This model sold previously for $349, and has now been replaced by the Maxi-Rider AHR - Which is currently selling for $450 at most places online. Baby Bunting has this model marked down from $275 to $199 (obviously to clear way for the new model)

Safe N Sound are probably the most trusted brand of car seat, and they are the brand all local councils use, as well as all the car hire places I have been to. This seat is suitable for 6 months to 7 years so you will get a lot of life out of it.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this scores 2/5 on the CREP rating - http://www.crep.com.au/crep.php

The Maxi Rider AHR scores quite a bit higher and newer model for $319 at Baby Bunting.

    • It's $239 at Mothercare now. See my posted deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/89135

      • That really is a great price.

An 'above average' seat for an extra $40 over an 'average' seat - thats peoples own decision. My intention was let people know there is differentiation. Generally the more recent the model the better the safety rating - as far as Safe n Sound go.

2/5 is correct however misleading to say the AHR is 'substantially higher'. AHR got 3/5. Only two got 4/5, none 5/5. Most car seats get 1/5….

      • +1

It got a 50% higher rating. That's substantially higher.

        • It's not a linear rating scale…

  • This model ….. and has now been replaced by the Maxi-Rider AHR

I'm rather curious how you came to this conclusion. In my understanding AHR isn't a replacement, it's simply different.

    You're right though, it's a great price.

    • I read on a forum that this model was now obsolete (dated June 2012), when I did a google search I could only see most places selling the AHR, and lastly I saw there was the previous Maxi Rider 1, then the Maxi Rider 2, …. I presumed that they were replacing it with the Maxi Rider AHR.

Despite that I have no confirmation of that - all heresay and specualation. The AHR may indeed be just a different model.

      • Safe n Sound Active Heat Restraint (AHR) models seem to be at their premium end of their range, seems to be the same with other brands with some having air bags in the head padding and various gizmo's. I reckon all Safe n Sound seats are very good quality.

  • Price shows $275 for me. At $199 it was a steal, no bargain now though.

    • Marked expired. Glad I pushed the button and purchased last night.
