordless or corded vacuum will not be compatible.

  • This or the V7 for $339 from Good Guys with Price Beat button?

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/dyson-v7-advanced-origin-cord…

  • It’s been a great gadget, except for the battery.

Don’t let a dead battery make you replace your Dyson! Instead, grab some affordable Ozito batteries from Bunnings and an Ozito 18V Dyson adapter from Amazon. Just like that, you’ve got an upgraded Dyson V6 at a fraction of the cost. I recently revived my V7 this way, and it’s working better than ever!

Samsung Jet 65 Pet Stick Vacuum is currently $299 atm as well (with discount code: SECRET3). Original RRP was $449.

Seems like a better deal compared to this Dyson model as it's got more power (150W Samsung vs 50W Dyson) & longer runtime (upto 40min eco Samsung vs 20min eco Dyson)

Ordered via Dyson direct to include the dock, thanks OP for the heads up on the bargain though!

For $299 its worth a risk - 45 day return policy. Wanted to suss out how this goes to replace sweeping at the end of the day around kids mess.

I have a V6 as well and was over the battery replacements years ago. My neighbour showed me the adapters you can get for power tool batteries. I have heaps of DeWalt tools and adapters exist for the other major brands. Never had battery drama since and it runs for long long time on 4 or 5ah DeWalt batteries plus I have heaps of them! :)

    • I was thinking the same thing. The adapter is a lot cheaper than a new Dyson battery or new vacuum.

Undoubtedly overrated but if you want one, this is a good price relative to their usual RRP

  • How does this compare to the $1400 Dyson V11 Ultra Max ?

    • +4

      $1101 cheaper

    • cheaper to get a frontal lobotomy, paying that much for a vacuum cleaner

  • +1

this is deeply mid as a vacuum. the dustbin is tiny and it lasts under 10mins in realistic conditions. it’s also not compatible with other Dyson attachments. you’d be better off getting a v7 or v8 on a deal (if you wanted to stick to dyson)

    • Agree if it’s the main vacuum. If you are using this as a quick and light use to clean something specific (and not a whole house), it’s good for that use. And I guess with the size and battery, it’s intended to be used as such and not to replace the main vacuum. Getting it on RRP does not make much sense but for 299 with standing dock included, it’s a good price.

  • I have a V11 outsize which I use as a main vacuum. The little Omniglide would be very limited, maybe a quick run round the kitchen and under the dining table after meals
