Mazda CX-5 Diesel Acadia with Check Engine Light and Oil Leak underneath

I have Mazda CX-5 diesel Acadia, I am having trouble with engine light coming on and oil leakage underneath.

Any solution. I have been to so many mechanics in town. No luck. Is there anyone have a solution.

Been to a Mazda dealer workshop?

Go to a Mazda dealer and have them so an OBD scan to diagnose the warning light.
That aside, difficult to accept that "so many mechanics" cannot find the source of the oil leak.

Find a proper mechanic. What is the Acadia? Is that a trim level?

    • +4

There was a Holden Acadia between 2018-2020, but I've never heard of anything Mazda or CX-5 with that name.

    • +3

It's was a Holden, wasn't it? Which may explain why mechanics are having trouble with it, if they're told it's a Mazda.

    • i assume they mean astina

      • +1

That's a Mazda 3 trim level. See post below - it's meant to be Akera

        • No, Akera is a Japanese cartoon about a boy on a red bike. I think it's meant to be Ashoka. :)

the trim level would be Akera

Step 1: Actually learn what car you have

  • if it's leaking oil, it's got oil

    • Thanks Einstein ⁉️

    • Until it leaks so much that there's no oil left.

    • Oil Level OK!

  • Engine light and oil leakage underneath. Any solution. I have been to so many mechanics in town. No luck.

    What car brand?
    What model?
    How many KM?
    What did the mechanics said?

and .. are you there? lol

Have you had your brakes fixed lately?

    • +2

      Friggin gold. Lol.

      • +5

Was in the service bay next to a Camry, and was infected also!

    • +1

That's what started this whole fracas. Got their brakes done and ever since it started leaking oil and the engine light came on…

      • +1

Replace the alternator and battery, oil leak will stop.

        • +2

Yeah, but that costs money… and when that happens, the nut behind the steering wheel starts squealing.

Mazda Diesel 2012-2017 are dud engines, lot of complaints online, search around. The solution is to make mazda accountable and get a new engine

    • +1

If only it actually worked like that in Australia.

    • I cut and pasted 'Mazda CX-5 Diesel' into google.

The first suggestion was 'mazda cx-5 diesel engine replacement cost australia' lol

Once you search it for it, this was the 3rd hit- https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/357344

      Sounds like a dud.

    • Mine 2013 was a total lemon, one thing after another. Worst engine I have ever owned.

you're taking it to the wrong mechanics if they can't diagnose it.

I also strongly disbelieve you took it to "so many" and there's been "no luck". I'm guessing they told you it would cost $x to diagnose and you said no and are looking for us to magically solve it online.

reckon OP has tried "so many" as in other forums for a magic solution or good will to offfer to fix it for free.

Cx-5 diesels are garbage. I bought one that wouldn't start, no fuel pressure. One of the injector tips had come loose after Mazda had done a recall of some sort on it.

These things have way too much going on, low compression, twin turbo, variable valve lift with weird EGR/warm up function, people that can't replace injector seals correctly, when injector seals leak they leak combustion goodies into the valve cover and oiling system, then you've got the oil dilution from their crappy implementation of a dpf.

What are they saying the issue is or at least thought the issue was?

  • There is no chance a forum member can diagnose with what youve described. Its like you went to the doctor and said 'im a bit sick' and sat back and wait for the doctor to work out what's wrong.

Far too general. Take it to a mechanic.

  • Penny's solution in Big Bang Theory was to cover the warming light with a sticker.

Car kept going for ages after she did that.

Buy an OBD scanner and see what you can find also google to see what you can find.

    • I think they did Google it. Found ozbargain. Joined. Posted. Ghosted.

      • Usual OP newbie with no ability to search.

  • Mazda cx-5 diesel engine known to have some problems. More so when i brought my 2014 cx-5 to the dealer they check it and offered to do engine and the turbo replacement for free covered by mazda australia. the car didnt get serviced in mazda network in the last 5 years (serviced in mechanic though)

Experience might be different for you though.

Diesel engines in residential vehicles primarily used for short trips is fundamentally a stupid idea.

  • Mazda Diesel engines are notorious for early failure. 2 or 3 years ago, there was a group action in the Federal Court involving Mazda vehicles and particularly those with diesel engines. The failure rate at around 100,000 klms is astronomical and relates to the diesel particulate filter installed in the vehicle. Unless the diesel is being driven for lengthy periods each day, the particulate filter doesn't get hot enought to burn off the particulates. The work around is that the vehicle dumps excessive amounts of fuel into the motor to make it run hotter in order to burn out the particulates. The problem with this is that it dilutes the oil in the motor and causes catostrophic internal failures.

You need to take it to a Mazda dealer with a record of it being serviced on time (Hopefully they have been done on time), and have them investigate the issue. Mazda has regularly replaced motors in these diesel's, but only after a proper stouch between you and them and demanding that they do the right thing, The Federal Court found against Mazda and found they were at fault in rejecting claims for replacement or repair of vehicles.

    Good luck in you claim
