  • Ran out of room in the title but this is for Navy only - imho the best colour though

    • Thanks, this looks perfect for long road trips and beach trips etc. will probably pay for itself in not paying on the spot for drinks

      • +3

Depends if it will fit in your cupholders or door bottle holders.
I've found many of the double wall bottles to be a lot wider than average and thus don't fit in normal cupholders.

        • +1

Ive got the moss green 1.2L from last ozb post and can confirm it wont fit in standard cupholder in my car. The 700ml size also barely fits

        • +1

I have this exact bottle and can confirm it fits in nothing - usually have to keep it on my passenger seat or floor.

    • Green is the best

    • +3

Couldn't you have put that in the description then? Instead of filling it out with "Words words words etc."

  • +2

The moss green was $41 only recently!

    • 900 ml was 10 bucks

When did spending $50-$100 on a drink bottle become the norm?

Sure it's not insulated, but my $4 plastic bottle has been working fine for months.

    • -1

      $4 plastic bottle is so 2024 🤭

    • +2

It's the new emotional instability status symbol post covid

    • +1

Inflation they say… dont know how even normal people spend $50 on a bottle not to say ozb…

    • +2

      💯

I think manufacturers are taking the piss, capitalising on the seeming trend.

We still have 4-5 Klean Kanteen bottles we bought 10 years ago. Would have paid $15-20 max ea. Working great - dented and paint is scratched and chipped everywhere because the kids use them every day.

My sister in law spent heaps ($60+ ea?) on a couple of Frank Green bottles last year. Went on about how good they are but no better than anything else really.

You can get a 600ml one for $30 if you like this brand.

Sure, you might not want to spend $50+ on a bottle, but a insulated stainless steel bottle has advantages over a $4 plastic bottle. I like my water cold, and a handful of ice cubes will keep the water cold all day. There's research to indicate the plastic from bottles leeches into water, especially in a hot environment like a car. Plastic breaks down over time, which is why bottles of water have a use by date. Buy a cheapo Kmart SS insulated bottle if price is an issue.

        Insulated stainless steel bottle, 1.5 litres, $18 - https://www.bunnings.com.au/marquee-1-5l-white-insulated-dri…

I'll take one of these out with me on site, leaving another in a vehicle. Even after a long day sitting in a stinking hot car, the water in second bottle is still pretty cool. Those two bottles still cost less than one CamelBak bottle. Paying $50 is largely a marketing led image choice.

        • There are performance differences between brands (eg https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=a6j1NJkNzwI) but not on par with the pricing difference. I picked up a 1L SS Camelbak Chutemag for $24 from Coles, so there is decent pricing to be had.

    • +1

Insulated stainless steel will stay cool all day in a hot car.

Don't need to spend $50 on insulation, but to claim your $4 bottle is equivalent is laughable.

My 10c deposit plastic bottle has also been working fine for months

      • +1

I never claimed they were equivalent. Obviously an insulated bottle will keep the drink colder for longer. I just question the value proposition.

What activities are all these people seemingly doing where they are away from a water source or stuck in their hot car for entire days? I see people in the air conditioned office with these sitting on their desks, with a chilled water source only metres away.

And even if you do need one, as another poster mentioned they can be picked up for way cheaper from Kmart etc. It's clearly a fad and apparently brand name matters. You ain't cool unless you have a Frank Green/Yeti/Stanley.

        • What activities are all these people seemingly doing where they are away from a water source or stuck in their hot car for entire days?

You've never gotten in to a hot car, realised it's way too hot, so you open all doors and windows to air it out. Then you want to drink a sip of water, and found that the water in your plastic water bottle is still hot?

          • -1

@OZKap: The time it takes to cool down a hot car is nowhere near long enough to heat up my plastic water bottle.

Unless you mean I have left the bottle in the car during the day while it's hot? Yeah in that situation it's warm water, but that's an easy fix - just refill it. Not a problem I think needs $50+ spent on it.

            • @loksmack: It's nice for you that you always can park your car where there is easy access to water that is clean and drinkable.

Australia is a big place. Some people don't get to choose where they break down.

              • +2

@OZKap: Now its about breaking down?

As I said before - there are certainly use cases for some people to have these. Perhaps someone who works out of the vehicle, but I'm seeing office workers, students, retail staff…etc sporting these expensive bottles within their Air Conditioned buildings. It's very clearly a trend, as I don't recall insulated bottles (particularly branded ones) having any kind of market penetration a decade ago.

                • @loksmack: I've lived regionally most of my life, where even those air-conditioned office workers had 30-60 min commutes along quite dangerous roads. No mobile reception, so unless someone either saw you drive off the road, or you could walk back to the road it might be hours if not the next day before you were found. The people I grew up around were always prepared for the worst, and $50 is a small price to pay to always have cool water in the car.

I didn't mean to come off quite so aggressive earlier, sorry about that.

                  • +1

                    @OZKap: No dramas. Me too.

I’m one of those people. I live regionally on acreage down a dirt road with few neighbours. I commute a couple of times a week to an air conditioned office. It’s just never been an issue I’ve considered. If I’m in such a perilous situation, warm water is very low on my priority list.

                    • @loksmack: Yeah cold water is just a nice-to-have then. I travel a fair bit for work, often on my own, so I'm a little paranoid and I like to treat myself to nice things sometimes.

I've been fairly camelbak-loyal since I found a new-old-stock camelbak water bladder backpack for $15 at someone's garage sale. Everything still in it in terms of instruction material, and the mouthpiece still had the perforated tear-away intact.

ergoyne workwear is another alternative for the water-backpack side of things, not quite as nice, but still very durable

  • +1

CamelBak and Yeti… great products but waaaaaaaay overpriced for what they are.

    • yeti for sure, can only get a yeti lid for the price shown above

    • Waiting for the China copy brand "Camelfront." Or better yet, "Cameltoe" has a real ring to it.

  • It says that these can handle hot liquids but the cap on top is made from ‘Eastman Tritan Copolyester’(plastic)?

I would just get the sistema steel water bottle for $17 from woolworths instead. $50 is criminal.

    • +1

you will be surprised to see how much stanley tumbler is

      • I have seen people carrying them around but never had a clue. Damn.

    • +1

They're more to keep water cool, at least that's what I use them for.

Hot car in scorching sun all day but my water maintains its temperature.

Don't need to add any ice in the mornings, just refill with cool water when needed.

  • +1

I've got the 600ml version and it's by far my favourite bottle. Water stays cool all day.

The lids get funky though, so gotta make sure you clean it regularly.

  • Good bottle, Price a little higher than I'd be comfortable with. Keeps water cool all day long in a hot car. if you're working outside you can also just put this bottle wherever to have drinking water nearby. Doesn't matter if the sun shifts to shine directly on the bottle, the water will stay cool, but the steel exterior will heat up so I'd recommend a light-coloured one.

This one probably wont fit in most door card bottle holders, the diameter is too big, you'd have to measure it. Could put it under the seat or on the back seat but that's inconvenient.

I keep a 600ml insulated camelbak eddy+ in my door card because that's the biggest that will fit

  • These are great, yes the price is high, but worth it knowing the water inside is always cool.

If you are worried about cup holders, you can get adaptor holders, I got some from Amazon, or I see Anaconda sell some Dune ones, these go into your normal holder and then they are larger on top for bottles such as these. Just back from two weeks at Christmas and had some from Amazon that worked great. Saves it rolling around the floor etc.

  • +2

I got the kmart ones and on hiking hot days (last week or so) and leave it in the car and back in about 6-7 hours and it's still cold. Works well enough for me if you don't want overpriced

  • If you're spending that money go for a zojirushi

  • Does anyone know why this navy bottle won't ship to 2590 NSW but the other 2 colours will?

    • That's odd. Do you have Prime? If not, what are the shipping costs between the 3 colours?

  • +1

Yes I have Prime. I've since checked and found out that the black and green ones come from the US and have free delivery and the navy one from Australia won't ship to me. Doesn't make much sense to me.
