  are these proper lava lamps with the wax that melts etc in them or are they the stupid glitter ones ive seen there last time i looked (a year or 3 ago)? been after another one since dropping and breaking my old one years ago

    yep i can now confirm these are proper wax type lava lamp awesomeness :) cheers OP. now just need some LSD and im right back in the 70's hehe (before anyone says is, that was a joke people, i wont actually be doing any LSD)

    my local also had a smiley face neon lamp/light for $6 which i grabbed, instantly and simultaneously sending me back to the 90's as well :D

        my local kmart is only just around the corner and i was lucky enough to score a park just outside the doors. quick run in and grab em and run back out again before getting mobbed. all good :D

  Not a bad deal for $6. These take quite a while to work but the lava magic is pure awesomeness!

    laid down in the kitchen sink under some hot water takes it from about an hour to start up to 10-20 mins usually :)

    **obviously only the glass bit, not the actual light fitting before anyone tries something stupid and blames me for it…. **

  I wanted (and got) one of the original Mathmos lava lamps about 15 years ago.. when i was 15 har..

  Anywho I was most disappointed to find you can't leave them on 24/7 - which I thought was the point of them (always on). And once they start overheating you get awful air bubbles.

  Interesting side note - the lamps have been studied/scanned for random number generation.

    ahh now they look awesome, tho for $99 on there aus site they would want to be. will have to keep a look out now to see if they are ever on sale :D
