Dolphin and Atto 3 has the same motor of 150kW, but since Dolphin is lighter. It is more faster and nimble.

      • It has a 70kw motor, why are people posting complete lies in here, then down voting anyone who posts a fact from BYD? It’s bizarre like some vested interest thing.

  • How much for sealion7?

    • +2

Under 60k but not out until med February so no official pricing.

    • Will definitely be priced competitively to the Model Y

  • +1

walked into byd showroom and asked for a deal on seal performance but they denied and said that was the best price, now two weeks later this happens lol 😂

    • +9

BYD have fixed pricing. Non-negotiable. It's not a traditional dealer setup.

It's the same setup that all these brands follow.

      • Tesla
      • BYD
      • Polestar
      • Cupra
      • Zeekr
      • Mercedes
      • Honda
      • Genesis
      • Oh, so I can negotiate on an mg xpower?

        • You sure can.
Go to a dealer and discuss pricing.

          • @E5TOQUE: I was trying to buy a BYD and was advised about the non-negotiable pricing. Even the demo cars have a set pricing on depreciation ($500 off every month). Dealer then tried recommending me to a Chery, which they slashed around 8k off. Which made me just feel like the Chery was overpriced to begin with. Also putting me in a BYD then a Chery after made me feel like I'm in a knock-off, Temu version of a car.

walked into a coles supermarket and asked for a deal on whiskas cat food but they denied and said that was the best price, now two weeks later the cat food is on sale lol

There goes the bandaid covered grid. There'll be meter bypasses and transformers popping all over the suburbs ,lol.

    • +9

Suggest you look at the reviews better.

They are highly regarded in both European and Aussie reviews for lack of rattles, squeaks and build quality concerns.

ReDriven on YouTube (Aussie) buy used cars and review them. The BYD Atto 3 reviewed very highly as a used car too.

      • +6

These posts always bring out the most intelligent beings

      • +1

I bought a used BYD ATTO 3 a month ago, very impressed by the build quality and tbh pretty much everything else about the car. Performance is great, cabin comfort is great, the audio quality (speakers) are better than expected, the software etc. is pretty good. It's not super spacious in terms of luggage, but it's not meaningfully worse than my Honda HR-V which is a similar sized SUV. The only thing I would change is the suspension, which is a bit too floaty/bouncy for my liking, but I guess a suspension upgrade would add to the cost.

I've done two road trips in it, both around 200km each way and in both cases I got to my destination with >50% charge remaining. Didn't have trouble finding a fast charger in regional Vic and topped up in about 20 minutes. I wouldn't want to do a super long trip on a public holiday weekend and have to wait in line at a charger, but the number of times I've done that kind of trip in the last 5 years is… zero.

      1. Never made a car before

wtf? oh boy, which rock did you craw your self out of?

    • +2

A car brand decides to overnight build a few million cars? Sounds plausible /s

Last I checked building a car isn't rocket science, cars have been around for a LONG time. Speaking about Rocket Science, China built their own Space Station. Somehow a car must be more difficult.

I'm amazed at your level of logic and reasoning.

    • +4

What's wrong if made in China? Most of Tesla cars are made in China. Not to mention your underwear may also came from China.

BYD has a longer history (making car) than Tesla.

    • +4

i'm amazed by how confidently some folk speak about things they have no idea about

      • +2

        Dunning-Kruger

    • +1

My BYD Seal has amazing build quality, no squeaks, rattles, whisper quiet even with road noise.

My Skoda rattled and groaned constantly, so much so I sold it for the BYD, no regrets

  • -6

Better off to buy a Tesla as I've read they will soon appreciate in value.

    • +4

That article is from 6 years ago!

      • Quite fascinating the absurdity of that thought. But like any technology, if you hold on to your Tesla and keep it in its original packaging, it might one day become a collectors item

        • Maybe if you have an untouched tesla roadster

    • +1

Or, other car manufacturers become more efficient.

  • Any of these tow a caravan?

    • SL6 Premium is AWD and will tow 1300kg

      • wow that's impressive!

    • +5

      Shark 6 will tow 2500kg
They have more variants coming with more power later this year. Aiming to tow more.

  • +3

Good, more competition and lower priced cars is a good thing no?

If the other brands end up lowering their prices to remain viable, that is a good thing for us.

    • yeah more competition aginst themself.

  • +1

Why do we not have options for 7 seaters?

    • +8

      One child policy.

      • Ended long ago

Chinese carmakers are making luxury MPVs like zeekr 009

    • They are coming. Just wait.

  • +4

this will be cheaper then solar battery soon, might as well buy it to use as one

On average, a 10kW solar battery in Australia can cost anywhere from $10,000 to $20,000 - what a rip off!!!

    • -1

these are already a lot cheaper than a solar battery on a per kwh basis.
We just won't ever have V2G available to use them as one (despite what our useless government say).

      • +1

        Why not?

Some cars already support V2G and I imagine only more will in the future now that the policy is in place.

      • +2

V2G trials have been running here already with chargrs and cars going through certification. Would be shocked if we dont have it available sometime this year.

        • I think it will happen (as it should), but inside of 12 months is too optimistic. There will be further layers of regulation and compliance/safety testing for each bidirectional charger, each cable, each model of vehicle etc

          • @Save Medicare: 12 months is already a significant delay, it was scheduled for last year, now expected mid year. Trials have been successful and many certifications and safety testing has already been done. I am sure it will be a very limited set of options initially but I would still expect it this year.

            • @gromit: I guess the other thing will be if the car/battery companies will warrant their batteries for use in V2G/V2H, especially if it is "off-label". Of the extant EVs only really the NISSAN LEAF and CUPRA BORN and F150 LIGHTNING are advertised with V2G/V2H capability, but 3rd party bidirectional charger companies have successfully tested their technology with a variety of cars from other manufacturers. With all the data and metadata that the vehicle manufacturers can access these days, unless V2G/V2H use is expressly allowed by the manufacturer I would suspect that there may be a chance for it to void any battery life warranties

              • @Save Medicare: absolutely, however V2G/V2H is such a huge game changer that I would expect any that try to void warranties over it will find they are shunned in the market and suffer for it. What I suspect they might do however is adjust their warranties accordingly to account for the different usage patterns which is fair enough.

The real funny part will be all those Tesla Powerwall and other overpriced battery buyers that bought because "one day it will prove economical and then I will be in perfect position", instead they will be left with an overpriced legacy setup.

                • @gromit: I guess it depends on the battery chemistry, and the v2G wall charger electronics/software control systems, but there will be ways to minimise any potential battery 'damage' e.g. very short high current usage could still be drawn from the grid while your more consistent base load comes off your car battery.

        • shocked

I see what you did there. 😋

      • +1

We already have it you nong 😂

  • +2

    Another OzCargain deal

  • +1

Ah damn this is the 2025 price for MY24 Dolphin. The refresh doesn't hit til mid year

  • -6

I can reasonably believe that BYD will be the next Evergrande.
They will not profit from the EV market, as the US and EU both have high tariffs on their cars.
If their debts are mostly from Chinese banks, they will take down the whole banking system.

    • +5

BYD are investing in factories all over the world.

They are building a factory in Hungary to supply the EU market as we speak.

They recently opened another factory in Thailand

  • +1

I want to like BYD but boy those interior colour schemes are hideous

    • Some are a little… Unique for sure. But some a quite good.

  • -2

What bargain? This is the NEW RRP

  • +2

The Dolphin Premium is definitely the pick of the bunch out of these deals I reckon - if you can handle the looks.

Time for an MG4 price drop…

  • +8

All car prices are going to crash soon, they have gone up way too much over the last 5 years or so.

I purchased a Brand new Mazda 3 touring in 2017 for $24k, it now costs $41k brand new
I purchased a brand new VW Tiguan in 2018 for $28k, it now costs $48k brand new.

So in 5-6 years car prices have almost doubled whilst a cost of living crisis is happening, I don't think this is sustainable.

I watched this video that was quite interesting about the excess inventory in the US at the moment and how car prices are dropping:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0krhElD0_s

Lets see what happens with all cars over the next 2-3 years. There might be a large correction on prices.

    • Waiting for Mercedes and BMW to drop in pricing.

      • keep waiting

    • +1

so I should sell my sp23 2018 for 20k is what you are saying?

    • It's a difficult spot for people who need a new car now though. Agree that the landscape is going to change significantly, but if you need to buy now and youre buying to drive it into the ground then you might as well go for it. If you can hold off, i think wait until later the year

  • wouldn't u be hating life if you are a BYD owner seeing price keep plummeting? deflation is a thing.

    • +4

It’s depreciation of the asset. Pretty common for new cars.

    • +1

Wouldn't you be hating life if you are a insert generic legacy auto owner seeing price keep increasing, and when it comes to replace your car you would pay ALOT more?

I bought a RAV4 GXL AWD in 2021, RRP has now increased by $8,000 meanwhile my used car price has depreciated by $10,000 (no more of that magical Covid RAV4 price appreciation since Toyota has been dumping loads of them last year). I'm paying GIO Platinum cover so at least I can get New for Old replacement as long as I stick with them. But oh boy, good luck trying to replace them when the time comes.

  • +4

TL;DR Went into BYD dealership, instead of discounting they increased the price

I went into the BYD dealership on the weekend motivated by the $3000 discount + Free 7kw charger (~$1000). The dealer tried to convince me that the $3000 was not available as it was for floor stock only of which they had none. So it was regular RRP.

I showed that I could order through the website with the discount applied with the free charger but they were unmoved. Regardless, they pressed on and tried to apply tints, floor mats, interior & exterior protection. Were hoping I'd immediately buy and/or put down a $1000 deposit.

I responded that I'd wait for the next sale since I missed out and walked out. And as expected, a new deal arrives. Keep in mind this was two days ago, if they'd just accepted the $3000 + free charger they'd have actually made more profit than today. Unbelievable.

    • +16

      Never trust a car salesman.

      • +4

        Or any sales

    • I also had a similar experience advising that the $3000 was only available on existing stock.

    • Which location?

    • I still can't find the need of these 'sales/business' guys for new cars. The new gen folks research a lot and may be more knowledgeable than these sales fellas. They should also go with distributed service centres with tie-up with garages to accomodate the fast growth

(May be the car companies should have an online rep or agent who could go upto elderly people or less technical people and explain to them rather than having huge sales offices)

    • From my understanding their dealerships are like Tesla's, they have no ability or power to give you discounts beyond what the current offers and RRP are.

  • Not really across the full range though is it?

  • -6

BYD cash flow have issue. They have very high debts and facing low profit margins. Purchase with care.

    • +1

Isnt that all the car manufacturers? VW owes 357 billion

      • according to Fa Lun Gong publications on Youtube like China uncensored it's only happening to BYD.

        • I meant the german company VW owes tbe 357B

Toyota owes a bunch too but not as bad

Its kind of normal for car manufacturers to have debt as you have upfront tooling costs

    • +1

BYD only have about $7B in debt while having $13B in cash. If anything their debt is absolutely tiny for this sector. They also have a very healthy profit margin as of last quarter. Do you have some information that this has all changed over xmas new year?

  • +1

I'm quite sure BYD was cheaper yesterday with the 3000 off and free charger?

    • I went through a configuration yesterday and it’s cheaper today per OP’s post.

The savings OP illustrated is correct eg $5900 for Dolphin Premium that you’d have only received $3000 discount plus free charger previously.

    • Negative - I checked the Seal Performance yesterday.

      • +1

I checked Seal premium yesterday, its 1k more today without a charger as well, in WA

  • For Sealion 6 with $3000 off and free charger, what are the differences between that and 2025 model?

    • only thing is prob suspension has been configured better

      • Are the battery the same for Sealion Premium?

    • Sealion 6 is getting suspension makeover in Australia. Stock of that should be here soon

  • Wait for further cuts.

    • -1

No doubt… Byd isn't competing with tesla … They are competing with the other Chinese manufacturers

      • -1

I agree. BYD went after Tesla but the market decided. Even motor journos have stopped with the 'Tesla killer' titles now because it never eventuates.
I would buy BYD over any of the other Chinese EVs or ICE / Hybrids, including Volvo. Tesla is a step ahead in what they offer as a package.

  • +11

Fyi for anyone interested in real world range.
Last week we drove our seal premium from Wagga Wagga back home, 450km on the freeway without any charging on route. I was well impressed getting home with 38km left.
There was no hypermiling effort made, full car, aircon on etc. one of the most impressive things with this car is just how thermally efficient it seems compared to my others. Even on a hot day I had the aircon on low and the car was very comfortable.
EVs have come a long way.

    • +2

I guess the ICE causes a lot of heat for most cars

    • +7

Yes, much better to piss your money away on petrol for the Ranger

    • +9

Username checks out. You sound like a Ranger driver

    • They took the bait lol

  • +1

BYD are Great cars for the money and would have loved to see a BYD sealion 7 seater
I read about the 'Solar PV' producers (https://finance.yahoo.com/news/storm-brewing-chinas-solar-pa…) getting into OPEC style cartel so as not to contiue the brual price wars. Might happen same for EV companies; at which point the prices may stabilise. Until then, its wipe-out phase for legacy car makers.
