The latest version of Beelink's quiet EQ13 mini PC but with a refreshed processor. Reviews say the N150 is only a small performance increase from the N100 with a higher TDP (6 W vs 10W), but given the EQ14 with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage is on sale for $299.20 currently and the OzB ATL for the EQ13 with N100 CPU, 16GB RAM and only 500GB storage is $329 I think this is a great deal.

The EQ14 with 16GB RAM and 500GB storage is $10.20 cheaper but imho not worth saving 10 buckaroos.

The S12 Pro with N100, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD is $259 but I’d prefer the EQ14 since it’s known to run silently and has dual Ethernet. S12Pro: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0C1N5287T

The S13 Pro with N150, 16GB RAM, 1TB storage is also $299 but again I’d prefer the EQ14. S13Pro: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0DPQC6DRV

Some reviewers have had minor driver issues with Linux though, there's a pretty good breakdown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8MUCR0u_7A. TL;DR you may need to go onto non-LTS Ubuntu or beta for hardware acceleration on Proxmox

I’ve had a few over the years, gens 3/5/8 i5s, and currently a NUC 11 Essential with the N5105 (similar to N95 performance).

Gen 3 still going strong on parent duties, gen 5s sold to various friends and family, all still working. The gen 8 I did have to get replaced via warranty when it stopped powering on, and I sold the replacement.

Current 11 operates as my always on file/Plex server, it’s no powerhouse but it performs this task perfectly well.

I live right on the coast so electronics don’t tend to last as long for me, hence the build quality questions on the Beelink. The NUC boards always seemed well built and coated whenever I had them open.

we have NUCs at work, I have 2 different n100 mini PCs at home (Chuwi and Kamrui). I'm recommending when we get to our next hardware refresh we go with the n100 or maybe n300 mini pcs - they're a good third of the cost of the old NUCs. They have a 1 year warranty, if they die - at worst we replace it with a spare and it's still cheaper in the long run than buying the NUC (which aren't available any more, other than in name from ASUS).

These are more expansive then. If budget is high, consider Mac mini m4

      • If you can handle MacOS, I tried the M4 Mac Mini. It's a powerful unit, but it's not suitable for my needs.

        • +2

With the help of Docker, it doesn't matter if the host is macOS or a linux.

      • These are $400. The cheapest Mac Mini m4 is $1000.

  • Any thoughts on running esxi on this? I've got an existing pc sitting in the corner consuming unknown amounts of $$. But a vmotion is much faster and i would only run a single vm.

  • How would this go with pfsense? (Gigabit network, multiple Vlans, QoS/CoDel)

seems like a better deal - as it has 2x2.5 Gbps

      • Yeah looking at this, I'm a bit disappointed the Beelink doesn't come with a 2x2.5Gbps option.
Although do note your Trigkey does only have a N100 CPU and 500GB SSD at a higher price. (Although pricier because of the better networking)

If you're ONLY using this for PFSENSE, then if you're ok with the extra $$$$ this does seem like something to consider. You wouldn't notice the difference between N100 and N150 if you were just using PFSENSE. (Apart from power usage maaaaaybe)

        • +1
          • @r0nmac: Trigkey also runs DDR4 though

            • @IJustKnowStuff: OK. Also, something to consider TDP - 6W vs 10W

              • +1

@r0nmac: the 6W TDP is Intel marketing - that is how much heat the CPU may output, but it doesn't correlate to power draw from the wall - from memory both my n100 mini PCs draw between 15-25W when downloading / unpacking files. I'll need to dig out the power meter again for an accurate figure.

        • Get the BQ12, it has DDR5 and 2x2.5GB Intel ports.

I'm using a N100 as a daily driver. I have it on the performance profile to make it feel like a normal desktop. It drives a 4k screen and a 1080p side screen. I find it quite usable. Ask me anything.

    • I'm looking at a HP all in one with an N100 cpu, 8gb ram, would this be ok for day to day browsing and some youtube? Thats about all i do with a pc.

      • +1

Yeah I'd say so. I have 16gb which is more than enough for me. If you can get one with more RAM it will give you more head room (tabs?) otherwise if you only need a couple of apps or tabs at a time, it will be fine.

      • +1

if you're looking at the HP 24-cr0002a you could buy a 24" monitor, with an intel n100 based mini PC for almost half the price (depending on the monitor you choose). Most n100 mini pcs come with the mounting bracket so you can bolt them on the back of a standard monitor.

        eg:
        MSI PRO 24" FHD 100Hz Business Monitor MP245V $147
Beelink Alder Lake-N100 Processor (Up to 3.40GHz) Mini Computer, MINI-S12 Pro Mini PC, 16GB RAM 500GB SS $249

add in some $10-20 speakers, mouse and keyboard.

  • I'm using one of these (ancient quad core atom with 2gb ram) as a Nethsecurity box connected to a switch, connected to mesh units as access points around a property. Works a treat. I'd even argue that it's OP to this day.

Lots of good things you can do with these. I'd only ever buy second hand though, but that's just me.

  • My dad is currently using HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF

    • i5-4570 3.20 GHz
    • 24GB DDR3 / 1333Mhz
    • 500gb SATA SSD

He is saying it is very slow and does not perform well - however specs wise it shouldn't have any issues with browsing internet and watching youtube. Will this n150 or alternatively N100 miniPC provide noticeable performance? Happy to wait for a deal as I was originally looking at something like

BOSGAME P3 Mini PC (AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) $468 Delivered @ BOSGAME via Amazon AU

    • +1

if he's anything like my Dad, then a deep malware scan and system clean usually speeds up the pc (as he hasn't a clue about popups etc. and clicks on them all). Did you install the SATA SSD or is it still an older mechanical drive? Oh also it might need new thermal paste and is slowing down due to over heating?

      • It is SATA SSD but I think you're right in that a clean up might be good to speed it up, maybe even a clean windows install. However the last time I suggested it he was appalled at the thought of having to redo… his browser favourites which I said can be easily saved and backed up lol

        • fif he doesnt have a google account etc. to save his (chrome) bookmarks to, most browsers support exporting the bookmarks, saved passwords etc. to a file - export the data, copy the file to USB then re-install the PC and then import the saved file and should be back how he had it. Yeah I don't like doing that to my parent's pc either - I don't need to know what they've been browsing.

      • This. Should be no issues with that much RAM. Check the free disk space as it could be full and system paging can be a problem.

Take it it's win10, which if you can update to win11 as found its a lot snappier anyway even on older hw.

  • Why would you get this over the N97 deal posted recently? Brand?

  • Does this have hdmi? Would like to connect to my TV.

    • It has two HDMI ports.

      • +1

        Hey thank you!

  • Where's the 1TB edition? Can only find the 500gb eq14

    • Sold out now

  • I don't understand the dumb naming schemes they use. The BQ12 has DDR5 and 2x2.5GB LAN ports. No way I'd go the BQ13/14 over a BQ12.

    • By BQ12 I think you mean EQ12 - correct me if I'm wrong. I'm also looking for this one as it has DDR5 and thus futureproofed a bit better. But it's not on sale here. Do you know any stores that have EQ12 stock?

  • +2

Beelink EQi12 for $405 looks pretty damn good, ngl

    • Looks like no OS so would have to buy Windows 11 or install Linux!

      • +1

You should do that anyway - I would never trust whatever they bloat installed at manufacturer

        • Exactly. My BQ12 had Windows removed shortly after I unboxed it and I installed Debian-headless on it. I Tailscale into it and use Ansible to setup whatever docker containers I need on it.

      • Why would you use the preinstalled OS, lol. My BQ12 came with Windows - I got rid of it right away. Price on BQi went back up to $570, sadly.

  • I need to get something for working from home. Is it easy to install windows keeping in mind I am no expert with computers . Thanks

  • Can you have a single USB-C cable to this for power/video/data? Or is it just video.
