6% Upsized Cashback on Shell eGift Cards @ ShopBack

140

ShopBack has a gift card "frenzy" ongoing; the one that caught my eye was 6% cashback on Shell eGift Cards - always useful to stock up on these. 10% cashback on Uber Eats gift cards as well as other gift cards that I don't use.

Shell eGift Cards are digital prepaid Visa gift cards that can only be redeemed at participating Shell-branded service stations, including all Shell Coles Express and Shell Reddy Express service stations.

Find a Shell eGift Card accepting service station near you using the Shell fuel finder and applying the Gift Cards - eGift Card filter (or looking for service stations with this listed under the Services & Amenities section).

There seem to be an issue with the Shell eGift cards from ShopBack. Not sure if it has been resolved now.

    • This is interesting. I always thought once it is loaded onto your wallet, effectively the GC works. But now looks like we need to do another check (whether activated). Luckily for me the cards that I bought are all activated

Haven't bought recently and hope there are no issues. I didn't post this offer when I saw the forum post. You may remember there were issues from my last post.

The attractiveness of the Shell card is that you can exchange it for Coles Myer vouchers

      • When you say "Exchange", is it an online exchange or do I have to buy a Coles/Myer gift card at the servo?

        • +2

In person purchase at the servo

        • Can I buy gift card at Coles supermarket by using shell egiftcards ? Thanks

            @Cf2024: No.

Shell eGift Cards can only be redeemed at participating Shell service stations. When you attempt to use this gift card at an EFTPOS terminal, Blackhawk Network - the issuer of this gift card - checks information reported by the EFTPOS terminal and compares this against information for EFTPOS terminals known to be used at participating Shell service stations. If the reported information does not match a known EFTPOS terminal, Blackhawk Network will decline the transaction. For example, transactions at United Petroleum service stations will be declined, because Blackhawk Network will not recognise the information from these EFTPOS terminals (even though United Petroleum also operates service stations).

      • Do you know if these still work with the new EPOS tills

        • The card itself works in the new EPOS, but unsure if you can exchange for other Gift cards

  • Any fees to buy with credit card?

    • no

  • Does this works at shell OTR locations too?

    • The Shell fuel finder says:

      • Nearly all Shell OTR service stations across Australia accept Shell eGift Cards, but there are a handful of exceptions (e.g. Shell OTR Broken Hill South).

      • All service stations in SA with OTR branding (including BP OTR) accept Shell eGift Cards.

Just a FYI as I found the above discussion a little confusing.

My local Shell/Reddy Express had a new POS system, but accepted 3x Shell GCs to exchange for the Coles Myer group card no problem.

    • Great to know!

    • Yep most Reddy Express locations have the new POS now, came in late last year in my area.

  • I was told yesterday (18 Feb) at two Reddy Express locations their gift cards were 'not working' (I assume some kind of system outage). Anyone had any luck today?

On another note, has anyone tried buying an open loop prepaid card using a Shell gift card? I see Reddy Express sells them and with the new POS, Shell cards show up as Visa Credit (not Prepaid) on the receipt.
